They have special algorithms when it hit the target. If they show too much you can guess the typical final path of the missile. Then you can optimize jammers and evasive manoeuvres and reduce the Pk of the system.

They are right to not show it.

IEMZ "Kupol" (part of the JSC Concern "Almaz-Antey") presents at the forum "Army-2019" new models of military equipment. Moreover, participating in the main national military exposition, the plant identified priority areas not only in strengthening the country's defense capability, but also in supporting the patriotic movement Yunarmiya, founded on the initiative of the Russian Defense Ministry, in educating the younger generation, in shaping an active life position among young people: a detachment of young soldiers - students of the Izhevsk TRIT, created with the support of the KEMU IEMP - entered the guard of honor of the military equipment of the plant. Yunarmiya will keep an honorary watch throughout the work of the MVTF "Army-2019".

One of the main innovations of the plant, the Tor-M2DT anti-aircraft missile system in sand camouflage, is located at the Concern’s combined exposition. The air defense systems of the Tor family are intended for air defense of troops and especially important objects. They can also be used as part of echelon-ed air defense groups, blocking the “dead zones” of long-range systems. The Tor-M2DT air defense system differs from the main model primarily in its carrier base - fire and reconnaissance vehicles are located on the chassis of the two-link tracked all-terrain vehicle DT-30PM Vityaz, produced by the Ishimbay transport engineering plant. The specific pressure on the ground is 0.3 kg / cm2 (less than that of a person), the ascent / descent angle is 35 degrees, and the heel is 20 degrees. It is able to move in complete off-road conditions.

First of all, the complex is intended for combat service in the Arctic, as part of the Arctic group of Russian troops, and several batteries of this complex have already been sent to units of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation. But the dressing of “Tor-M2DT” in the new “sandy” camouflage, in which it is presented at the “Army-2019” forum, focuses on the breadth of geography of the complex and symbolizes the proven ability of the air defense missile system to be tested in +50° C, and in different climatic conditions, for example, in deserts, tropics, highlands, as well as the ability to overcome sand dunes and various water barriers.

The Tor family’s air defense systems are capable of detecting air attack weapons at ranges of up to 32 km, simultaneously processing up to 144 target marks, determining the 10 most dangerous targets and taking them to escort. Up to 4 air attack weapons can be fired at the same time with a three-second interval for launching anti-aircraft guided missiles. The affected area in range from 1 km to 16 km, in height from 0.01 to 12 km, in terms of exchange rate ± 9.5 km. The air defense system is capable of intercepting small targets (effective scattering surface from 0.1 m2), flying at speeds of up to 700 m / s. Each combat vehicle carries 16 missiles 9M338. Effective destruction of targets is provided in any weather conditions, day and night, under conditions of intense fire and radio-optical-electronic countermeasures. The radio command guidance system ensures high accuracy of combat work - “Torahs” work according to the principle “one goal - one rocket”. It is likely that a rejection of the practice of shooting from a short stop will soon follow - the “Torah” “learned” to shoot down the means of air attack without stopping the movement. Their high tactical and technical characteristics of anti-aircraft missile systems manufactured by IEMZ Kupol are not only regularly confirmed during trials, but also effectively demonstrated in real combat.

Recall that in June 2019, combat docking shots of the Tor-M2DT air defense system took place at the Kapustin Yar testing ground in the Astrakhan Region. They became the final stage of the training use of a short-range ZRK in the combat units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the completion of the retraining of personnel of the anti-aircraft missile systems division before performing tasks in the Arctic and the Far North. Prior to this, the personnel had completed a theoretical course of study and coordination at the Air Defense Training Center of the Ground Forces in Yeisk. The first brigade set of the Tor-M2DT air defense system was delivered to the troops in 2018.

Looks like there will be a Tor-m? upgrade with even more missiles, this is from the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland, with probably the two most famous Russians military experts, the full article is good:

    Combat drones: an integrated approach

    Posted May 15, 2019

In order to improve the combat effectiveness of the Tor-M2 air defense missile system in repelling the massive attacks of small-sized targets, IEMZ Kupol JSC began modernizing the combat vehicle by introducing a small-range ultra-short-range anti-aircraft missile (SMD) into the ammunition. This SAM will be integrated into the combat vehicle through a standard transport and launch container (TPC). At the same time, the cost of several SMD missiles located in one TPC will be less than the cost of the main missile of the complex - 9M338. Of course, the introduction of the SMD SAM will significantly increase the ammunition of the Thor combat vehicle and will ensure not only the defeat of EI of the respective classes, but also expand the arsenal of tactical methods for repelling the massive attack of these EHVs. The distribution of 16 blocks TPK in the BM ZRK "Tor-M2" between the 9M338 SAM and SMD SAM can be variable,

Propably the same procedure as with the Pantsir and S-350 = 4 small missiles instead of one "normal sized" one. Which means 64 missiles for each vehicle.

Russia to develop Tor sea-launched air defense missile system in early 2020s

The land-based Tor-M2 air defense missile system is an effective means to strike aircraft, helicopters, aerodynamic unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles

ST. PETERSBURG. July 12. /TASS/. The first prototype of the Tor-MF surface-to-air missile system for the Russian Navy will be created in the early 2020s, Assistant to the CEO of the Izhevsk-based Kupol Electro-Mechanical Plant Vyacheslav Kartashov told TASS at the International Maritime Defense Show on Friday.

"Work continues to develop the seaborne Tor-MF system. So far, it has been created in drawings. We are planning to make its ‘hardware’ prototype in the early 2020s," he said.

The defense contractor is developing the Tor-MF for the Russian Navy, he specified.

"The system is standardized by its hardware and software and is set to be integrated into a ship," the assistant to the Kupol CEO said.

"Tor-M2DT" SAM for the first time took up combat duty in the Northern Fleet

The division of the Arctic anti-aircraft missile systems Tor-M2DT, which is part of the motorized rifle brigade of the Northern Fleet, has taken up the first experimental combat duty in the Murmansk region, the press service of the Federation Council said. “The unit is deployed at one of the land and coastal training grounds in the Pechenga district of the Murmansk region. The military are practicing actions to ensure control of airspace and air defense facilities, "the report says.

SAM "Tor-M2DT" entered service with the Northern Fleet last year. The personnel of the air defense division equipped with new systems completed a full training course at the training center and performed the first live firing at a military training ground in the Astrakhan region. In July 2019, the first firing of air defense systems in the Arctic took place on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

The Tor-M2DT air defense system was developed and mass-produced at the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol JSC (part of the Almaz - Antey Concern East Kazakhstan). The complex is a new modification of the Tor-M2 air defense system, designed to operate in difficult climatic conditions, at a distance from the bases. The placement of air defense systems on the chassis of the DT-30 "Vityaz" two-link tracked conveyor manufactured by the Ishimbay transport engineering plant provides high traffic through conditions in complete off-road conditions and overcome water obstacles afloat.

Tor-M2DT" is made in the Arctic version - for operation in the Arctic and the Far North. This complex is capable of functioning in the temperature range from minus 50 to plus 50 ° C.

Tor-M2DT is capable of detecting air attack weapons at ranges up to 32 km. At the same time, up to 144 goal marks are processed, the 10 most dangerous are identified and taken for maintenance. Four of them can be fired at the same time (in the sector 30x30 °). The affected area in range - from 1 to 15 km, in height - from 0.01 to 12 km, in the course parameter - ± 9.5 km. SAM is capable of intercepting small targets (effective scattering surface of 0.1 sq. M.) Flying at a speed of up to 700 m / s.

The combat crew of the Tor-M2DT air defense system has all the necessary conditions for the effective operation of the complex, both at extremely low and high temperatures.

    Tor-E2 SAM system breaks cover

    https://www.janes.com/article/90814/tor-e2-sam-system-breaks-cover

TOR Air Defence system - Page 14 P1636088_main

Russia's Izhevsk Electro-Mechanical Plant Kupol, a subsidiary of the Almaz-Antey Concern, has unveiled the latest iteration of the Tor 'SA-15 Gauntlet' short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system: the 9K331E Tor-E2.

Kupol promotes the Tor-E2 as "a new generation of the Tor family". The Tor-E2 is armed with 16 9M338KE ready-to-launch effectors in two eight-cell launch canisters, all of which can be replaced in 25 minutes.

Like other Tor family SAM systems, it is designed to engage fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, various missiles (including cruise and anti-radiation ones), guided and gliding bombs, and unmanned aerial vehicles round the clock. The Tor-E2 system can simultaneously detect and process up to 48 targets at a range of up to 32,000 m, analyse the air picture and automatically select the most immediate threats, track 10 targets, and simultaneously engage four. The Tor-E2's combat vehicle (CV) can share target information with other CVs.

According to Kupol, the integration of the new missile has reinforced the system's combat performance: the Tor-E2 can engage an aerial target flying at a distance of up to 16,000 m and at an altitude of up to 12,000 m.

Like the Tor-M2E, the Tor-E2 is based on a tracked vehicle, producing a top speed of 65 km/h and a cruising range of 500 km. The system weighs 37 tonnes and is operated by a three-strong crew.

Propably the same procedure as with the Pantsir and S-350 = 4 small missiles instead of one "normal sized" one. Which means 64 missiles for each vehicle.

The new TOR missiles are already quite small, I suspect the plan is to have extra TL (ie tel but not being an erector as they launch vertically, so just tl) with the unit that don't have any guidance or search radar or systems and are just used as ammo for the standard vehicles.

This would mean that a 6 vehicle battery with 16 missiles per vehicle and able to track 10 targets each and launch at four targets at one time, meaning 60 targets tracked and 24 engaged at any one time could have another 6 trailers which are relatively cheap because they don't have radar etc, each with a further 16 missiles per vehicle, so instead of having 6 x 16 missiles (96) ready to fire they will have 12 x 16 (192).

Of course the number of extra trailers is not really limited by anything except space and cost and being rather cheap in terms of missiles they could have 12 trailers per battery if there is a serious threat.

Keep in mind that individual vehicles can operate on their own at lowest efficiency, but as a battery they would be much more efficient, and as an IADS they would be even more effective because longer range SAMs could be used to bring down threats before they launch munitions to threaten the target or the IADS itself.

Read they are offered on the market for a $100 million US... would assume the Russian military would pay a fraction of that. That price is for a battery of 4 with all the equipment, training and spare missiles. So that would represent 64 units however suspect the Russians will get twice that.

Tor's are in batteries of 4 fire units with 3-4 batteries making a regiment.

Difficult to say as we don't know the price, but some estimate around 200 TELARs.

Latest Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems arrive for Russia’s Baltic Fleet

The systems have arrived for the troops after successful drills with a live-fire exercise

MOSCOW, October 31. /TASS/. The Baltic Fleet’s army corps has received the latest Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile systems, the Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.

"The new Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems have arrived for the troops after successful drills with a live-fire exercise at a firing range in the Astrakhan Region. The personnel of the air defense missile regiment underwent re-training at the Yeisk training center to learn to operate the new systems, after which the servicemen performed the first launches of missiles at the Kapustin-Yar range," the press office said.

During the test-launches, the personnel hit several fast-speed Saman-type maneuvering targets launched from various directions and flying at minimum and maximum altitudes.

The Tor-M2 all-weather tactical surface-to-air missile system with a 15km range capability is designated to effectively fight air-to-surface missiles, guided and smart air bombs, anti-radar missiles and other new-generation precision weapons, tactical and army aviation aircraft, cruise missiles, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. The anti-aircraft missile system is capable of successfully accomplishing combat missions in any situation under intensive enemy jamming.

    https://www.armyrecognition.com/analysis_focus_army_defence_military_industry_army/russian_air_defense_pantsir_tor_to_train_fire_in_motion.html

Pantsir and Tor antiaircraft guns have to down cruise missiles, aircraft and drones. Formally, they need a brief stopover to fire. However, Syrian combat experience showed they have to destroy the attacking force in motion, e.g. if kamikaze drones attack. The assaults are mortally dangerous for marching hardware, the Izvestia daily writes.

Changes into Pantsir and Tor training system are being drafted. A set of new firing drills in motion will be tested at ranges in early 2020. If effective, the technique to repel surprise air raids will be adopted and massive training of the troops will begin in late 2020, the Defense Ministry said. Modern combat techniques demand maximum air defense mobility, former head of the antiaircraft missile forces Alexander Gorkov said. "Fire in motion has been already trained. Pantsir attacked both air and ground targets," he said.

The latest hostilities demonstrated that only a weapon capable of immediate fire can reliably protect the troops. Cruise missile and drone attacks are like a lightning and leave no time for preparations to repel them. Air defense weapons have to constantly move to survive. They should rapidly leave the position after they exhaust the round of munitions. It is not easy to adapt the weapons for such fire. Russian designers and engineers had to deal with major technical issues, Gorkov said. Even NATO countries have no short-range air defense weapons capable of firing in motion.

After stationary air defense repelled drone strikes at Russian bases in Syria, the militants began to attack the Syrian government army. It was a difficult task to defend it. The terrorists succeeded to destroy armored vehicles in motion with makeshift drones. The threat of modern drones and smart munitions is even higher. Big attack drones and loitering munitions operate in the armies which are no technological leaders. Surprise attacks against poorly protected columns on the march are a major tactical technique. Mobility is vital for the survival of the air defense weapons in the fight against modern arms.

The Russian army has several Pantsir and Tor modifications. They are all short-range weapons to protect military and civilian facilities, marching troops, accumulation areas and the frontline.

Tor-M2 is the latest weapon of the family. The range of its new missile is 20 km. It operates by one target - one missile principle. It can fire at four targets at a time. The first Tor modification could attack only one target.

Pantsir is the most perfect air defense weapon in the world. It can destroy air and ground targets by missiles and two 30mm guns. Modern conflicts confirmed the high effectiveness of the weapon. It is armed with 12 missiles with a range of 20 km, the Izvestia said.

It is quoted from Izvestia. Anyway, it seems Russian air defense will intensify trainings of Pantsir and Tor crews in operations on the move and tactics of fighting with the most difficult targets as different cruise missiles and bombs as well as drone swarms and loitering munitions.

Arctic Tor-M2DT anti-aircraft missile system goes on combat alert in Murmansk Region

An official ceremony was held outside Pechenga, where the unit is stationed

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. A battery of Arctic Tor-M2DT surface-to-air missile systems of the Russian Northern Fleet’s separate motor rifle brigade has been placed on combat alert in the Murmansk Region, Spokesman for the Northern Fleet Vadim Serga told reporters on Saturday.

According to the spokesman, an official ceremony was held outside Pechenga, where the unit is stationed.

"A battery of the self-propelled anti-aircraft missile systems entered test combat duty back in August," Serga added.

The Tor-M2DT surface-to-air missile system has been developed using the Vityaz two-section tracked prime mover for its employment in the Arctic and the Extreme North and is capable of operating at a temperature of minus 50 degrees Celsius. The new system comprises 16 surface-to-air vertically launched missiles with a striking range of up to 12 km and an altitude range of up to 10,000 meters. The upgraded target detection station is capable of spotting aircraft based on stealth technology.

The Tor-M2DT is designated to defend vital administrative, industrial and military facilities and also land troops against air attacks in the Arctic and the Extreme North. The system controls the airspace against strikes by cruise missiles, air bombs, aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Tor and Buk series are very good ones. Probably, the best air defence systems Russia has. Used to talk to a dude, who always personally spectate drills of russian air defence systems. He said that Tor and Buk SAMs usually intercepts a target with a probability of 70% at least(so it mostly 1 missile per target). Subsonic low flying targets like tomahawk are the easiest ones and generally are easy meat against them. Tor-M2 is capable of shooting down ATGMs as well. The reports about bad performance of Pantsir(in comparison to Tor series) are true. But I didn't ask him about the newest Pantsir-SM though.

Reports were for small slow moving drones. Such targets looks like birds for a radar and many radar filters them.

Pantsir intercepted grad rockets. Tomahawks are easy targets for them.

Ground forces air defense sign contract for 18 brigades completes. They included 8 Tor-M2 brigades, 2 Tor-M2DT brigades, 7 Buk-M3 brigades and 1 S-300V4 brigade. Buk and S-300V brigades consist of 4 battalions, what bring 4 radar completes and 24 launchers. Now is the question, how big is Tor brigade. Tor battery have 4 TELARs and 1 CP, battalion have 12 TELARs and 3CPs. Now is the question, how many battalions have 1 Tor brigade. If brigade have 2 battalions, than it have 24 TELARs, if it have 3 battalions,m, than it have 36 TELARs. Let us be minimalistic and say that Tor-M2 brigade have 24 TELARs. 10 brigades together bring the number to 240 Tor-M2 and Tor_M2DT TELARs. This is quite big number. Russia already operate around 200 Tors, so they will have enough nof them to replace all old Osas.

Tor's are presently organized in a 12 TELAR regiment (3 divisions) assigned to maneuver brigades or a 16 TELAR regiment (4 divisions) assigned to maneuver divisions. Perhaps the 16 TELAR unit is to be called a brigade?
