Re: Indonesian National Armed Forces
On April 19, 2021, two Su-30MK2 fighters of the 11th Squadron of the Indonesian Air Force took off from the Sultan Hasanuddin airbase on the island of Sulawesi and for the first time launched Russian-made Kh-29 TE air-to-surface high-precision aircraft missiles against ground targets at the Pandanwangi range in the eastern part of Java. After performing test launches, the fighters carried out aerial refueling from the Indonesian Air Force KC-130 Hercules tanker.

RIP Indonesian Submariners
As of now they are out of air and out of time, sub has not been found. I suspect it will be found imploded as it is 700M in the area and an oil slick was spotted. Subs are so unforgiving.

Indonesia gives up on Russian aircraft purchase, instead turning to US and French options
By Mike Yeo
MELBOURNE, Australia — Indonesia has admitted defeat in its attempt to buy Russian fighter jets and will now decide between the Boeing F-15EX Eagle II and the Dassault Rafale, according to the country’s Air Force chief of staff. Speaking to media during a gathering at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base near the Indonesian capital Jakarta, Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo said the Southeast Asian nation is seeking a 4.5-generation mediumweight or heavyweight fighter.

Re: Indonesian National Armed Forces
Indonesia seeks foreign funding to acquire Rafale and Mirage 2000 fighter jets
November 15th, 11:28 pm
As reported on November 15, 2022 by the information group Jane's , the Indonesian Ministry of Finance has authorized the Indonesian Ministry of Defense to obtain foreign loans of up to $3.9 billion for three separate proposals that were submitted by the Ministry of Defense to maintain the combat capabilities of the Indonesian Air Force. Two of these proposals include the purchase of 12 Dassault Mirage 2000-5 multi-role fighters from the Qatari Air Force, and the purchase from France of a second batch of 12 to 18 Dassault Rafale multi-role fighters.
The main program is the purchase of additional Rafale fighters. The Indonesian Ministry of Finance, after agreeing with the Ministry of National Development Planning, in September 2022 issued permission to arrange a new $2.9 billion credit line with a foreign lender for a second batch of 12-18 Rafales.
Recall that on February 10, 2022, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense signed an agreementwith the French company Dassault Aviation on the acquisition of 42 new-build Rafale fighters. The total cost of deliveries under this agreement is estimated at $7 billion, excluding weapons. Due to Indonesia's lack of such free funds, this Rafale purchase agreement was divided into three phased lots: the first batch of six aircraft (for which a formal contract was also signed in February), the second batch of 12-18 units, and the third batch of about 18-24 units.
Only the purchase of the first batch of six Rafale aircraft was formally secured by funding in the amount of $1.1 billion from the budget of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense in 2021, but also from foreign loans (probably also French). The approval of this loan was also somewhat delayed, and the contract for the first batch of six Rafale aircraft entered into force only on September 9, 2022, after Indonesia made advance payments from funds received from foreign lenders. It is reported that if sustained funding continues, these six first Rafales will begin delivery to the Indonesian Air Force 39 months after the contract enters into force, that is, from the end of 2025, with delivery completed by the end of 2026.
Indonesia needs $5.9 billion in foreign loans to finance the rest of the Rafale procurement program, but the sources of such loans have not yet been identified . Now, however, approval (and guarantees) from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance for $2.9 billion will allow the Indonesian Ministry of Defense to negotiate with foreign lenders to obtain loans for the purchase of a second batch of Rafale aircraft.
It is reported that another $734.5 million of guarantees from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance are intended to seek loans to finance the purchase of 12 Mirage 2000-5 fighters (nine single-seat Mirage 2000-5EDA and three double-seat Mirage 2000-5DDA), removed from service with the Qatar Air Force in connection with their replacement with Rafale fighters purchased by Qatar.
These Qatari Mirage 2000-5 fighters, built in 1997-1998 and in good technical condition, attracted the attention of a number of potential buyers - in particular, at one time the Indian Air Force was negotiating their purchase, but did not reach an agreement on financial and intra-Indian bureaucratic reasons. In November 2021, it was announced that an agreement had been reached on the acquisition of these aircraft by the French private company Ares, which intended to provide them on a contract basis to provide combat training services to customers (in particular, the company already had a contract with the French Navy), but in the end the deal also failed. took place. In August-September 2022, it was reported that Bulgaria was interested in acquiring or leasing these fighters as a "temporary"Mirage 2000-5 by Indonesia now looks the most likely.

$66 million each. For a used fighter designed in the 1970s. That is outrageous.

Another $17m would've got them the best 4th generation fighter jet on the Planet, but unfortunately Indonesia is America's footstool. Btw, the F-15's they're buying from the US cost $386m each.lancelot wrote:$66 million each. For a used fighter designed in the 1970s. That is outrageous.

IIRC Vietnam bought its su-30mk2 for 45 million each.
Egypt paid it mig-29M gor something like 50 million.
66 million for mirace is a joke. They must be at the end of their life so they will soon need some 10 million per aircraft for refurbishement.

Re: Indonesian National Armed Forces
This is part of the colonial system being run by the west... they are not paying 66 million for an old fighter plane... they are buying up the wests old stuff so the west can buy the new stuff, but what Indonesia gets is continued access to lucrative western markets for their goods and services... where they are tiny players in games dominated by huge western companies of no fixed abode to avoid paying normal or acceptable levels of tax anywhere.

Entry into force of the final tranche of 18 Rafale for Indonesia
(Saint-Cloud, January 8, 2024) – The final tranche of 18 Rafale for Indonesia came into force today. It follows the entry into force, in September 2022 and August 2023, of the first and second tranches of 6 and 18 Rafale, thus completing the number of aircraft on order for Indonesia under the contract signed in February 2022 for the acquisition of 42 Rafale.
“In choosing the Rafale, Indonesia has opted for a unique tool for sovereignty and operational independence that will help consolidate its role as a major regional power. This choice also consolidates ambitious industrial and academic cooperations. We are fully committed to making this partnership a success, with a resolutely long-term vision,” said Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation.

Was going to say they got them cheaper than India because India paid 8.4 billion for 36 aircraft and Indonesia are getting 42 aircraft for 7 billion, but I suspect the Indian purchase included weapons and support contracts etc etc.
Still... it is a very expensive aircraft... I wonder what threats they applied to get them to buy such turkeys?
All their sales of this amazing aircraft seem to be smash and grab attacks, if it is so damn amazing you would think they would insist on sales based on merit.

The US threatened Indonesia with CAATSA basically. That they would freeze their SWIFT bank transfers like they did to Iran and Russia.GarryB wrote:Was going to say they got them cheaper than India because India paid 8.4 billion for 36 aircraft and Indonesia are getting 42 aircraft for 7 billion, but I suspect the Indian purchase included weapons and support contracts etc etc.

Indonesia had already been shafted by Uncle Sam when they forbade them from getting upgrades for their F-16s. They did not allow them to buy the F-15 either. So Indonesia ended up buying Flankers from Russia. There were attempted deals by Indonesia to buy more Flankers later on with barter deals, because of CAATSA you couldn't do SWIFT bank transfers to buy Russian weapons anymore, but it was difficult to setup a deal that both parties agreed on.
Buying expensive French Rafales is basically their way of protesting the US action in attempting to interfere with their military procurement.
