Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
Technically the title should be Russian Navy sinks pirate ship... I rather doubt there were any pirates on board during this sinking.
I suspect after the evidence has been taken from the boat and the pirates arrested and dealt with that their boat will be destroyed as part of the punishment... much the same as a drug runners plane would be confiscated if it was used to smuggle drugs.
Of course there is not much the Russian Navy could do with such a boat so instead of holding an auction in the middle of the ocean they sink it so that it does not become a navigation hazard. If they have to sink it, they might as well brush up on their target practice.
If they don't intend to prosecute the pirates (sometimes it is simply too complicated to bother with) then they can let them go, but they could use the Pirates weapons to sink the boat or simply throw the weapons and equipment overboard to prevent it being used again for piracy.
Is interesting to see the 100mm guns and the 30mm cannons used in what appears to be manual mode firing at a surface target.

Oh so, they packed the ship up of prisoner-pirates, let it drift a couple meters, got some videos, pulled it, retrieved prisoner-pirates, let it drift a couple meters, than sank it?

No one knows, Somali elders say the crew of a boat engaged by Russia was never heard from again. That might be it.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
I think it would be rather more likely that the Russians seized the high speed motor boats the pirates used for their attacks and put them in life rafts and sank the high speed motor boat.
If they really were fishermen then they could have navigated by the stars to get back home.
If they were not fishermen then who knows where the currents took them.
Reportedly the Somali pirate hired a lawyer who claims the Russian Navy shot all the pirates and threw them into the sea... of course if no one has seen the bodies since then how would they know what happened to them?

The Sprut might be used in the VDV and for the Marines, and perhaps even the medium brigades
I've heard in a different forum that Sprut production has been canceled by the MoD? can you clarify on this?

Sprut is based on the BMD-3 Chassis... note the D as opposed to the much heavier BMP-3 chassis.
Its purpose is a light mobile amphibious tank that can be used by airborne forces and by naval infantry forces as a light tank.
The thing is that they have decided to develop a new brigade structure with different weight class families of vehicles based on new designs.
The heavy brigade will of course have a T-90AM tank initially as its tank vehicle and I think for the moment T-90/T-72 chassis based vehicles to operate with those tanks makes sense because of the available chassis, so a T-90/-72 based APC (BTR-T) and artillery (MSTA) and air defence vehicle (T-90/-72 chassis and Pantsir-S1 turret) etc etc will likely be created.
For the medium brigades a more heavily armoured BMP-3M will likely fit the role initially, but eventually heavy tracked and wheeled IFVs are being developed for this role... kurganets-25 and boomerang are temporary names for these new vehicles... likely the Kurganets-25 will be a 25 ton class tracked BMP-3 replacement... perhaps the official BMP-4?, while the Boomerang will be a 25 ton class wheeled vehicle to replace the BTR-82/80/etc series vehicles.
In the light brigades there will be a range of vehicles that are likely to be air mobile and amphibious and include MRAP vehicles like the Volk and Tigr-M and larger vehicles too.
I rather suspect that when the Army forces are rolling around in these new families of vehicles that the VDV and Russian naval infantry don't want to be rocking around in a BMD-3.
I think (and I have nothing to back this up BTW... this is purely my opinion) that a Sprut type vehicle is needed for the VDV and RNI and might be useful in some roles where speed and firepower are more important than protection, or where heavier vehicles cannot operate.
They have rejected the Sprut for production because it has an old obsolete chassis and most likely when the new family vehicle enters service that performs the same role as the BMD-3 that there will be a model with a 125mm main gun mounted on it.
The Spruts in service will likely be kept and used, but when the new model vehicles become available you will see one with a Sprut like turret, though it might have better sensors/optics, and might have more armour on the turret with perhaps built in NERA and perhaps even an active protection system as well.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
Would be much better if you embed the vids...
When you create a new post look at the icons above and find the icon that looks like a filmstrip.
Find the Youtube vid you want to embed and copy its link and click on the filmstrip icon and paste the link into the textbox that appears and it should put a link on your page for the embedded video.
It should look like this:

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
This is an Mi-26 moving an An-26/32 light transport aircraft.
Don't know the full story but either the plane crashed and the helo is returning it to a nearby airfield, or the plane is unflyable and needed to be moved to somewhere where it could be repaired to flightworthy condition.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
Why do you think it is fake?
The Mi-26 is designed specifically to carry heavy loads internally and externally.
An empty An-26 light aircraft weighs 15 tons, which is 5 tons less than the normal max payload of the Mi-26 (20 tons payload capacity).
When it carries even heavier planes like the Tu-134 which has an empty weight of almost 28 tons you will notice they have removed parts like the outer wing and horizontal tail surfaces and the three engines normally fitted to the tail area:
You tell me if it can pick up a Tu-134 then why would a little old An-26 at 15 ton empty weight be too hard?
