NOTE: on a previous post had mentioned how in the daily MoD briefings that the projected Ukrainian causalities normally ran in the 600-900 range, very rarely dropping below 500 or going above 1,000. I had posted an example of less then 500 at that time and here is the briefing for the 17th which exceeds 1,000.
Summary of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the progress of the special military operation (as of October 17, 2023)
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continued to conduct a special military operation.
In the Kupyansk direction, units of the "Western" grouping of troops during active operations with the support of aviation and artillery fire repelled seven enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Ivanovka, Timkovka, Kharkiv region and Nadia of the Luhansk People's Republic.
The enemy's losses amounted to 270 soldiers killed and wounded, a tank, ten armored combat vehicles and three pickups.
During the counter-battery struggle, two Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery units and two Gvozdika self-propelled artillery units were hit.
In the Krasnolimansky direction, the coordinated actions of the units of the "Center" group of troops, army aviation strikes, artillery fire repelled two attacks by the assault groups of the 21st, 63rd mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also defeated the manpower and equipment of the 21st, 67th mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Chervonaya Dibrova, Shipilovka and Kuzmino of the Luhansk People's Republic.
The enemy's losses amounted to up to 115 soldiers, three armored combat vehicles and two cars.
Also, during the counter-battery struggle, two D-20 guns were hit, as well as the Msta-B howitzer.
In the Donetsk direction, units of the "Southern" grouping of troops, in cooperation with aviation and artillery, repelled nine attacks by Ukrainian units. The enemy's manpower and equipment were defeated in the areas of the settlements of Orekhovo-Vasilevka and Andreevka of the Donetsk People's Republic.
The daily losses of the enemy in this direction amounted to up to 485 Ukrainian servicemen killed and wounded, three armored combat vehicles, two cars, an Msta-B howitzer, as well as a D-20 gun.
In addition, the US-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar station was destroyed, as well as the field ammunition depot of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the South Donetsk direction, the units of the Vostok group of troops, in cooperation with army aviation and artillery, inflicted a fire defeat on the concentrations of manpower of the units of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the city of Ugledar of the Donetsk People's Republic.
The total losses of the enemy in this direction amounted to up to 150 Ukrainian servicemen killed and wounded, two armored fighting vehicles, three cars, as well as two D-20 howitzers.
In the Zaporozhye direction, units of the Russian grouping of troops, air strikes and artillery fire repelled four attacks of the 117th mechanized and 82nd airborne assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the village of Verbovoye, Zaporozhye region.
The enemy's losses amounted to 110 Ukrainian servicemen, seven tanks, seven armored fighting vehicles, and three cars.
During the counter-battery struggle, the following were hit: the M109 "Paladin" howitzer manufactured in the USA, as well as the self-propelled artillery installation "Carnation".
In the Kherson direction, as a result of fire damage, more than 45 Ukrainian servicemen, three cars, as well as a D-30 howitzer were destroyed.
Operational-tactical and army aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops and artillery groups of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation hit the manpower and military equipment of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces in 117 districts.
The Mi-8 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down by means of air defense. Five tactical missiles and four guided GLSDB bombs manufactured by the USA were intercepted.
In addition, 34 unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed in the areas of the settlements of Belogorovka, Vasilevka, Svatovo of the Luhansk People's Republic, Berestove of the Donetsk People's Republic, Novaya Tarasovka of the Kharkiv region, Peschanovka and Sagi of the Kherson region.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 491 aircraft, 251 helicopters, 7953 unmanned aerial vehicles, 441 anti-aircraft missile systems, 12706 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1163 multiple rocket launchers, 6802 field artillery and mortar guns, as well as 14372 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed.
