Do you mean the plane in post number 3 above?
Isn't that the L-15 jet trainer.
Was designed with the assistance of Yak.

BTW any video you find would be of interest... if the sound is annoying I usually turn it off anyway...

notice it's engine AI-222-25
Visually, it looks good - two big engines, nice contours, but I am concerned about fuel. Those engines are going to slurp fuel quickly, and there doesn't appear to be much room for adequate internal fuel.

It is a lead in fighter trainer, so really what you have to ask yourself is what do you want to train your pilots to do and what do you want to leave till they get to their operational airfield on the real thing.
Long ferry range makes distributing aircraft easier, but the ability to go supersonic allows some training that might be useful too.
I would suggest that as long as the bomb range and missile range and the gun range is relatively close to the training airfield that long range can be faked when it is needed with lots of external tanks.
Practising navigation over long distances.
For manoeuvre training and weapons training speed and power to better replicate the aircraft they will use in real combat makes more sense sometimes.
With larger engines you don't have to use afterburner so much so sometimes it can actually save fuel.

China's C919 large aircraft debuts in Zhuhai Air show (5) - People's Daily Online
A model of the China-made C919 large aircraft was displayed at the Eighth China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, (also commonly known as the 2010 Zhuhai Air Show), in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province on Nov .15, 2010.The model, which contained the cockpit and the front part of the passenger cabin, showed the true prototype of an actual full-scale C919 plane, with a length of 17 meters, a height of 5.6 meters and a width of 3.96 meters. (Photo By Pei Xin/Xinhua)
Wu Guanghui, chief designer of the C919 air bus, said the aircraft has advantages mainly in four aspects. The plane uses inert gas to ensure more secure fuel. It has increased room for passenger seats to improve comfort ability. It utilizes a new generation of air engine for more economic and efficient flight to reduce costs by 10 percent. It is eco-friendly, reducing emissions by 50 percent. The basic layout of the C919 consists of 168 economy classes and 156 mixed classes. It has a designed standard flight range of 4,075 kilometers and an enhanced flight range of 5,555 kilometers to meet various operational requirements of different flight routes for airline companies. The designed economic service lifespan of the C919 is 90,000 flight hours per 30 calendar years.(Photo By Qiu Xiang/cnr.cn)

New Chinese LACM Unveiled
By Robert Wall
ZHUHAI, CHINA
The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (Casic) has unveiled a new air-launched, land-attack cruise missile.
The weapon, first shown here at Airshow China, is the latest member of the C-802 missile family. The CM-802AKG, as the new weapon is designated, also has longer range than the air-launched version of the anti-ship C-802A, a company official says. The CM-802AKG range exceeds 200 km, whereas the C-802A has a range of around 180 km.
The missile weighs less than 700 kg and is equipped with a multipurpose warhead of slightly below 300 kg mass. One of the main design features of the weapon was achieving the range target at low weight, the Casic engineer notes.
The CM-802AKG uses either an infrared seeker or TV-seeker for terminal guidance. It uses a strap-down inertial navigation system, but GPS-guidance kit could be installed.
The missile is now in production in China, the Casic official says, and the company now is pursuing export customers.
China Developing Ducted-Fan UAV
By Robert Wall
ZHUHAI, CHINA
China’s AVIC is developing a ducted-fan unmanned aircraft for surveillance missions.
The design, called the Whirlwind Scout, is similar to Honeywell’s ducted-fan system and is supposed to be able to remain airborne for 20 to 40 minutes and follow a flight path of up to 100 waypoints. Multiple patrol patterns can also be programmed into the system.
The 8-kg. gross takeoff weight vehicle has an altitude ceiling of 3,000 meters. The cruise speed is 60 km./hr. with a maximum speed of 90 km./hr. Communications range is around 5 to 10 km.
The system is GPS/INS guided, and, in addition to the air vehicle, consists of a ground control station, a simulator, and two support equipment containers. The ground station can store up to 240 images.
In information displayed at Airshow China 2010, Avic Defense says the system is designed to be able to perch and stare to observe areas or shadow terrorist suspects. With a noise of around 60 dBA, Avic says the system can not be audibly detected by its target at a standoff range of 125 meters. The detection range for a human is 560 meters, with identification possible at 70 meters. Target location error is given is a mere 40 mm.
