Too late Mikoyan. You are way too far behind. Others in Russia are developing it already while you sat and waited.
The prototype they showed was incredibly detailed from memory... including the bomb bay...
I would suggest they had already done a lot of work on the project and just wanted funding for flight testing some prototypes...
To me the drone actually looked like a very good programme... two internal positions for bombs... it is basically a smaller cheaper unmanned F-117 with more advanced shaping. (ie curves instead of facets).
BTW with no funding what would you do on their place?
Exactly... you can design anything you like but if your main customer doesn't want it then you display it to the public to get funding from another customer... clearly no one else wanted it either... or were not allowed to.
If I was in their place, I wouldn't have made MiG-35, that's for sure. I would have moved onto a LO fifth gen design instead. They tried to go for the Su-35 line but years later...
The MiG-35 contains 5th gen avionics and systems... just like most of the stuff in the Su-35 was stuff being developed for the Su-57, so work on the MiG-35 keeps them up to date and actually making stuff that they are selling to the Russian AF and other customers too.
They might decide that a light 5th gen fighter is not needed, and just have a heavy 5th gen fighter and heavy and light 4++ gen fighters... (ie Su-57, Su-35, MiG-35 respectively).
The US Navy has gone all nukes with submarines, the US AF seems to be going all stealth fighter... doesn't mean they are right... certainly the most expensive option, but no surprise there.
And who says that they wont work on any new fighter? (like VSTOL for navy)?
There is no reason they can't work on MiG-35s, Scat drones, a new 5th gen light fighter (STOVL or whatever), and the MiG-41, and probably a few other projects too.
BTW drones similar to SKAT. NONE on market yet. And years to come to me also not.
2,000km flight radius, internal bomb bay for two large weapons (I seem to remember it was shown with Kh-31s in it) and high subsonic flight speed... what is not to like?
