Would be good, but the trick here is that the planes are a bargain and solve a problem for MiG, which had these airframes lying around. Most probably they are not valid for MiG-35 (different structure) and then Russia could not sell the -35 so cheap, so India would not buy so lightly. An isolated contract but great news both for India and Russia regardless.Isos wrote:This is the occasion to sell mig-35. They should say production of mig-29 is stoped and the factory is optimized for mig-35.

India and Russia will sign an agreement on the joint production of Kalashnikovs for $ 1.7 billion
Delhi. The 14th of February. Interfax-AVN - Delhi and Moscow are expected to sign an agreement on Friday on the joint production of 750 thousand Kalashnikov AK-203s for a total of $ 1.7 billion at a weapons company in Corva, Uttar Pradesh, the newspaper reported The Economic Times, citing sources in the government of India.
It is expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch the project on February 28, the newspaper notes. The project will be implemented within the framework of a joint venture of the Kalashnikov Concern and the Council of India’s weapons factories.
At the same time, according to Defense News, a batch of 50,000 AK-203 units will be transferred to India immediately after signing the agreement to meet the urgent need of its army for machine guns.

Decks cleared for India-Russia JV to make 700,000+ AK-103/203 assault rifles at Kalashnikov-OFB facility in Korwa, U.P. Inter-Gov Agreement to be signed quietly soon, @PMOIndia likely to make big reveal at election rally. Our report with details last year:
Wasn't there a recent post about a contract for an M16 based rifle being licence produced in India to solve their small arms problems?
ie:

India buys automatic rifles SIG Sauer SIG716
According to Indian media, at the end of January 2019, Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sithamaran approved 72400 SIG Sauer SIG716 automatic rifles (version SIG716 G2 Patrol) for the Indian army, patronized by NATO 7.62 x 51 mm. The procurement cost is estimated at about $ 72 million. The rifles will be purchased by the Ministry of Defense of India under the so-called accelerated procedure (Fast Track Procedure - FTP) with delivery within 12 months from the date of signing the contract (which is expected to be signed in mid-February) directly from the manufacturer - American company SIG Sauer Inc. (since 2000, the American SIG Sauer Inc. is a separate company from the German SIG Sauer GmbH, and the latter is no longer a manufacturer of small arms).

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
That was years ago, times have changed! They r expensive, not proven in India, & there will be no technology transfer. Hence this tender.

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
They did decide on Rafales, but the French screwed them.
They were going to cost rather more than 25 billion (the contract was for 10 billion), and there was not going to be very much in the way of technology transfer as they demanded...
I rather thought at the time that they wanted the MiG-35 in the competition to get the French to give away their secrets, but they rejected the aircraft claiming the Rafale was better.
Well now they are dropping the Rafale after buying 36 for something like 5-6 billion and are now getting production licence for the MiG-35... at the time I suggested a half and half purchase of the MiG and the Rafale.... as they are basically replacing their MiG-29 and MiG-21 and MiG-27s, and also their Jaguar and Mirage 2000s, with the MiG-35 and Rafale respectively...
Wonder what MiG-35 the Indians will be getting.... most of the MiG-35 was funded by the Russian AF so it is likely a lot of stuff will have to be replaced in the indian model with Thales and Israeli stuff no doubt...

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
They bought 36 Rafales, but there is still and ongoing tender for 110 planes, in which MiG-35s is participating. And from the CAG report, it seems the plane passed the state requirements of the tender where Rafales were bought, so it is in principle possible that it may be selected. Rafale is a very nice plane but France is completely exaggerating the prices (or there is something murkier below the surface) and ToT seems not to be what it should. In contrast, HAL has got a lots of know-how and work load from the Su-30 MKI program, which continues to deliver and is set to reach almost 300 planes. Russian side is way less restrictive and dependent from US and potential price of the -35 probably way cheaper. It will be IMO a political decision and highly dependent on forthcoming elections.

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
Nice... and as an added bonus they should be able to make the new RPK-16s on the same tooling in the calibre they want...
Nice.
Wonder if they will make them in 7.62x39mm only or if they will make them in 5.56mm as well.
They are also buying some western rifles too so they might be using them for the 5.56mm requirement.

Glad you've never heard of how horrible the INSAS is. But now you know.
It was baaaaad.
But that is behind India now.
Now, if India fucks up the most unfuck-upable rifle in the world, we have now seen everything in the universe!

Given the latest incident between India and Pakistan, looks like India is one of those countries that they are not compromised from the hardware they possess, but from the way they use it. Now hysterically rush to sign contracts, which indicates to me that they haven't understand anything.

It has nothing to do with the tensions with pakistan. They want nuk subs since long time. One akula is not enough to patrol around their coast and keep an eye on Chinese new carrierd that coming very fast.
IMO russia should have sold more of them instead of leasing only two. India will turn west for its own subs and the market will be closed forever. A special indian version of Yasen with akula's caracteristics would be perfect to be sold. This way india will stay a big russian client for at least 40 years (training facilities, repairs, upgrades ...)

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
Was reading the Russian press release yesterday. It says, "Around 170 military and production facilities have been launched in India with the help of our country.”
170 ???? Seriously??? Russia has launched 170 military and production facilities in India ? ? ?
That sounds like Kremlin is launching more military and production facilities in India than in Russia itself.

That article they mention the 7.62mm round is NATO grade... there is no NATO standard 7.62x39mm ammo...
Perhaps if they want it to work better at 400m they should reduce the bullet weight to 100 grain and boost the powder charge to send it down range at higher velocity...

Re: RUSSIA - INDIA Military Contracts
Russia signed a contract for the overhaul and partial modernization of six IL-78MKI tankers delivered to India in the early 2000s. Under the terms of the agreement, which is estimated at $ 80 million, Russian specialists will replace all the engines and extend the service life of the machines. In parallel to India, new Il-78M-90 type tankers are being proposed, the development of which is being conducted in the interests of the aerospace forces of Russia (VKS).

India has made lots of claims to agreements or clearing ways to purchase from Russia, to sit idle for years then cancel plans. So take this with some grain of salt:

Nah, the T-90s will likely will all get procured. They liked T-90s before they were forwardly deployed in Syria, and after their performance they loved them even more....there isn't a reason to think that the contract would flounder before being completed, and besides Arjun has completely septic tanked as an alternative option.

Lol.....No deal has been cancelled except 5th Gen that too will india buy after its in serial production in Russian air force and has matured
Export of Russian tanks to India
The first contract for selling T-90 tanks to India was signed in 2001. The Uralvagonzavod corporation was to provide 124 finished vehicles and another 186 assembly kits for the Indian Defense Ministry.
In 2004, Russia and India concluded a contract for the licensed production of one thousand T-90 tanks. Three years later they signed an agreement on the supply of another 124 finished vehicles and another 223 assembly kits.
In 2017, India agreed to prolong the tank production license. The deputy chief of Russia’s federal service for military technical cooperation, Vladimir Drozhzhov, told TASS that Russia was prepared to "meet any request from the Indian partners regarding the production or supply of T-90S tanks."
