I'd tell more old people to try their hand at wood working or flight simulators (I dabble in both and am not old at all)

Those are good time-soaks, require dedication, and can produce impressive results

Dunno about the king in Serbia but here, quality went down a lot after that Brazilian company purchased it. Same company owns Tim Hortons too. And they jacked up the price. Whopper Wednesday used to be $0.50 per whopper to now $4 per whopper. Just Wednesdays. Otherwise it's $7 for one.

At least this man managed to get out of jail. There are cases where even DNA evidence is not enough to convince some
rotten, posturing DA to allow a prisoner out. The show 60 Minutes covered such a case.

The frightening thing is that often the DA conceals information that might cast doubts on a guilty verdict... the fact that they go unpunished for this is criminal.

It should not be about convictions at all costs, it should be about justice and making the community safer.

Instead it is really about whether you can afford a good lawyer or not.

When criminal activity at the government level is exposed and it is the whistleblowers that are in jail...

Child sex abusers at CIA avoiding prosecution: What we know

A scolding expose based on a trove of internal CIA documents indicates an apparent pattern of failure by the federal government to prosecute CIA employees and contractors suspected of child sex abuse crimes. The article published by BuzzFeed is based on over 3,500 pages of declassified materials it obtained through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

How many pedophiles are we talking about?
At least 10 cases of credibly suspected crimes were identified over the course of 14 years, according to BuzzFeed.

The trove of documents details investigations by the CIA’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The spy agency watchdog deals internally with all sorts of crimes, including those committed by third parties, like possession of a fake agent badge. The documents were heavily redacted and the release of some pages under FOIA was fully denied.

BuzzFeed focused its investigation on alleged sexual crimes involving minors. Of the 10 identified individuals, one admitted to sexually abusing two girls aged two and six. Most cases involve crimes related to child pornography, like possession, smuggling, and procurement of outlawed conten

Why no federal prosecution for CIA employees?
The US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, which declined prosecution, would not comment on individual cases, but said that “the occupation or employer of the suspect does not factor” in its decision of whether to file charges. The reference to “taint issues” may indicate mishandling of evidence, BuzzFeed suggested.

A CIA insider told the outlet that the agency is concerned that in a criminal trial, classified information may be disclosed. “We can’t have these people testify, they may inadvertently be forced to disclose sources and methods,” the former official was cited as saying.

No prosecutions resulted from the sex scandals at all?
BuzzFeed identified two such cases, in which both of the prosecuted individuals were also accused of mishandling classified materials. One was an unidentified contractor, who was found to have on his private laptop personal data of “Agency-affiliated individuals” and technical files “related to Agency systems.” They were discovered during a child porn probe. The FBI took over as the primary investigator of the case.

Another one involves Joshua Schulte, the former CIA technical specialist accused of leaking the agency’s hacking tools dubbed ‘Vault 9’ to transparency organization WikiLeaks. Last year, he was convicted of contempt of court and making false statements to the FBI, but the jury got deadlocked on the more serious leaking allegations. He pleaded not guilty over the child pornography possession charges. A separate trial for those allegations is pending.

What about the other alleged sex offenders?
Five of the 10 people spotlighted by BuzzFeed were fired or resigned. Five others were referred to a personnel board or the Office of Security, which handles the security of CIA facilities. The outcome of one case could not be learned from the released documents.

In an eleventh case, the OIG found no direct evidence of any crimes, but said the subject had “consistent interest” in the topic of sexual abuse of minors, which the office believed to be concerning. The part explaining how the agency handled the situation was redacted.

BuzzFeed said the CIA’s record of dealing with suspected offenders as described in the documents “marks a striking deviation from how sex crimes involving children have been handled at other federal agencies.”

Here in Louisiana, Louisiana State University (LSU) just hired a football coach and is paying him 100 million dollars.  The university has a moldy library and other infrastructure problems.  Priorities are really screwed up here; Of course Education is not a top priority since Louisiana ranks in last place or close to it in most education ranking.  I agree with Foster Campbell in this article about paying a football coach this amount of money and LSU has a moldy library.  

I just want to know is sports taken this passionately in the countries where most of you guys are from on the university level or even high school level?

This is an American pathology. In Canada we do not have such an absurd investment in varsity teams. In Europe for sure they do not have
this American issue either. I have not heard of any sports vs. education infrastructure competition in Russia. Sports is not financed by
academic institutions but by the state. There has been a move to private sponsorship and I am sure some school support after 1990, but
what you describe is simply unheard of.

Another difference is that there is nothing like a magical sport like US football in Russia which is pervasive. Sure, there is hockey, some soccer
and other sports but there is no cultural obsession with them. Hockey is a big thing in Canada but it does not have the peculiar financing that
you see with football in the US.

There is a lot of money in sports around the world, if they are not doing well academically they might think they can earn extra dollars with sports.

The US invests a lot in sports technology and have lots of sports centres... Australia is the same... there are lots of sports centres of excellence appearing here too, but for instance many NZ athletes will go to the US or Australia for months at a time before a major event to prepare because in those locations they have technology and the facilities and the people support to help them do better as athletes, and in that sense they can probably charge what they like because most of it will be paid for by sponsorships anyway...

by the way, anyone finds it odd that the LGTV zealots represent like two percent of the world's population concentrated in very specific regions of the planet, yet those two percent happen to be exactly the ones to be vocal and loud on social media? in a sense that the absolute perfect tool was readily provided for them in order to *try* and propagate their nonesense?

In America, sports in universities are bigger than education and you can see where America is headed.

We can see why the west is having lockdowns, if they open up, the west(especially America) will be exposed as a 3rd world countries.

Social media is collective brain disorder. In this case quite literally. Do not overdose on salt, it can be terminal.

Japan’s Top Electronics Company Admits Employee Died by Suicide From Overwork

The former employee, then a 43-year-old man from Hiroshima Prefecture, began working at Panasonic in 2003 as a factory worker. In April 2019, he was promoted to deputy chief in the company’s engineering department, where he experienced severe working hours. 

According to his lawyer, Tadashi Matsumaru, the employee regularly worked over 100 hours a week, way past the average 40. He’d sleep between 4 to 5 a.m., only to leave for work before 8 in the morning. 

The man eventually fell into depression from overwork and in October 2019, he died by suicide after leaving a note for his family, seen by VICE World News. 

In the man’s letter, the employee wrote, “Dad is tired. It’s too much work. I can’t forgive Panasonic. Please tell my story to the media.”

According to Matsumaru, who represents the former Panasonic employee’s bereaved family, current labor guidelines are ineffective in preventing death from overworking. “This employee did leave the office by 8 p.m., but Panasonic has no policy that counts the hours he worked at home as overtime,” he told VICE World News. 

“There’s timecode evidence from when the employee logged onto the company’s server from his laptop at home. This indicates he was working over 100 hours a week—a normal work week is 40 hours in Japan,” he said. 

In 2018, policymakers passed a bill amending labor laws to improve work-life balance, such as including a cap of 45 hours a month of overtime. But with large companies circumventing guidelines and underreporting working hours, labor activists and lawyers fear little has improved. 

Though Japan caps the amount of overtime to 45 hours per month for a single employee, it’s common for companies to break such guidelines. In August, Japanese authorities surveyed 24,042 companies and found that 37 percent of them had employees working past that limit. 

Such long hours have dire health consequences. According to Japanese government data, nearly one out of every 10 suicides in 2019 was related to work.
