This doesn't look like the Essen. The last photos of the ship from a few months ago showed it being almost complete, with mast and all.George1 wrote:"Admiral Essen" started mooring trials

the article says about Essen. Don't give any importance to the photo, it might be old

Yeah I saw that. Telling that the design and construction of a new class of missile boat would be necessary vs. waiting out the time to procure new engines for project 11356. Bit of a set-back for the BSF.
Safe to assume the sixth frigate won't be laid down. I'm wondering about the Butakov and Istomin... I assume they'll eventually be finished, though they've got to be looking at a five-year delay.

Great news!
The idea about selling those 3 to India and that way avoiding the Ukrainian ban on defence sales to Russia was a decent one, but it had 3 problems:
1). India does want more Grigoroviches.. but only if it can build them itself and it's made that clear already. India is right now adopting a policy of localization and expansion of domestic defence industries via the 'Build in India' program. The export of 3 extra Russian-built Grigorovichs to them, the same class as they themselves fingered for localization - would be untimely.
2). Russia would be left w/o 3 Grigoroviches and would need a stopgap until the 22800s are in service. Essentially it would need a stopgap or it would face a hole in its capabilities between now and then. Seeing as the Grigoroviches are themselves a stopgap for the Gorshkovs, Russia would have simply run straight out of stopgaps and would have been left with nothing.
3). The power units from the Ukraine would have been ordered in this case, and this of course means money for the Ukrainian defence industry - which is something that Russia should avoid at all cost. How are their industries supposed to collapse if we keep finding customers abroad for them no less?

Read today that the design was finalized for the 22800, but it will be 2018 before production starts or launched... translation escaped me.

I have not seen the actual specs for the 22800 so far... only rumors. That article just mentions that the designs have been finalized, what they are have not been shown yet. We will have to wait and see.

Yeah I found that strange too, 22800 will be a different class for sure
But that's what George's link said a few posts back:
https://translate.google.com/translate?depth=2&hl=en&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20150701/1107232491.html
I think the Gorshkovs will ulimately fill the frigate roll; AFAIK that's still the plan. 22800s might just be used to give extra firepower to the BSF.

I cannot get why 800t class? without ASW and with little of AAD capabilities? Then why not 22160 corvettes ? BSF w/o frigates has nothing to send to Mediterranean or on even longer assignments. OKI probably I am dumb so let´s wait and see

Who is building the testing and assembly stand, though, that's the most important question.
The "hot" part of M70FR and M90FR have always been built in Russia, the gearbox in Ukraine. But the most cruicial part: testing and assembly, has always been in Nikolayev.
Are they going build a test bench in Rybinsk?

I have no idea dude, I just post the stuff I find online.
But if they are going to make their own stuff from now on, they will have to build everything they might need, test bench included. No other way around it...

I did not investigate why on all forums I could find that 12800 is evolution of 12300 but if true 800t corvette is a boat of Buyan
