That F-18vsSAM vid must be from some Hollywood movie... so many inaccuracies.
It launches from an MTLB based SA-13 system, yet the rocket motor seems to burn for 3 minutes or so... the missiles seem to match speed with the target yet those missiles accelerate to mach 2 in a few seconds and then start to slow down... we are talking about a rifle shot type interception where the missile will blow past the target a few seconds after launch... the missile will either get close enough to set off a proximity fuse or it will not detonate.
In this video not only did the missile appear to be dogfighting the target when it had the target finally lined up it set off some sort of claymore like directional warhead.
The thing is that if missiles acted that way then aircraft would be safe... with tiny control surfaces a missile flying at low speed could not out turn a modern fighter plane travelling at a similar low speed.
real missiles only need to whizz past like a bullet... getting within 5m or so to let their proximity fuses do the rest.
