Think St P makes most sense as a bid.
But the Olympic movement sadly seems very diseased especially with the "Washington Disease".

Yekaterinburg/the Urals. I think their plan is the World Expo Fair bid. Needs to beat Osaka. Failing that they should get it next time, perhaps?

Sochi is prob a little small for an Olympics. But who knows? It could sustain lots of accommodation and
a bid might help it develop infrastructures even further. I'm not sure how it might fare vs megacity bids though?

Vladivostock might grow enormously over coming decades. Maybe with massive casino/tourist development and facilities to bring in visitors from China, Japan and Korea it COULD become a bidder at some point. There is a population of HUNDREDS of millions not that far away! Maybe its a little too earlier to think of that though.

2018 European Championships become Russian swimming team’s most successful ever

The swimming competition in Glasgow ended on Thursday with women’s 4x100m medley relay event, which Russia won

GLASGOW /UK/, August 10. /TASS/. Russia’s national swimming team has shown its best European Championships performance ever during this year’s event in Glasgow, beating the previous record set by Soviet Union swimmers.

The swimming competition in Glasgow ended on Thursday with women’s 4x100m medley relay event, which Russia won. Anastasia Fesikova, Yulia Efimova, Svetlana Chimrova and Maria Kameneva finished the distance with the result of 3 minutes 54.22 seconds and the advantage of 2.47 seconds over the Danish swimmers, who took the silver clocking 3 minutes 56.69 seconds.

It was Russia’s tenth gold at the tournament. In total, Russia won 26 medals (ten gold, ten silver and six bronze medals) in the competition, held as part of the inaugural multi-sport European Championships.

This is the biggest number of gold medals ever won by swimmers at a European competition in the history of modern Russia, and Russia’s best overall performance in terms of medals won. Previously, the national team’s most successful European Championships took place in 1981, when Soviet swimmers won 24 medals - ten gold, seven silver and seven bronze.

Russia’s team tops medal standings of 2018 European Championships

Russia secure trophy for top spot with 31 gold medals.

Russia’s national team tops the overall medals standings of the 2018 European Championships, with 66 medals.

Russia has won 31 gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze medals to be awarded the European Championships Trophy, a 650mm tall and 400mm wide cup on a 22-carat gold footing.

Second is Britain’s team, with 71 medals, of which 24 are gold, 25 are silver, and 22 are bronze.

Six sets of medals are yet to be contested at the championships but it is obvious already now that Britons will not be able to challenge Russia’s lead.

The 2018 European Championship is the first multi-sport event uniting different European championships and is held between August 2 and 12 in Scotland’s Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as in Germany’s Berlin.

The European multi-event championship include competitions in such sports as swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, track cycling, road cycling, mountain biking, BMX, rowing and triathlon, artistic gymnastics, athletics, diving, golf.

The Russian figure skater scored 237.50 points after the short program and free skating

    Russia Sports News: - Page 16 1217263

SAITAMA, March 22. /TASS/. Russia’s famous figure skater Alina Zagitova won gold on Friday in ladies singles competition at the 2019 ISU World Championship, which is currently underway in Japan’s Saitama.

The Russian figure skater scored 237.50 points on the aggregate after the short program and free skating. Kazakhstan’s Elizabet Tursynbaeva took the silver with the result of 224.76 points and the bronze went to Russia’s Yevgeniya Medvedeva (223.80 points).

"I want to thank my coaches and everyone who helped me and my coaches for their support," Zagitova told journalists after winning the World Championship’s gold. "My friends and relatives also rendered great support."

"I was expecting a warm welcome here," she continued. "This is simply an unparalleled audience and its support helped me to perform my jumps."

On Wednesday, the panel of jurors awarded Zagitova with 82.08 points for her short program. The next best result was shown by Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto (76.86 points). Kazakhstan’s Elizabet Tursynbaeva was 3rd with 75.96 points.

In addition to the gold of the 2019 ISU World Championship, Zagitova, 16, is the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics gold medalist in singles and the silver medalist in team event.

Zagitova is now the first Russian female figure skater to win all awards in ladies singles competitions as she is also the winner of the 2018 European Championships in Moscow and the gold medalist of the 2017-2018 Grand Prix Final in Nagoya.

Medvedeva, who showed 4th best result after the short program on Wednesday (74.23 points), is two-time Olympic silver medalist, two-time world champion, two-time European champion and two-time Grand Prix Final champion.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), told TASS he was extremely happy with the gold and bronze medals of the Russian female figure skaters.

"I want to congratulate our marvelous female figure skaters with their successful performance at the World Championship," Pozdnyakov said. "Our athletes have once again demonstrated their highest level of skills and artistry with the spirit for victory above everything."

"One can only imagine how tough it was for them to skate in Japan with all this serious competition, considering the popularity of figure skating in Japan and the strength of Japanese figure skaters," Pozdnyakov stated. "I only guess, how hard it was for them during the trainings for the championship."

The 2019 ISU (International Skating Union) World Skating Championships is hosted by Japan’s Saitama between March 20 and 24.

ROC honorary president suggests celebrating Soviet Olympics anniversary

Vitaly Smirnov believes that the celebrations marking the anniversary will show how Russia is using the legacy of major sports events

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee Vitaly Smirnov came out with an offer on Wednesday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1980 Summer Olympic Games in Moscow.

"June next year will mark 40 years since the Moscow Olympics. In spite of a boycott from the former US president, the Games had colossal success, our guests marveled the sports and other facilities built by that time," he noted.

"An unprecedented for the Soviet Union number of guests flocked to our county, there were athletes from all five continents among the winners of the Olympics, as well as representatives from all Soviet republics," he went on to say. "There are winners and medalists of the Moscow Olympics among the current members of the Olympic family," he said, mentioning Enzo Gamba and IAAF President Sebastian Coe as an example.

Celebrations marking the anniversary of the Soviet Olympic Games will show how Russia is using the legacy of major sports events, Smirnov emphasized.

"Using the Olympic legacy is a serious problem in the world practice. Many sports facilities from previous Olympic Games have fallen into disrepair," he explained. Smirnov believes that celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary "will show how carefully and attentively the new sports facilities used at the FIFA World Cup are maintained and reconstructed".

Smirnov expressed confidence that the idea to celebrate the date "will be supported by the international committee, and a host of people will want to come".

"This will be a tremendous success and will showcase the role of sports in our country, in particular in Moscow and St. Petersburg," said Smirnov, who is also honorary member of the International Olympic Committee.

"At a ceremony to celebrate the anniversary, we can show, given the technical abilities, fragments from the opening and closing ceremonies of former Olympic games. All this will be an excellent holiday if we opt for this. It will take place ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games, and the presence of the world’s sports society will give us an opportunity to once again show the attitude to sports in our country," he summed up.

President Vladimir Putin backed the idea. "It is a good idea," the president said. He instructed the Sports Ministry and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin "to support the idea of Vitaly Georgievich [Smirnov]".

The 1980 Summer Olympic Games were held in Moscow, in the then Soviet Union, between July 19 and August 3.

Russia’s Yekaterinburg wins bid to host 2023 Summer Universiade

The bid was represented by Russia's top brass

MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) has chosen Russia’s Urals city of Yekaterinburg to host the 2023 Summer Universiade.

The decision was announced at the FISU Executive Committee’s meeting in Italy’s Naples.

Yekaterinburg’s bid was represented by Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev, Rector of the Urals Federal University Viktor Koksharov and Head of the Sergei Seyranov.

Russia will host the Summer Universiade for the second time following the competitions held in Kazan in 2013. Back during the USSR (1973), Moscow hosted the Summer Universiade. In March 2019, Russia held the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.

The Summer Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival, which is staged every two years in a different city. The name of the international sports event is a combination of two words - ‘University’ and ‘Olympiade.’

It is only second to the Olympic Games. The program of the Summer Universiade currently includes 18 sports: Basketball, Water Polo, Volleyball, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Athletics, Table Tennis, Swimming, Diving, Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Archery, Tennis, Football, Taekwondo, Fencing, Shooting and Sailing.

The 2019 Summer Universiade is due to be held in Naples from July 3 to 14, and in 2021 the event will be hosted by China’s Chengdu.

Alexandra Trusova, 15, becomes first woman to land three quadruple jumps

Alexandra Trusova established herself as the world’s leading female figure skater … in her first senior international competition.

Trusova, the 15-year-old, two-time world junior champion from Russia, became the first woman to land three quadruple jumps in one international competition program, posting the world’s highest free skate and total scores on the early season.

Trusova previously landed three quads in the free skate at the Russian Federation’s test skates in early September.

She opened Saturday’s free skate with a quadruple Lutz, a quadruple toe loop-triple toe combination and another quad toe to run away from Japanese Olympian Kaori Sakamoto by 44.27 points.

She won a lower-level event in Slovakia with 238.69 points, which would have beaten Japan’s top skater, Rika Kihira, and Olympic bronze medalist Yevgenia Medvedeva by more than 14 points at an event last week in Canada. However, judging panels can be more or less forgiving from event to event.

Still, Trusova established herself as a force going into next month’s Grand Prix season. She will face Kihira and Medvedeva at Skate Canada the last week of October.

NATO is resorting to dirty sports politics again to humiliate Russia Rolling Eyes

IAAF rules to keep in force membership suspension of All-Russia Athletics Federation

MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has ruled to keep in force the membership suspension of the All-Russia Athletics Federation (RusAF), Rune Andersen, the head of the IAAF Taskforce Group, said on Monday.

The decision was made at the IAAF Council Meeting in Doha today and it means that Russian track and field athletes will be taking part in the 2019 IAAF World Championship, which is hosted by Qatar between September 27 and October 6, in the status of the Authorized Neutral Athlete (ANA).

Speaking at a news conference after the Council’s meeting, Andersen stated that today’s decision was influenced by a statement from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding suspected inconsistencies in the data retrieved from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory.

"We are aware of the allegations of manipulation of the data and that an investigation is ongoing," Andersen stated addressing a news conference. "In the light of that TF [Taskforce Group] recommended that RusAF not be reinstated and the IAAF Council unanimously agreed."

WADA announced earlier in the day that it initiated a fast-track probe into the compliance status of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) with the Code of the world’s governing anti-doping body based on the reported inconsistencies discovered in the data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory. WADA also informed the Russian side that it had a three-week time to provide explanations on the issue.

Andersen also said that Russia has repaid the IAAF all debts, which was one of the requirements for RusAF’s membership reinstatement.

RusAF President Dmitry Shlyakhtin said earlier in the day addressing the IAAF Council that the Russian governing body of track and field athletics had repaid the IAAF a debt of $3.2 million.

The IAAF suspended RusAF’s membership in November 2015, following a wave of anti-doping rules violations and formed a special mission on the issue. The IAAF Taskforce Group, led by Norwegian expert Rune Andersen, was set up to oversee Russia’s implementation of requirements for RusAF’s membership reinstatement with the IAAF.

However, the IAAF permitted clean athletes from Russia to participate in the international tournaments under the neutral status or the Authorized Neutral Athlete (ANA) until the membership of the RusAF was reinstated. The ANA status prohibits Russian athletes from participating under the national flag.

The IAAF Doping Review Board approved on December 18, 2018 an updated version of the Guidance Note for Authorized Neutral Athlete (ANA) status applications and sent the document to the RusAF.

The RusAF started accepting neutral status applications from national track and field athletes on December 19, 2018. The world’s governing athletics body has already granted neutral-status participation permits to 128 Russian track and field athletes.

WADA’s work at Moscow Anti-Doping Lab

Specialists from WADA were granted access to the database of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory in January this year and copied 24 terabytes of information on Russian athletes’ doping samples collected between 2012 and 2015. WADA experts finished their work to retrieve doping samples from the Moscow Lab on April 30 having collected 2,262 doping samples in 4,524 containers (Samples A and B).

The WADA Executive Committee reinstated the compliance status of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) on September 20, 2018 on condition that WADA experts would be granted access before December 31, 2018 to doping samples at the Moscow Anti-Doping Lab, which was sealed off in connection with a federal investigation.
