I could see the VDV and the army getting plenty of use out of these toys, 10 of them could be airdropped and scout 2 km's ahead of the military units with the ability to prevent ambushes, carry extra equipment, act as supressive fire as well as few may discover hidden minefields without sacrificing one soldier.

Nice demo.
Pity we couldn't see it target and shoot.

Re: Russian Army Robots
That video is from 2013 (as can be seen from the large sign on the ground).
the upgrades seem to include Nakidka camo, and what appears to be a smaller gun... PKT instead of Kord.
I suspect the increased ammo capacity of the smaller calibre plus improved accuracy with reduced recoil likely contributed to the change.
I wonder if a change to 30mm or 40mm grenade launcher might be an option due to their improved firepower is possible/likely.
Would be interesting to see if they change the weapons options... certainly 7.62mm MG, 12.7mm MG, and auto grenade launcher cover the main bases of fire power.
Some sort of precision belt fed 12.7mm weapon would be another interesting option too where the vehicle could be commanded to go to high ground and be used as a sniper...

Re: Russian Army Robots
IIRC the media reported it could use Kord, PKT, and AGS-30.

Re: Russian Army Robots
I wonder what sort of propulsion it uses... I have heard comments about new all electric vehicles spending long periods on charge and not lasting very long in combat.
I would think some sort of hybrid design with a small motor to generate electricity if needed but also battery power for stealth.
Obviously diesel motors would be preferred with a diesel gas turbine being compact and efficient for generating electrical power...
Ideally there would be no direct drive diesel propulsion as that would require a transmission and gearing etc... just a gas turbine connected to a generator that can be directed directly to the wheels for locomotion, and also to the batteries to charge them in the field.

There was an announcement made by the Russians to the effect that some Russian military robots would follow some of the concepts used in the Russian marsokhod designs of the type shown in the following picture. It seems that the above robot is one of them.
One feature of some of these designs is that each wheel, other than the normal rotational and steering motions, can make hand/leg type walking motions too.

Russian Argo Amphibious Combat Robot
magnumcromagnon,
Now, this one looks more like that tiger shark.
I am sure the Russians have many different models of surface/subsurface amphibious combat robots too. They would be able to make stealthy approaches.

Re: Russian Army Robots
Actually the Russians should be really good at building robots... the first moon rover was Soviet...
And don't confuse looks with functionality... compared with sleek fighters some actually think Frogfoot and A-10 look ugly... the fools...

Say Hello To Comrade Terminator: Russia's Army of Killer Robots

It's kind of humorous report from forbes.
"[...]the military trotted out their “mobile robot complex” which is a fancy name for a robot guard dog—only with a lot more firepower."

Re: Russian Army Robots
Hilarious article... the US murders people around the world based on very suspect information gained from various questionable sources including torture using drones but the real fear is that Vladimir Putin might get control of killer robots...
Could he honestly be more dangerous than the US government currently is now?
I doubt it.
Obviously an attempt at comedy... what it doesn't realise is that the real comedy of the piece is irony and totally unintentional.
Seen waiting for a brunette with shiny red shoes so they can go see the great and powerful oz to get brains...

Only people who should be afraid of Russian robots should be the fanatics and bandits in Caucasus. Sheesh... What russophobia got all other meaning these days. They are actually afraid of Russia.

Interesting... PKT MG and likely four disposable rocket launchers... they look like RPG-26s... 72.5mm calibre rockets...

That's some serious fire power, now imagine 4 RPG-28's that have a 125mm rocket, or 4 RPG-30's, or 4 Kornet-EM's!

Imagine 4 RPO and 4 RPG 26, that would be serious against any light armored and anything living.

or latest model kornet, sort of like a mini krizanthema. eventually more advanced drones would replace atgm teams.Werewolf wrote:
