The idea is this: given that the T-62 is a further development of the T-55 tank, it has the same layout, and it used the same components and assemblies as on the T-55 tank. Well, the T-55 is the T-54 with anti-nuclear protection and nothing more.

Here is the answer to the question why the T-54 was dragged from Arsenyev: they were taken to cannibalize. Yes, the tanks are very old, but the same age as the T-62 in production - until 1974. And there is something to take from them: engines, transmissions, rollers, caterpillars, and so on ad infinitum.

During the Soviet–Afghan war the T-62 was the primary tank used by the Soviet army

They made a lot of sense in Afghanistan where tanks were just mobile gun platforms and the enemy had little to no armour at all.

There will be many situations where a mobile gun platform is needed to support infantry but does not need to engage enemy tanks because they don't have any there.

At the battle of Kursk the Germans used Tigers and Panthers as a spearhead to punch holes in the Soviet defences, while older weaker tanks followed through where their lighter armour didn't matter...

The number of upgrades that could be applied to older vehicles to keep them useful is enormous, but of course they are no substitute for modern vehicles... but they have lots of those too... and can send those where older platforms are not so useful.

I was confused by this image

A T62 chassis, with T90M turret? Is it photoshop?

How did they accomplish this modernization? Is it the same T62 turret with relikt armor fit to it?

A T-62M ate North Korean shells infected with a virus that mutates Soviet armor into misshapen monstrosities.

    This is the result.

    -ERA made for the T-90M
    -Aosna-U or PNM-T sight
-Has holes in the ERA of the turret where the T-90M's laser warning systems should be
-The T-90M's smoke grenade launchers and other systems are also present

    Is modification named T-62MV Obr. 2023 ??

    Or

    is it a photoshop?

Jokes aside, it is a rather crystal clear presentation of the capacity of the Russian tank repair business and the number of subsystems they managed to supply.
Ukrs managed to make some Kontakt-1 bricks for their own use and export and must have been producing them as some made in 2019, 20 and 21 were revealed on the battlefield.
However, the number of it was not big obviously, as one could spot single bricks at destroyed tanks. It was only combined with Soviet-originated ones, and was a clear minority - 1-2 per tank were spotted.
The conclusion is, that they don't use it for uparmoring L1s, as it is useless effort anyway.
On the other hand, Russkie can apply much, much more modern Relikt to an equivalently old species without much issues ...

The T-55AM3 and 4 and 5 upgrades included replacing the old turret with a T-72 type turret... it is easier to upgrade just replacing the turret if you want to use a 125mm smoothbore gun... they swapped the wheels and lengthened the hull and replaced the engine...
