I agree with you. But I don't agree with Russia arming Taliban against the US, as sooner than later Taliban will turn against Russia.Werewolf wrote:US does not share that interest, they are the main source of not containing them but highly contaminating the entire region witch such scum. By now i take great offense when people who have layn down informations to them that USA is responsible for this "jihadi terrorism" still parrott bullshit like US fighting terrorism.
This combination of words; "USA fighting against terrorism", does not exist in the universe at all and are just a mere contradiction like a "thinking beheaded mastermind".

Russia had no issues with the Taliban, no matter how bad they were, especially when they cut the Opium trade to minimum. Then 9/11 happened. The problem however is that Russia needs to get NATO to stay and bleed in Afghanistan.

Taliban Islamism is of the nationalist kind. They will have a hard time gaining supporters from outside the pashto ethnic group. The best they can expect is a repeat of the 1992-1996 civil war except that this time Tajik forces will enjoy much greater foreign support.

i dont think that this would be enough to prevent them from taking absolute power. It will be the same scenario after USSR withdrawal. Radicals will take over and the civil war shall be continued

Re: Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan
Taliban never controlled all of Afghanistan -at the peak they controled about 85%. They have no heck of a chance of gaining even a small foothold outside of Afghanistan and Pashto-majority areas of Pakistan. Even weak Tajikistan with it's small army would be too hard to swallow for them even if they send all forces from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Taliban simply shouldn't be designated as an Islamist movement - really they're a Pashto Nationalist movements with elements of Islamism mixed into it.

Pentagon: Taliban Attack Kills 6 US Service Members in Afghanistan
In-Depth Coverage
by Ayaz Gul December 21, 2015
The Pentagon confirms that six U.S. service members were killed by a suicide bomber Monday on an attack on a NATO patrol near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
The Taliban is claiming responsibly for the attack, saying a suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed 19 soldiers. But the Taliban is notorious for exaggerating casualty numbers. NATO says it will investigate the attack.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter calls the bombing a 'painful reminder' of the dangers U.S. troops face in Afghanistan every day.
'As I saw firsthand during my visit to Afghanistan last Friday, our troops are working diligently alongside our Afghan partners to build a brighter future for the Afghan people,' he said. 'Their dedicated efforts will continue despite this tragic event.'
Carter also said the bombing wounded two other U.S. service members and a contractor.
The White House sends condolences to families of the victims and says it will not relent in countering the threat of terrorism that plagues the region.

That's a lot to take out in one go
Did the US just withdraw all the veterans from the country and stationed some rookies there instead?
Anyway, RIP.

U.S. Special Operations Forces Attacked in Afghanistan Near Marjah, Officials Say
Source: NBC News
An unknown number of U.S. Special Operations Forces were killed or wounded in two separate incidents in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, American defense officials told NBC News.
The forces were involved in a counter-terrorism operation in Helmand province when they came under attack, according to the officials, who said an unknown number of Americans were wounded in that incident.
The officials said a U.S. medevac chopper called in to recover casualties came under mortar and small-arms fire. It was not clear if the helicopter had been hit by enemy fire or whether any casualties were sustained in the landing zone, the officials added, speaking on condition of anonymity.
A spokesman for the NATO coalition in Afghanistan earlier told NBC News that a U.S. helicopter had "landed" in Helmand province and was "experiencing mechanical problems."

Taliban Announces 'Spring Offensive' in Afghanistan
Taliban insurgents announced the start to the extremist group's annual so-called spring offensive in Afghanistan against US and Afghan security forces on Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Taliban dubbed this year’s offensive "Operation Omari" in honor of Mullah Omar, the militant group’s leader whose 2013 death was acknowledged last summer. The campaign officially kicked off at 5 a.m. local time (00:30 GMT).
The extremist group said that with the advent of spring it is time for them to renew their jihadi operations.
The operation will employ large scale attacks on enemy positions across the country, martyrdom-seeking and tactical attacks against the Afghani government forces, assassination of "enemy" commanders in urban centers, the group announced.
According to the statement, the present operation will also employ all means at the group's disposal to lower the morale of the foreign armed forces.
US-led NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Joint Command mission in Afghanistan officially ended before the start of 2015. The current US plan is to end military presence in Afghanistan by December 2016, closing the remaining US bases in the country.
Formed in the 1990s, the Taliban seeks to enforce Sharia law in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan. The group is known for numerous terrorist attacks against authorities and civilians in both countries.
Last year’s Taliban offensive concentrated in the northeastern province of Badakhshan and was estimated to kill over 11,000 civilians.
