I consider the Saudis and Iranians similar. Only thing that stands in the way is the Ayatollahs that makes the difference. Saudi King and the rest of the gov are as dirty as they come. I wouldn't be surprised if the deal between US and Saudi Arabia was a "scratch my back, and ill scratch yours" deal. It always is between these two. There isn't such a thing as mutual trade deals in the classic sense with them. Maybe Saudi Arabia is finally pushing to be the administration center for major oil groups and what not. Don't know who in their right mind would actually want to work their though.

You have to put things in perspective too...

If I export diamond rings and sell two rings for a million dollars each in one year, then comparing that to someone selling cheap rings for $150 each who sells ten thousand a year... am I really the bigger exporter of rings, or am I just making the most money?

I have seen dollar value comparisons but when the US oversells stuff to Arab countries who are actually buying protection then the numbers will always be wrong.

Was thinking something similar when I posted as I wondered what the total units delivered comparison would actually be?

The recent sales to Saudi have been not just at gold plated prices, but solid gold encrusted with jewels prices, which really must skew the numbers badly.

Of course to get the US and west to look the other way with what they are doing in Yemen they needed some way of paying big money into a few peoples pockets...

IIRC, they don't even list Chinese companies (because they don't have enough information available on them, or something), which already makes it a joke.

Yeah, what exactly are even included in those Saudi and other Arab arms deals? The amounts (of dollars) are insane. Star destroyers? 10,000 Abrams? 1000 F-35s? I'm honestly crious. How do Saudis even keep that shit operational? (Yeah, I know the answer: they don't.)

The Vesti 24 TV channel posted a very interesting interview with Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Kozhin on the MTC of Russia. A number of his theses are of unconditional interest.

So, it is reported that the cost of deliveries in 2017 was 15 billion $, the cost of signed contracts was 16 billion $, the portfolio of orders reached 45 billion $. But it seems that the most interesting is relateds to the geography and structure of deliveries:
50% of the portfolio of orders falls on the region of the Middle East and North Africa, followed by China and India.
Over 50% - aircraft, 20% - ground forces, 10% - air defense and navy.



The main sensation: India in 2017 is on the fifth (!) Position on the volume of Russian arms exports.

And one more important point. The PRC now accounts for 6.5 billion $ of Russia's contractual obligations out of a total of 45 billion (14.44%). These are supplies of S-400 missiles, Su-35 fighters, Be-200 and Be-103 aircraft, Mi-171, Ka-32A11BC and Ansat helicopters, aircraft engines and R&D.

According to SIPRI estimates, India, for example, in 2013-2017, bought 62% of weapons from Russia, and 15% - from the United States. For Egypt, these figures were 21% and 26% respectively. For Iraq, 22% and 56%. For Pakistan, 12% and 5.7%. For Bangladesh - 16% and 4.9%. For Kuwait, 3.3% and 88%. For Afghanistan, 27% and 59%. As noted in SIPRI's latest annual report on the relevant topic, "arms sales are often used by the US as a foreign policy tool to create new strategic partnerships." As an example, analysts point to an increase in sales of US arms by 557% between 2008-2012 and 2013-2017 "as part of the US efforts to compensate for China's growing influence in Asia and Oceania."

There is news recently about Russia becoming the 2nd largest arms producer in the world, but isn't it already in 2nd place for many years now? Are journalists simply not doing their research before publishing something or is it just part of the ongoing anti Russia smearing campaign?

Russian defense companies in Defense News rating

The American edition of Defense News published a regular rating of the 100 largest military-industrial companies in the world (Top 100) for 2019, based on revenues from sales of military products by global manufacturers in 2018. Only two Russian companies were included in the fresh rating - Concern EKR Almaz-Antey JSC, which moved from eighth to 15th place, and Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, which is located in 25th place. The same rating for 2018 was also attended by United Aircraft Building Corporation PJSC (14th place), Russian Helicopters JSC (36th), NPK Uralvagonzavod JSC (46th) and Concern Radio Electronic Technologies "(48th).



The top four rankings were American companies Lockheed Martin (defense production $ 50.536 billion), Boeing (3.4050 million dollars), Northrop Grumman ($ 25.3 billion) and Raytheon ($ 25163 million). For the first time, the Chinese state-owned aircraft manufacturing corporation AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) entered the list and immediately ranked fifth with a total of $ 24.902 million defense sales. Two more Chinese state-owned companies - China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (8th ) and China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (10th place).

It was the appearance of Chinese giant state-owned military-industrial companies, which immediately occupied high positions, for the first time in this rating, and partly caused the downward movement and dropout from the "first hundred" and some Russian defense-industrial companies. Nevertheless, the absence of a number of large Russian corporations (such as UAC) looks strange.

In 2019, the Ukrainian Ukroboronprom group of companies also completely dropped out of the rating, in 2018, it took 72nd place with sales of $ 873.45 million.

China's orders are extremely thin compared to russias in exports. And that is were the revenue is.

So I believe someone is overstating value here.

Well we should see their sales increase significantly now that countries realise that US bought air defences and European bought air defences are not so much use against a combination of drones and cruise missiles...

I suspect Pantsir sales to increase dramatically very soon...
