Fighting still continues at Staromikhailovka, this has been all day. Fighting with MGs, AGS etc at Putilovka and Spartak and sound of heavier weapons somewhere in general area Krasny Partizan, also occasional explosions heard at various places near the front around Donetsk. As a lot of residents have returned to Donetsk, 100,000 to 150,000, it is possible that this is a cynical attempt by Kiev to cause fear and so drive people back out and dissuade more from returning.

Who would of thought? The Director of the Ukrainian Literature Library in Moscow could be a Banderasite:

A search held inside the library on Wednesday afternoon exposed the presence there of a big number of publications with highly Russophobic contents. After the search, Sharina was taken for questioning to the Investigations Committee.

Why bother with such a library?  Shut it down and move all the books to the library under the Fiction section.

Fireworks Night (that's an English thing on 5th Nov) come early, that could be quite a bang!

Powerful explosions are again rocking the eastern Ukrainian city of Svatove, where a munition depot is currently on fire, local media reported Friday.

KIEV (Sputnik) – On Thursday, a military depot with over 3,500 tons of munition caught in a blaze in the Kiev-controlled city in the Lugasnk region. According to the local officials, the building was hit by two flare gun rounds.

"Very powerful explosions could be heard now. This has been taking place for 15 minutes," a reporter of the 112 Ukraina television channel said.

According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s preliminary information, two people died as a result of the incident.

The eastern Ukrainian region of Lugansk has been mired in fighting since 2014, when the Kiev-led government launched a military operation against the independence supporters in the region.

The conflicting sides have signed a ceasefire agreement in February, and are pulling back their weapons.

    Earlier report

KIEV (Sputnik) — According to Lugansk region governor Heorhiy Tuka, the fire at the depot in the Kiev-controlled city of Svatove started due to the flare gun rounds.

According to Yuriy Klymenko, deputy head of the Lugansk Regional Military-Civil Administration, the fire at the depot started around 19:30 local time (17.30 GMT) followed by a series of explosions that continue to rock the town.

"The depot stores over 3,500 tonnes of munitions. Explosions seriously complicate the efforts to put out the blaze," Klymenko said.

According to media reports, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has opened a criminal investigation into the incident on suspicion of "an act of terrorism."

Lugansk region governor Heorhiy Tuka told the 112 Ukraina television channel, "two flare gun rounds were launched, the servicemen have put out the first round but while they were extinguishing the fire, the second [round was launched]."

More from the 'we shot ourselves in the foot' department. The Interior Minister does not speak Ukrainian in a Government that only wants to speak that language. (forget the others who want to use English, because they don't either, for a moment).

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, one of the main architects of the crackdown on Ukraine's Russian language rights supporters after Ukraine's 2014 coup, has sued for the right to speak Russian in official statements after a court told him to provide translations into Ukrainian.

Avakov, who is from Kharkiv in Eastern Ukraine, where most of the population speak Russian as a first language, does not speak Ukrainian, but has been ordered by a Ukrainian court to use the language after a lawyer from Lviv sued the ministry over a Russian-language YouTube video. Lawyer Svyatoslav Litynskyy successfully sued the Interior Ministry for refusing to speak Ukrainian.

More on the explosive depot fire from Interfax. Three reports, latest first. Interesting is 2000 specialists clearing munitions from the town, must have been a big bang to scatter them. Then the TASS take on it. Bit of a blow to the UA, that was a lot of valuable and difficult to replace ordinance.

Head of Luhansk regional military-civilian administration Heorhiy Tuka has signed an order to allocate UAH 10 million to liquidate the aftermath of the explosions which occurred at a munitions depot in Svatove. "Order No. 524 was signed on October 30 under which UAH 10 million will be allocated from the regional budget to eliminate the aftermath of the emergency situation in the town of Svatove and provide relief aid to its victims," reads a post on the administration's Facebook account which was published on Friday afternoon.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said that the probable cause of the fire at the defense ministry's arsenal in Svatove, Luhansk region, was the activity of pro-Russian militants. "The causes and circumstances of the incident are now being determined. According to tentative information, the incident was a result of the actions taken by the enemy, who aim to destabilize the situation in the region," he said at a meeting of the Council of Reforms in Kyiv on Friday.
An ad hoc commission composed of the deputies of the defense minister, the deputy chief of the General Staff Armed Forces of Ukraine, and experts has been created to investigate the incident. "They have already started to work. The results of the investigation will be made public," he added. Poltorak also said that according to his information, four servicemen were injured in the fire, and one serviceman and one civilian, a local female resident, have died. The fire had already been localized, he said. Twenty groups of 100 mine clearance specialists were created to clear the town of unexploded ordinance, he added.

The number of people injured in the artillery depot fire near the town of Svatove in Luhansk region rose to eight by 11:00 local time on Friday, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff. "There are fatalities. Two people are dead. Four servicemen and four Svatove residents have been injured. They promptly received medical attention," says a report posted on the website of Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff spokesman in the Luhansk region Ruslan Tkachuk. According to preliminary information, nine five-storey buildings, six four-storey buildings and 20 three-storey buildings have been damaged. The scattering of shells started local fires last night. State Emergency Service crews and military units controlled and put out those fires.
Firefighting tanks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are engaged in the effort. State Emergency Service details are watering the tanks.
An operative staff involving representatives of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, law enforcement agencies, the State Emergency Service, and national and local self-government bodies has been set up in Svatove. "One hundred and eighteen patients of the Svatove district hospital, 100 residents of the local old people's home and 116 boarding school residents have been evacuated from the town. Twenty-nine servicemen have left the depot premises," the spokesman said.

KIEV, October 30. /TASS/. As many as 54 people were hurt in a series of explosions that followed a fire at a munitions depot in Svatovo, a city in the Kiev-controlled area in the eastern Ukrainian Luhansk region, the press service of the local administration said on Friday.
The fire at the depot holding about 3,500 shells for Grad, Smerch and Uragan multiple launch missile systems started on Thursday evening. The fire area is about 9,000 square meters. Several dwelling houses, a school and a gas pipeline were damaged in explosions.

Residents of Donetsk and particulary around Makeevka are reporting what sounds like artillery bombardment, very loud. It cannot yet be determined if a live firing exercise is taking place, and they are usually held at Mospino which is near Illovaisk, not Makeevka.

More fun in country 404. The leader of the party "Ukrop", Gennady Korban, has been arrested, and according to Boris Filatov, who is party boss in Dnepropetrovsk, SBU are conducting mass searches of premises of the party. http://112.ua/obshchestvo/sbu-zaderzhala-lidera-ukropa-korbana-v-ofisah-partii-prohodyat-obyski-filatov-268805.html
Not in that link, but other info says that Filatov has said that he will not give up Dnepropetrovsk and calls for action, perhaps they can join with pravy sektor and "Svoboda" and "Radikal", please......

Meanwhile, back in Kiev, open and democratic government continues

After coming after Russian-speaking activists, Ukraine's post-coup government arrested the head of a nationalist political party sponsored by one of his key political opponents. Ukraine's security service (SBU) arrested the leader of oligarch Igor Kolomoisky-funded UKROP party and Dnepropetrovsk mayoral candidate Gennady Korban on charges of organizing a criminal group on Saturday.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's allies and opponents have both called the arrest an act of political repression. Korban was a mayoral candidate in the Dnepropetrovsk mayoral elections on October 25, the results of which have still not been announced.

Poroshenko bloc member, Verkhovna Rada member Taras Batenko said that he would be leaving the bloc as a direct result of the arrest, which he called political repression. "Usurpation begins with disregard for public opinion and ends with the appearance of political prisoners. Today the government made a decisive step toward the beginning of a new dictatorship," Batenko wrote on his Facebook page.

While Ukraine continues police operations against Russian-speaking activists and advocates, this is the first time a Ukrainian nationalist party leader has been arrested by the post-coup government.

Korban's lawyers called his arrest a kidnapping because Ukraine's government has not provided them with information about the charges against him.

The SBU told media that Korban was arrested without charges, and that a court would decide his punishment. Ukraine's General Prosecutor's Office also did not say what charges Korban was facing, although it told media that the operation overall was pursuing cases for creating an organized crime group, embezzlement and kidnapping. It added that one Korban-tied group stole 40 million hryvnias ($1.7 million) from a fundraiser for pro-government militias in the Donbass region.

Before the October 25 elections, Korban was part of a vicious feud between him and Poroshenko ally Serhiy Berezenko in a parliamentary election marred with fraud and vote-buying.

This could be very interesting, given all the comments after the report was published, or a damp squib.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Dutch Safety Board (DSB) will hold public hearings to allow media outlets ask questions into the board’s MH17 crash findings on November 3, a Dutch lawmaker told Sputnik on Saturday.

The DSB’s final report into the July 2014 flight MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine, released in mid-October, said a surface-to-air missile exploded near the passenger aircraft’s left side.

"In parliament there was a confidential briefing by the DSB. After this briefing, the committee took the initiative to invite the safety board for a public hearing. This will take place on Tuesday November 3," the lawmaker, who wished to remain anonymous, said. The lawmaker, who provided an official convocation to the 2.5-hour briefing, said three DSB board members will be available to answer questions from the press.

The DSB said an additional forensic investigation is needed to establish the exact launch location of the missile.

Almaz-Antey, the Russian arms manufacturer that builds Buk missile systems, conducted a separate probe into the crash. It found that the missile that hit the plane could only have been launched by a Buk system located in the region of Zaroshchenske, controlled by Kiev forces at the time of the incident.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said after the DSB report it was planning to propose the board to resume its investigation with Russian participation.

A leader of the Ukrop party has been arrested by the Security Service of Ukraine as "a leader of an organized crime group." Dwellings of other Ukrop members in Dnipropetrovsk have been searched in a massive sweep by 500 SBU officers. This oligarchic party of Kolomoisky and Palytsia won the local elections in the Volyn Region with help of voter buying, and these oligarchs financed the Right Sector battalions. The arrest of Korban and searchers of other Ukrop members are most likely an attempt by Poroshenko to neutralize rivals, since there were for a long time numerous media reports about the involvement of the arrested leader of Ukrop in seizures of businesses and even more serious illegal activities. One of Ukrop leaders in Lutsk was involved in seizures of my house, land, and personal property with help of the local government and falsified court decisions

Poroshenko will look and see that if he does nothing then he has lost Donbass 100%, that is why he was going to attack last August/September before Merkel stopped him. If what happens now is another slow build up, then what can Merkel say that was not said before? I suspect not much more. I said before that in the final analysis it is up to Poroshenko, not Merkel or Washington, as despite their influence Poroshenko is not actually their slave. I think also too much weight is given to the diplomatic/political analysis as that depends on rationality, and we already saw from the very beginning that Kiev is not rational, and when it comes to the oligarchs business concerns and their ability to extract $, nothing else matters. These scum are rats that will fight to get out of a trap and will not give a frack about signatures on scraps of paper or what is told them by a puritan hausfrau or the clown masquerading as president in Washington. Wars happen because either a man like Hitler gets his hands on the levers of power in a country, or politics and diplomacy fail. Poroshenko is not Hitler, not even the ghost of a faded shadow of Hitler, so that leaves the politics and diplomacy, which are not working for Poroshenko, so I think we look at strong possibility of the Clausewitz solution.

Relax. El Porko will do what his masters tell him. These clowns are rational enough to obey orders.

The problem is that his masters have not given a damn, and have not been telling him off for much of anything. Only recently did Merkel deliver the message, but not seriously enough. What's needed is just to make sure that the message is delivered at regularly intervals and strongly enough, otherwise Porko and co. will start forgetting about it.
