The "distortion" would be extremely insignificant. I'll explain in a post later.

Let's look at this through an example.

Let's say the lower window panel is "vertical"; the upper panel is at a 45° tilt; and the panels are 20 mm thick with an index of refraction of 1.5. Furthermore, let's say the optical system has a focal distance of 200 mm and is pointed at a tank 2000 m away.

All we are going to have is an imperceptible case of "double vision". This is how it works:

The upper panel will parallel-shift the light rays coming from the object (i.e. the tank) down by 7 mm (calculated based on the numbers above); so it would be like there being two tanks at 2000 m distance away, one 7 mm below the other one.

7 mm in the object plane translates into (7 mm)(200 mm)/(2000000 mm) = 0.7 µm in the image plane; so we have two tanks in the image plane, one 0.7 µm below the other.

Each element in an LWIR FPA has a dimension of about 30 µm, and the 0.7 µm shift between the two images is negligible with respect to this 30 µm dimension, i.e., the two images will combine very nicely.
