Antey Goes into Production
Joint Instrument Making Corporation (part of “Rostec”) starts the mass production of the next-generation complex “Antey”, which will provide transfer of data, telephone and telegraph information at a distance of up to 8 thousand km. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the corporation.
“Antey” is developed by our group “Sozvezdie”. These complex developments were absent in the domestic radio industry for about 30 years, the deputy director general of Joint Instrument Making Corporation Sergei Skokov said. – Last set of this class – “Poisk”, which is still in the inventory of the Russian Army, was released in the 80s of the last century.”
According to him, “Antey” seriously raises the possibilities of the field and stationary radio centers. “The system provides automatic and automated transmission of data, telephone and telegraph information over distances of up to 4 thousand kilometers (field radio center) and up to 8 thousand km (stationary radio centers), even in difficult noise conditions,” Skokov said.

Looks like the machine gun has been up-gunned to 12.7mm on the T-90MS.

dont see it- to me T-90 always had the distinct clamshell look. actually others merely followed, T-90 sported the look way back in 1993, merk 4 and leo 2a5 didnt have it until much later.
also, digging the new 12.7mm, some tradition shouldnt die, like at least a HMG for commander.

Re: Russian Ground Forces: News #2
Well it seems to have best of both doctrines. Longer penetrators, improved crew protection by keeping shells outside, stronger side hull and turret armor, but still keeping tank in reasonable weight and size limit. I think it's end of T-90 evolution. You can't really squeeze anything more out of it.flamming_python wrote:What have they DONE to that poor T-90!???

Glad to see up-gunned MG. It raised some question when we first seen 7,62 before.

So apparently Lobaev has came back to Russia from their pro-longed vacation in the UAE:
...It actually makes sense that they came back now, with the lowered value of the Rouble it should lower the labor costs of their impressive but unfortunately expensive rifles.

Today all is about real time information. In this you do weapons after what enemy has, you move your troops after what the intell says about enemy troops and movement, you counter things happen before they happen, you find everithing is new on weapon market. And many others. Its about tactics and strategic togheter.

Re: Russian Ground Forces: News #2
Gulf Tank (Google Translator)
A new edition of the T-90
T-90SM first demonstrated more than two years ago, and the media for a long time discussing its prospects. Today, they are partly clarified: in Abu Dhabi shows a modification of T-90SM specifically for the Gulf market. Questions by Lenta.ru. Replied Andrey Terlikov, chief designer and head of the Ural Transport Machine-Building Design Bureau, which is part of the corporation "Uralvagonzavod".
Andrey Leonidovich, it is reported that the tank is specially adapted to the conditions of the Persian Gulf. How exactly?
Andrew Terlikov: First of all, take into account the climatic conditions. We have greatly increased the engine cooling system - initially it is for the middle band, with average summer temperatures in the range of 25 degrees. Here it is to 50 degrees, and we have achieved that in these conditions the engine is running without loss of capacity.
The engine itself is old?
Yes, it V92S2 version "F", 1130 HP.
Installed the air conditioner?
Yes, air-conditioned jobs commander and gunner, in addition, upon request, air conditioning and set to the workplace of the driver. This option is absolutely necessary for local conditions - when the air temperature reaching 50 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can reach all 70.
How about the weapons?
As an essential element introduced sensor bending of the trunk. In the context of the European theater of operations it is not always required, except when shooting tempo for some time, but here it is absolutely necessary - when shooting in the heat of the barrel starts to "lead" very quickly, and if this deformation is not taken into account, shooting, especially in the Far distance, will be useless.
There was information about how to install a tank 120mm gun, unified with the American gun.
That's not true, do not know where it came from. The gun is standard - 125 mm, the installation of 120 mm guns require redesigning - American guns with manual loading the used unitary shot, we machine with split shot.
In this case, apply a new generation of ammunition, including high-explosive shells with remote detonation on the trajectory, which dramatically increases its effectiveness against infantry in fortifications. We showed the shell two years ago at the demonstration firings during the show RAE-2013, but it did not pay much attention. Perhaps because the breaks were quite far away, and the audience did not really understand exactly where the projectile explodes.
Auxiliary armament remained the same?
Yes I Am. The coaxial machine gun PKT 7.62 mm, it was equipped with a long ribbon, increasing the supply of ready-to-use cartridges to 400. In the anti-aircraft guns can be used as 7,62- and 12.7-mm machine gun.
Is it possible to substitute the foreign machine gun, if the customer wishes?
Theoretically yes, but in practice, our machine guns at anybody no complaints, and requests for their replacement we have encountered.
The tank is ready? If today, relatively speaking, will the customer, the construction of machines for a plant will start immediately?
Yes, the tank is ready. Now we can confidently say it. Two years ago, yet they could not.
T-90SM - is the export version of the machine. For the Russian Armed Forces designed T-90AM. What are its prospects? Or military expectations associated exclusively with the "Armata"?
T-90 has become in the last fifteen years the best-selling tank planets are in demand in the previous version. India, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Uganda, Turkmenistan, buy this car has already demonstrated its capabilities in hot climates. Specially adapted to local climatic conditions T-90SM, in addition sharply differs from its predecessors increased level of security and functional electronics, has every chance of development success. Talk about the potential buyers is too early, but their range as a whole is clear.
First of all, this country already using Soviet/Russian armored vehicles and in need of updating it. This could include Iraq, exploiting the T-72, Kuwait applying Yugoslav version of these tanks - M-84, Syria, finally, Iran, on the resumption of full cooperation with whom speak more often.
Egypt stands somewhat apart, having armed US M1A1, in addition collected at the site of the American car kits, but in terms of renewed military-technical cooperation between Russia and Egypt Egyptians acquisition of new tanks is very likely - especially given the fact that the current exchange rate "dropped" price T-90 below two million. The probability of buying a new version of the T-90 Gulf monarchies, whether Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, is assessed as lower, however, as the experience of cooperation with the same United Arab Emirates, nothing can be ruled out: already using Russian infantry fighting vehicles and air defense systems, they may be interested in and Russian tanks.

Have to carry ammo somewhere... having it inside the turret... whose front is so heavily protected because it is known that in combat it is the most commonly hit part of the tank is the choice made in the west, while having it deep down inside the tank where it will rarely get hit if at all is the Russian approach.
Either way a direct hit on the ammo will destroy the tank... blow out panels mean little when 40 propellent charges go off at once...

...Probably the closest thing to 'Boomerang' that we'll see in a while, seeing how it wont be featured May 9th due to technical difficulties.

That's nothing new, UAV specified it liked the BMP-3s firepower and wanted it on a new IFV.
They stuck the turret on the French VBCI too.

Re: Russian Ground Forces: News #2

No better than you could I suspect.
A single warhead HEAT in 125mm calibre from the left with a propellent charge next and an APFSDS round with a fairly old model single point of contact Sabot, and then a propellent charge followed by what is first a 125mm HE Frag round and then a 100mm HE round from the 2A80 rifled gun of the BMP-3.
Next is a charge for a 152mm round and then a 152mm HE FRAG round and then another propellent charge for a 152mm gun.
the big rounds in the background appear to be from left to right two 100mm shells and a 130mm shell of one piece design and therefore likely naval rounds....
I should also note, thats not Bahcha-U.
So it is likely a replacement for UAE BMP-3s, rather than a BMP-3 upgrade considering the BMP-3s already had more sophisticated turrets than this example...

First time I noticed this:
The truck (probably KAMAZ) carrying the SMERCH tubes has a fifth row of wheels. That fifth axle is probably not powered and is used only to help carry (spread) the load.
