It is not APS.
This pipe delivers air while crossing the water obstacles on the bottom.
A full snorkeling set consists of 2 pipes, but you can traverse the water of depth up to 4m with just one.

They were testing if the APS housing can withstand getting doused in a bit of water. AFAIK this is the only APS that has been subjected to this test, but I'm sure Afghanit should be rated water proof as well.

The 61st Armored Repair Plant (Strelna, St. Petersburg) performed major repairs of T-72B3 tanks as part of the state defense order.
All components and assemblies of the transmission, chassis, engine and on-board electrical equipment have been restored in accordance with the requirements of the repair documentation. The components were replaced with new ones, which allowed restoring the resource of tanks to the required level.
After conducting all types of bench, running and firing tests under the supervision of military representatives, the repaired armored vehicles were sent to the army.

Important to check your radar and other components of the APS system keep working after you ford a few rivers...
But as the fording system has been brought up I did notice that they only use one tube when normally two are used... one to suck air in for the crew and keep over pressure to stop water coming in, and one for the engine intake as shown in the picture above.
Have they adapted the engine to suck air from the crew compartment meaning only one air intake pipe is needed?
Would make it rather blustery in the crew compartment but it would be quicker and easier with just one tube.
I also see with the first images that they have given up with tubes the crew can escape through, so are they just equipped with underwater breathing equipment and just let the tank flood and then open the hatches and swim out?

Re: T-72 ΜΒΤ modernisation and variants
Uralvagonzavod (Eng: Ural Railway Car Factory) has shipped "combat sport cars" for the "Tank Biathlon".
As part of the implementation of the State Defense Order, Uralvagonzavod has shipped another batch of T-72B3 tanks to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The vehicles will be delivered to the troops, and in August this year they will take part in the Tank Biathlon competition.
Like all Uralvagonzavod combat vehicles, the T-72B3 is characterized by high reliability, simplicity of design, and ease of mastering. Due to these characteristics, it is perfectly suitable for training and honing the skills of tankers and therefore has become the main machine for conducting a "Tank Biathlon". Almost all countries participating in military competitions compete on the T-72B3, about 20 national teams compete annually. In 2019, in the final of the "Tank Biathlon", the Russian team accelerated the combat vehicle to a record speed of over 80 kilometers per hour. For the high speed characteristics of the T-72B3, they were nicknamed the "combat sport car".

Re: T-72 ΜΒΤ modernisation and variants
By the way, if you look at it in detail, you can see that the new batch of T-72B3 received automatic armored blinds (?) on the Sosna-U sight.
? - I really don't know how to translate this into English, correct me. In Russian, this is called armored blinds.
The tanks also received new rigid front wings

Protection against snipers. Common tactic in Syria and Ukraine was to blind tanks by destroying their optics with snipers.

Crimea was reinforced with the latest T-72B3M Tanks

Crimea was reinforced with super-protected tanks. The 126th Coastal Defense Brigade received the latest T-72B3M. Their armor reliably shelters the crew from artillery fire and anti-tank missiles. And the weapons control system allows you to hit a variety of types of targets - from armored vehicles to small ships and helicopters. According to experts, tensions have been growing in the southwestern direction recently, so the group on the peninsula must be equipped with the most modern weapons.
The main battle tank T-72B3 has been produced since 2011. Today in the Ground Forces, the Airborne Forces and the Coastal Forces of the Navy, there are more than 1,500 samples in service. In recent years, they have been upgraded to the level of the T-72B3M. The updated version differs from the basic version by a more powerful engine (1130 hp compared to 840 hp on the T-72B3), automatic transmission, protective screens. T-72B3M is equipped with the most advanced reactive armor "Relikt". The armament complex includes a 2A46M-5-01 cannon, which is also capable of launching anti-tank missiles, 12.7 mm and 7.62 mm machine guns. The fire control system "Sosna-U" includes a thermal imager, a laser rangefinder and an automatic target tracking. The equipment of the machine allows the gunner-operator to detect and destroy objects day and night in any weather.

Re: T-72 ΜΒΤ modernisation and variants
Let me focus your attention on one factor.
They cover the crew.
Don't care about mobility or general survivance.
How bizarre, when we consider usual western narration ...
Russkies do not care for the crews, right?
That is why they made rescue capsules for all the submarines they fielded in the last 60 years.
Opposite to Ze Wezt, who owns a zero sub with that bizarre feature

Re: T-72 ΜΒΤ modernisation and variants
Probably installed in the T-72 since Relikt on other Russian tanks will be enough to stop a Javelin on its own, and even on the T-72 the area which is actually vulnerable is not that big. Still a kopeks value solution defeating a $100k+ weapon would be a nice slap in the face of US MIC and their compradors
The difference in this case is that a RPG costs peanuts, but a Javelin or TOW-2B is crazy expensive

Re: T-72 ΜΒΤ modernisation and variants
Factors include the effect it has on visibility regarding drones, and the ability for the crew to get into and out of the turret positions.
I rather suspect it is more a thing to protect the tanks from tiny drones that drop hand grenades and smash optics, or suicide drones that fly into the tops of tanks with a 10kg warhead trying to smash optics and antenna and damage ERA and APS bits.
It should also effect Javelin and Bill 2 and Copperhead, but also hand thrown HEAT warhead grenades... and indeed top attack submunitions... which Ukraine would have inherited from soviet stocks...
