Isn't it obvious? It's for the VDV Moonraker division.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Russia is really got into MRAP trend lately. Interesting designs, I hope that it gets at least chance to be exported.

Do you have any idea how much it increases the armor?
What's the largest round it could shrug off?

No idea, some ceramic material though. Probably similar to that other shot up BTR-80 shown earlier.

Some fine looking vehicles.
Really interested in the testing results for the Scorpion, as well as the other new trucks.

Makes you wonder why anyone thought it was a good idea to make the Russian ground forces dependent on a foreign supplier for armored trucks *cough, Iveco, cough* when there's plenty of quality vehicles being built domestically. I've especially taken a liking to the Kamaz-63968 Typhoon 6X6, it's a beauty of armored truck:

At the time light Russian mine protected vehicles were crap or non-existent. Actually I am unsure how the Tigr-6A testing even went.
Also, lots of crazy shit happened in the Serdykov era.
Threat of losing orders is a good thing, if applied properly. Fault is both with MOD and manufacturers.

What in your opinion is the model for light protected anti-mine vehicles?

Hard to say. I am not an expert in the field, but Russia had almost nothing/ what it had sucked or was much larger than say the Iveco. Tigr is bigger, and either way mine-protection was not a part of the original design. How the up-armored one fares I am still not sure about. Mixed reports.
I am not a huge fan of the "extreme-MRAP" vehicles such as the ones used in A-stan and Iraq, I think they sacrifice too much for widespread Russian army service.
Assuming it is as good as claimed, the Scorpion-LShA looks like the right light vehicle to replace the thousands of UAZiks used in the Russian mil and MVD.
I like it a lot. Simple, cheap but clean design.

Actually your not the only one who's criticized the use of MRAP's in Afghanistan, there's been military spending watch dog groups who've pointed out the obvious that MRAP's built by U.S. companies cost millions of dollars, while the IED's that they encounter only really cost $20, $30, $40, $50 to create. I could type up several pages worth of material of what's wrong with the war in Afghanistan but that's better suited for another thread.

Re: Russian Ground Forces: News #1
You have to keep in mind that all of a sudden the Russian military was getting real funding, but there had been no funding of the military industrial complex.
there were no Russian MRAPs because there had been no demand and no funding for such things and then when they got the money the Russian military expected the Russian industry to instantly have something to offer that was world class.
The reality is that no MIC in the world could have delivered in such a case, and more importantly there is a niche where MRAPs would be worth their cost but most of the time a more normal armoured vehicle will do... these vehicles are replacing 4x4 jeeps they don't need to be tanks... and shouldn't be.
At the time there was little real choice but now there seems to be a range of options in different weights that have actually achieved export orders...
