A pleasant thought... however, the Sauds are not bankrupt, and they could pull out on a whim, being nowhere near as heavy on the ground as the US or Soviets. Remember this war really was about internal political games to begin with... along with other stupid reasons for killing people such as boosting national pride.

No the Saudis can't pull out, no one in the Middle East will fight without the Saudis leading the charge, all have their own problems at home. The Saudis share a border with Yemen and who knows what Pandora's Box will be opened on Saudi soil if they just throw in the towel. Another reason why SA can't leave this fight in Yemen is because they will nearly surrounded by Iran and the Shiites if they do. Saudi Arabia is trying to do everything to contain Iran's rising power already. If you want further proof, look at Syria and ISIS functioning essentially as Saudi proxies in the war. This isn't a fight Saudi Arabia can just drop.

And if you think that Russia was hurt by the fall of oil prices, take a good hard look at the Saudi economy. The Saudi people are suffering at the hands of their own leaders. Shame that there won't be any revolution. This absolute Monarch is way too entrenched and has way too many allies. If any monarch deserves to go the way of the guillotine, it is the Saudi Royal Family. I personally hope that the Saudi king will have his own people's peasant's blood on his hands, wouldn't mind at all if the Saudis had their own Vietnam (far worse than Afghanistan) right next door.

Luckily, Russia has customers on both sides of this conflict, Book. Two glaring examples are the Egyptians and Iran.

This is a strong point no one should ever forget.....I mean the mere fact that ISIS is making no attempt to take control of Mecca is probably the most damning evidence against the medieval Saudi megalomaniacs. Are we supposed to believe ISIS wants to take over the entire Middle East, but only attacks Shiites affiliated with Iran while making no attempts at capturing Mecca LMAO??? Don't make me laugh!!!
