You are correct. Palmyra and Qaratain have been two areas were SAA keeps failing to advance. Yet I expect this to be a personnel issue, i.e. lack of it. Somewhere in Syria there must be 3-4 of battalions of SAA under intensive "polite" training. We've seen how that made a difference in Latakia, where Salma could not be taken back for many months.
Suqur Al-Sahra mostly participated in Salma offensive with local NDF, near the border with Turkey troops are made of mostly NDF and Syrian Marine forces (didn't know they had those). Those are the guys which are equipped with Russian stuff, advanced body armor, helmets etc. Qaratain is better now SAA surrounded the town from 3 sides, and took all hills that overlook the town. But Palmyra is "Stuck in the sand".
Marines forces? Are they also called SEALs by Syrians? I saw a few twitter posts describing a formation of men like that.
Also the video you posted (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymWJJPdBmLU) reveals insurgents way too relaxed, parking column on a narrow road (when skies are full of UAVs) and men assembling in open field by the tens... these guys look like amateurs (not seasoned fighters).
PS. Great catch and work on geolocating via video. Belling cat is put to shame

Re: Syrian Civil War: News #5
Im still trying to verify that position trough latest sat imagery.
They called them naval infartry, formation is highly equipped and probably trained by Russian navy stationed on the coast.
Those guys are indeed fools for standing like that. Most of them came from Hama and Aleppo region as reinforcement. There they got away with this stuff especially during last failed SAA Hama offensive. They moved armor freely while counterattacking so they think they can do the same here, but it looks that's not the case here.

Syria crisis: Peace talks loom, but the warmongers won’t be at the table
It has been a week of bombings across the world, most of them carried out by Islamic State (Isis). Some were highly publicised because they took place in the centre of large cities and involved foreigners, such as the suicide bombing on 12 January close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in Istanbul which killed 10 people, nine of them German tourists. Two days later gunmen and bombers claiming allegiance to Isis killed two people in Jakarta in an attack that topped the international news agenda because it appeared to show that Isis has a frightening global reach. Furthermore, it took place in a city of 10 million people which is a media hub, ensuring that there were plenty of television cameras to record events.

Today SAA make further advances in Jabal Turkmen capturing: Bayt Iblaq, Jabal Kazbar, Jabal Sindiyan, Kandisiah, Al-Sukariyah & Al-Qabqaliyah.
This will get them near one of the main rebellion stronghold of Rabia.

Good catch, stamped ammo box reveals a lot. Turkey is running the war, deliveries are desperately needed, as their proxies are loosing all over.

Either that or it is in Turkey. The Turkish flag can be seen at 2:02 and the Red Crescent is also the emblem of Turkey.

It's a turkish RC-run camp (on the outside) located in Syria (Aleppo) and possibly next to the border line. Basically it's a "moderate" ammo dump and safe zone for insurgents. And this video will serve as evidence on Turkey's role in keeping this war alive.
same video analyzed by Kurds:

More MKE boxes (handled by IS) from last year:
Support the PKK and the fucking Kurds, that are fighting against Turkey and give Turkey a taste of it's own medicine.

Ahrar al-Sham training camp in Homs countryside, if you zoom in you can see the obstacle course. Also it is next to the school complex. So when school building get bombed it doesn't always mean it was actually a school

Deir ezzor is collapsing, Isis now control water sources and gas station, also only safe place for helicopters to land is gone. Guys stationed at airport said they have water for like 2 days, lack ammo. Also report of fighting ongoing inside Brigade 137 base after VBIED attack.

this is very worrying i have always thought that once ISIS start to pull back from other areas lost this would create a build up of ISIS terrorists in the Deir ez zoir area to the point they would have enough to take over the base. The Syrian government has two choices make a deal with ISIS allowing them to remove the troops stationed there or stand and fight but the troops will need loads of support especially from RuAF. The thing is Deir ez zoir is pretty important location for the Syrian government, once eastern Homs is cleared of ISIS they would be able to link up with Deir ez zoir and be in a good position to block ISIS routes from Iraq to Al Raqqah, and with the help of the Kurds would then be able to seal off the border crossing point Al-Bukamal. It would also allow Syrian government to seal of the Al tanf Al walid crossing point.
anyone got any views on the Deir ez Zoir situation?

Re: Syrian Civil War: News #5
Bad news indeed and ''coincidentally'' just when SAA was ripping ''moderates'' apart in Latakia.
If this keeps up someone will have to make decision. Getting caught alive by those freaks is not something I would wish upon anyone and if Deir-ez-Zor is really falling with all the weapon stocks therein, then ''Dresden'' option might have to be considered in order to obliterate areas that are taken by ISIS while there is still something and someone left to save.
SAA troops there face some horrible choices and tough decisions ATM.
I hope I am wrong though...

That is not a coincidence. Remember when SAA and allies were preparing to start operations in Aleppo (vs. IS in Kuweiris and "insurgents" in SW Aleppo)? coincidentally both "moderates" and IS moved against the Ithiriyah-Safira supply line. This delayed operations by 7-10 days. Again, with "insurgents" on the run in Latakia and troubled in the south, IS attacks Deir Ezzor relentlessly.
