All they need to do is get a route to the Palmyra airbase. I'm predicting to see good results by the weekend, Possible capture of more surrounding hills. If I was ISIL, I would withdraw from hills, the surrounding hills and send units to break through to Palmyra airbase.

Regarding the TOW crew, It's sad to see the SAA torturing them like that. They are on their level, Although if they were a well known war criminal group then I would understand. Sure they killed our troops, But war is war.

Tow crew isn't a "known" criminal group, they're AlQaeda. The white flag is JaN flag. Basically this is just a gentle nudge before their real questioning.

It looks as though whoever holds the western hills controls the battle. If the whole ridge line looks like this, IS has already lost.

It kind of reminds me of the battle for Yabroud, the rebels held the city, dug in, had tunnels and expected street fighting. The SAA flanked west and took the high ground instead, bypassing the city. They positioned their self propelled guns on the western ridgeline and used them for direct fire support. The despite the rebels numbers and fortifications, the battle was short as their defensive points could be hit directly from the guns on the hill.

Update from Leith Fadel with local contacts at Palmyra

Syrian Army, Hezbollah liberate the western slopes of Jabal Tar

"Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – backed by the Desert Hawks, Hezbollah, and the Syrian Marines – imposed full control over the western slopes of Jabal Al-Tar.

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah infiltrated ISIS’ defenses at the western slopes of Jabal Al-Tar, forcing them to reinforce the eastern part of this important mountaintop that is situated in Palmyra’s western countryside.

If they capture Jabal Al-Tar from the ISIS terrorists, they will be able to complete the encirclement of Al-Dawah, while also having a presence near the Palmyra Castle.

In addition to liberating the western slopes of Jabal Al-Tar, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah also captured the Palmyra Fuel Station that is located at the southwestern perimeter of the Palmyra Orchards. With the Palmyra Fuel Station under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces are now within 2.0 km of the Palmyra Orchards that lead into this ancient desert city."

No it is not. It is a M-46 (130mm gun) that is very common in Syrian army.

You have been fooled by the second wheel. Look carefully.

I wonder if Vasilok mortars would find good use?  seems to be good weapon against infantry and pickups Smile

I agree even better when mounted on MT-LB, also MT-LB armed with AT-6 another ideal weapon. Although Syria only has a small number they should really use their ZSU-57-2 in ground support role, twin 57mm guns Very Happy Very Happy

    lol, nice one.

So which is likely to fall first Quraytayn or Palmyra???? I think Palmyra will be a tough battle probably the toughest encountered against ISIS but if this falls then Quraytayn will fall very quickly. If Quraytayn falls then the danger is where will the ISIS flee to?????? could be re-routed to Deir el Zoir

ISIS, oil & Turkey: RT films trove of jihadist docs detailing illegal trade with Ankara (EXCLUSIVE)

    Syrian Civil War: News #7 - Page 13 56f344c3c4618864318b45b8

An RT Documentary crew filming in northern Syria has seen Islamic State (IS, ISIS/ISIL) documents abandoned by retreating terrorists and found by the Kurds that, along with captured IS recruits, provide a stunning insight into the alleged Turkey-IS oil trade links.
Shortly after the outbreak of the Syrian war, IS became a game-changer in Iraq and, in particular, Syria. Beheadings on camera, mass killings, and enslavement, as well as apparent connections to the Paris and Brussels attacks had become synonymous with the terror group, giving it wide publicity.

Running a viable militant organization with such remarkable capabilities would be impossible without some logistical and financial support from the outside.

Turkey, which has been actively engaged in the Syrian war since the outset, has repeatedly denied claims that it is aiding IS. However, while Ankara insists that it is the jihadist group’s sworn enemy, facts on the ground often tell a different story.

RT has spoken to several witnesses who were involved in Islamic State’s trade activities and accessed the terror group’s documents, which provide insight into how and where foreign militants enter Syria to join the terrorist “state.”

    Detailed oil invoices
The RT Documentary team did most of its filming in the town of Shaddadi, located in the Syrian province Hasakah, which has been partly overrun by IS jihadists. Following the liberation of Shaddadi, which is home to some 10,000 people, RT filmed Kurdish soldiers walking around what used to be the homes of IS fighters and examining piles documents that had been left behind.

Some of the files seized at the scene turned out to be detailed invoices used by IS to calculate daily revenues from their oil fields and refineries, as well as the amount of oil extracted there. All the documents had Islamic State’s symbol at the top.

The files showed that “IS has kept very professional records of their oil business,” said the author of the new RT Documentary on Islamic State filmed in northern Syria, who chose to remain anonymous for security reasons.

Every invoice included the name of the driver, the vehicle type driven, and the weight of the truck, both full and empty, as well as the agreed upon price and invoice number.

One of the discovered invoices dated 11 January, 2016, says that IS had extracted some 1,925 barrels of oil from Kabibah oil field and sold it for $38,342.

IS oil goes to Turkey – IS fighters come via Turkey
RT spoke to local residents who had been forced to work in the IS oil industry about what it was like working at the terrorist-controlled oil refinery and where the extracted oil was sold.

The locals attested that “the extracted oil was delivered to an oil refinery, where it was converted into gasoline, gas and other petroleum products. Then the refined product was sold,” the RT documentary’s author said. “Then intermediaries from Raqqa and Allepo arrived to pick up the oil and often mentioned Turkey.”

Important information revealing the connection between IS and Turkey was provided by a Turkish militant previously captured by the Kurds. The IS recruit said on camera that the terrorist group does, in fact, sell oil to Turkey.

“Without even us asking the fighter directly, he admitted that the reason why it was so easy for him to cross the Turkish border and join IS was, in part, due to the fact that Turkey also benefited. When asked how, he said that Turkey gets something out of it – something such as oil.”

RT was also able to speak with a Kurdish soldier in the area, who displayed a collection of passports he had gathered from the dead bodies of IS fighters. The documentary crew’s exclusive footage shows the documents of several jihadists who had come from all over the world, including countries such as Bahrain, Libya, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tunisia, and Turkey.  Most of these foreign fighters seemed to have come via Turkey, as all of their passports contained entry stamps issued at Turkish border checkpoints.

A YPG member also provided some photos that were retrieved from a USB drive allegedly belonging to future IS militants. One photo showed three men standing in front of the Obelisk of Theodosius, known today as Sultanahmet Meydani, a famous landmark in Istanbul. The next photo showed the three among other fellow militants somewhere in Syria – all armed and equipped.

One of the IS fighters that RT interviewed revealed that there had been no border guards waiting for them when they crossed from Turkey into Syria.

    Islamist propaganda printed in Istanbul
Turkey’s logistical support for extremist fighters trying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government, or at least its non-interference with their cross-border movements, has been widely reported, but little has been said about the ideological support coming from Turkish soil.
    Syrian Civil War: News #7 - Page 13 56f34391c361888c228b45a5
Among the documents left behind by the terrorists at an IS-run hospital, RT’s crew discovered an Islamist propaganda leaflet printed in Arabic titled “How to wage a perfect battle against the criminal Assad’s regime,” which described ways to combat the Syrian government.

    Syrian Civil War: News #7 - Page 13 56f342ffc4618865318b45b5
Curiously, the brochure was printed in Turkey, with the cover openly displaying the postal address and phone number of an Istanbul printing house, supplemented by Facebook contacts.

A newly-released Hilary Clinton email confirmed that the Obama administration has deliberately provoked the civil war in Syria as the “best way to help Israel.”

In an indication of her murderous and psychopathic nature, Clinton also wrote that it was the “right thing” to personally threaten Bashar Assad’s family with death.

In the email, released by Wikileaks, then Secretary of State Clinton says that the “best way to help Israel” is to “use force” in Syria to overthrow the government.

The document was one of many unclassified by the US Department of State under case number F-2014-20439, Doc No. C05794498, following the uproar over Clinton’s private email server kept at her house while she served as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.

Although the Wikileaks transcript dates the email as December 31, 2000, this is an error on their part, as the contents of the email (in particular the reference to May 2012 talks between Iran and the west over its nuclear program in Istanbul) show that the email was in fact sent on December 31, 2012.

The email makes it clear that it has been US policy from the very beginning to violently overthrow the Syrian government—and specifically to do this because it is in Israel’s interests.

    OMG... this is epic. Laughing

The one million dollar question that the white house spokeman cannot answer. lol1

There are reports the syrian army is liberating Palmyra from ISIS. Do you want the Syrian
Army to control of the City? or you want ISIS to continue holding it?

and the propaganda minister of the white house is put to the wall with the question.
if he says he support Syrian army taking the city , he will be providing support to Syria
Government fight against terrorism ,which United states propaganda try to make it look
they are fighting freedom fighters. lol  But if he say that he support ISIS to continue holding
the city , then he will be effectively promoting to not fight ISIS.Effectively support of terrorism.   Cool

You can notice him caught out of guard with the question and confused in what way
to answer it because in the end US propaganda is 100% in misleading people into thinking
Syrian army is fighting peaceful civilians.

Notice how the spoke man of the white house even laugh ,knowing all journalist noticed
he is not being honest and he was trying to sidestep the question.an unfortunate question . Completely exposing the fraud of the American policy in fighting ISIS.

the most epic thing about this question is that the same spokeman of the white house
Laugh at his own propaganda and he basically shows in front of cameras to the world
that he is NOT BEING HONEST with his explanation to the question when he admits is not
    seeking to answer it.  lol1

The best thing Russia did in this conflict after joining to help Syria with its Airforce ,is
to force Americans and its allies define who are the terrorist and who are their so called
moderates and their location in Syria.  Because now they cannot effectively condemn the Syrian army for fighting zones where ISIS is..  Wink

And the bonus of Russia policy ,is that effectively states that any "moderates" that is caught
breaking the cease of fire will be removed from the list of moderates and put in the list of terrorist.

So effectively this cease of Russia ,is a trap to Americans policy in Syria. Because it allows
Americans to retreat from it ,while at the same time legitimate Russia bombing of many zones in Syria where terrorist are and while at the same time seal the fate of US sponsored "moderates" ,because Syria army is blocking all supply routes of them and only humanitarian aid and food will be allowedto their zones where also civilians are. It also encourage terrorist to fight other terrorist in change for not being bombed them. divide and conquer. lol1

All this naturally was done by Russia to earn time. To focus mostly in ISIS and Alqaeda first ,
while keeping the american moderates encircled and stuck without any weapons supplies.
Once ISIS defeated the Syrian army can easily focus on the american sponsored jihadist that refuse to drop their weapons. This cease fire looks like the mother of all diplomacy traps ever created. lol1 it forces americans to Peace , since allows them to save face and it also force
western sponsored moderates headchoppers to distance from ISIS and Alqaeda.. So it effectively don't allow the terrorist to have a united front against Assad. and legitimate the fighting of Russia and Syria on many zones on Syria. Wink

All this diplomacy tricks and traps of Russia is aimed at international Public Opinion. If americans reject Russia bombing of ISIS it will be hard for them to explain that. Their only
propaganda in Syria was that Russia was bombing the "moderates" figthing ISIS" . But now that
Americans have draw the zones of where ISIS is.. they cannot cry "human rights" in zones ISIS control. Wink

This however ,this diplomatic victory was not nessesary . If Russia helped Syria since 2011 ,
none of this Bullshit will be happening and Syria will have not lost 100,000 Syrian soldiers and will control most of Syria today.

I honestly have no idea how Matt Lee, Gayane Chichakyan et al. put up with the utter garbage these spox spew. I actually saw a 'murican bragging about it once, saying what a beautiful example of free speech their nation is due to the fact that the press can ask questions of their State Dep... Of course I just asked him where his unscripted three hour presser with the president was. lol1

Shocking, shameful response."Hahaha". Reveals USA 's complete moral hypocrisy in it's so called "War on terrorism". The masked slipped revealing their true agenda of sponsoring it, when it suits their geopolitical aims.

    David Knowles
He even laugh at his own refusal to answer questions. He probably went out on that stage knowing he weren't allowed to answer any questions about Palmyra or appear to congratulate the Syrian army advances on that front by Syrian Army and it allies.

What...Matt Lee & Gayane Chichakyan absent. This guy Toner thought he was of the hook that morning.

If by more sophisticated you mean blood trans and baxters, yes. These guys should consider themselves dead and try to find ways to suicide. There's enough professional sadists East of Rome that I don't see the point of them even trying to cope with the hits and pain. Die already cockroaches.

The ceasefire and the way it was implemented was the FAB-9000 of the diplomatic world - with a delayed fuze to lull the AngloZionists into a flase sense of security.
