When it comes to presenters you can have dry boring serious guys, or you can have entertaining idiots who are not experts on the subject and are learning along with us.

    A less violent Jeremy Clarkson.

From what I've seen he is clearly very patriotic and VERY enthusiastic and likes to propagate Russia's weapons capabilities and records, with a few fibs here and there, but overall it's a great show.

I know very little about cars, but found Top Gear to be very entertaining to watch when the three presenters were still doing it.

    Now not so much.

So no STOL requirements for Okhotnik, that means it will probably have really outstanding range and persistence to operate from air bases rather far from the front and the ability to stay on station for many hours, waiting to receive an assignment almost in real time and therefore be able to take on time critical targets. At probably 0.8 - 0.9 M max speed, it is not exactly slow at a tactical level either, so it will be much more effective against ground targets that classical strike / interdiction planes that have rather lengthy overheads related to getting mission parameters, taking off and moving into the right position to attack.

As the dimensions of the Okhotnik were shown the reporter mentioned that future drones under that program would be much larger. There are rumours that Russia is working on a strategic drone, big enough to carry Kh-101 cruise missiles.

Well that makes sense because they talk about unmanned versions of their new fighters all the time.... does that not suggest unmanned bombers might also be on the cards... though the cost of such a thing would be eye watering...

Personally I think for long endurance drones they should consider airships... not fast... can't fire fight from place to place like a smaller faster jet powered aircraft, but its ability to remain on station for a month... perhaps covered in solar panels with radar arrays and communications hubs to bounce signals and assist in the control of robots on the ground or in the air... able to operate at very high altitudes and to change altitudes to take advantage of the trade winds that could allow it to move significant distances very quickly if needed...

The new Okhotnik engine exhaust nozzle is 3D printed from a titanium alloy powder. This is world leading technology and is being applied
    to production of critical systems.

Kind of off topic, sorry about that, but additive manufacturing is quickly becoming commonplace in Russian energy industry and aerospace. The big developers founded the Association for the Development of Additive Technologies last year, and aim to establish 180 design and fab centers across Russia by 2030 - to feed and equip the rest of industry. Rapid development. Then again, the market grew considerably in the 2010s.

Back on topic, I wonder if they will change the APU nozzle too...

They might hide the APU exhaust with a mesh screen and perhaps reshape it to accelerate the mix of cold air with hot to reduce IR signature...

Off topic stuff is certainly relevant in this case.... Very Happy

The video focuses on the IR signature reduction.   One objective is to lower the temperature coming out of the nozzle, the other is to
cover the exhaust inside the fuselage.   I am going to surmise that there will be cold air mixed into the exhaust before it exits from the
nozzle.   The video did not cover this aspect but it makes the most sense.   It does not lower the performance and it is the most direct
way of lowering the temperature.   Other cooling solutions require more surface area to radiate the heat away which will affect the
    performance and the weight.

What you see in the first flying prototype is not what the next stage in the development will have.

If the main jet engine nozzle is going to be optimised to reduce IR signature then I wonder (along with Autodestruct) what they will do with the APU exhaust... will they reshape it in the same way, or perhaps combine it with the exhaust of the main engine or add a fan to add cold bypass air to mix with the APU airflow to reduce its signature separately...

i Just woke up to this beauty and apparently it's designed with a flat nozzle, that is one weird layout in the back from this angle, hopefully they release more from other angles.
Obviously i'm not an expert so I'll let you guys speculate

Russian Defense Ministry: serial contract for delivery of the S-70 drone will be concluded within six months

Serial deliveries are scheduled to start in 2024.

MOSCOW, December 14. /tass/. The serial contract for the supply of the latest Russian strike drone (UAV) S-70 "Okhotnik" will be concluded within six months. This was stated on Tuesday by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"Today, the complex is already quite seriously ready for mass production. I would like to add that in the near future we will already conclude a serial contract for the supply of these vehicles [S-70 Okhotnik drones]. These vehicles are still test vehicles, but within six months we will conclude a serial contract ahead of the delivery of these unmanned vehicles, " he said.
