How many times you or your buddies landed in some shitty place in the middle of nowhere, hearing Russian outside the plane, for refuel?
The funniest thing - of course in our interest sphere - was when some shitheads from the Congress were asking the US generals about the situation.
And they just ... wash them down the toilet.
My first time hearing Russian out of the blue was in Afghanistan 2006 in August,
An russian contractor working for NATO had it's MI-26 mauled by ground fire and made an emergency landing.
It landed outside of our base, and we where tasked in protecting it.
The MI-26's where our mail-service.
Hauling things as small as mail,. up to brand-new armoured vehicles.
anyway, they spend 6 hours on the ground doing repairs with an 3 man crew, and took off again.
We just where...shocked for a lack of better word.
This thing landed with smoke, but first it started up.
Its engines fired, white smoke from the engines..
Then the engines pitched up in sound, rotors spinning faster.
And it took off, slowly. shortly hovering above the ground. then slowly turning towards KAF airbase and gaining altitude.
NATO aircraft need an workshop and spend at least days before cleared for flight again.
I heard an story of an MI-8 russian contractor as well that was unloading cargo at an Canadian base, causing one critical causualty.
The base was attacked by mortars, the russians powered the MI-8 back up to full power and the loadmaster got out and kept yelling in russian to the canadian troops.
pointing to their helicopter and the injured canadian treated by the medics.
Chads wanted to take him back to KAF airfield, stayed on the ground during Artillery fire.
I heard NATO aircraft doing amazing stuff as well.
But this just gets silenced at home, shame really.
Some examples are truly worth it to tell.
regarding Congress, ever seen so much misguided crooked people under one roof?.
They always wash any sort of info down the toilet
.
There was this shamefull display a few years ago where an admiral had to explain how submarines work.
Congresswomen could not wrap her head around that these things have not infinite depth, territorial waters and you "just" can not shoot at any contact.
That for example Russians also use large submarines for ocean research. Congresswoman felth that the U.S Navy should deal with them.
Admiral *blank stare*
"well,...you do not shoot at unarmed research vessels. in our navy culture its akin to commiting murder".
"they are messing with the internet cables"
"they are operating an unarmed submarine in international water's that happen to be near submersed cables, yes"
of course its like explaining astonomy to an monkey with these people.
