MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin greeted Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko on the Unity Day of the peoples of Russia and Belarus, the Kremlin’s press service said on Sunday.
In the telegram, the Russian president pointed to relevance of the Union State for Russians and Belarussians and hailed results of integrational cooperation in the political, trade-economic, scientific-technical, humanitarian and other spheres, achieved over more than two decades.
Putin also said the gained experience in joint work helps the countries in finding optimal solutions of any, even most complicated, issues, and favors further development of the mutually advantageous ties.
The Unity Day is celebrated on April 2. It is devoted to establishment of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. The countries signed an agreement on the Commonwealth between Russia and Belarus in 1996, and on the same date in 1997 they signed an agreement on the Union of Russia and Belarus.
