"Иван Грен" - головной корабль проекта 11711, разработанного в ОАО "Невское проектно-конструкторское бюро". Он был заложен в декабре 2004 года, спущен на воду в мае 2012-го, заводские ходовые испытания начались в июне 2016 года. "Петр Моргунов" станет вторым кораблем этого проекта, который построит "Янтарь". Он должен быть передан флоту в 2018 году.

Maybee Morgunov should be delivered on 2018? I do not know Russian dunno

It actualy is readable as Morgunov will be delivered in 2018, but I think this is lapsus and Gren will be delivered in 2018.

    Congratulations. respekt

For all intents and purposes, it is in service.
It just did not get a ceremony. Maybe they will do one on Navy Day (Sunday).

It looks like german frigates lol1 lol1

I don't undersstand why so many hate that ship. It's not bad hen you compare to previous class. And it's not meant to be a helicopter carrier like Mistrals. Having 10 of these would be nice for naval infantry and landing troops. Pretty big, stealth, one helicopter. What do you want more ?

Ship itself is not the problem, it's build time plus the fact that they stopped and restarted project several times

    Again, not ship's fault

Basically it dragged on for 20 years and they should be building new class now instead of just finishing first one from the old class

Outdated as concept, that is the problem. Future ships of the class would require major reworks to fit current naval doctrine, so its alot easier to just finish two existing hulls and proceed with another projects instead.

It is, but it could serve as a basis of a future class of landing ships. Ropucha-class LSTs will likely to be phased out by 2030, and they will need a replacement. If they will expand Naval Infantry, and/or they will establish more bases in the Arctic, there will be an increasing need for such ships.

Why is it an outdated concept ? Do you mean that these sort of landing ships should be replaced with LHD or just this class is badly designed and should be redigned ?

And what is the new naval doctrine ? Can you develop ?

In the last iteration these ships were supposed to serve as supplements for Mistrals

But after that went down they cancelled rest of them and decided to finish two that were laid down

Well now with Tartus is open for business properly these two ships will find their purpose shuttling stuff between Novorosiysk and Tartus

I think that it's wrong to call the ship outdated, why. As it was mentioned before and as it is quite obvious this is a 120m long ship not a 200-250m long universal amphibious assault monster. Sure, I would like to see a 100 mm gun on the front and a close in air defense systems based on missiles (or a combined module) but it's still ok, it has the "Grad" like launchers for land targets, two helicopters and a big loading crane.

Basically you are saying that only a 200m long ship can be of any use to the naval infantry.

The large assault ship "Ivan Gren" tested the artillery system during the factory tests

The next stage of the program will be artillery shooting on a sea target-stand and a model of a floating sea mine

KALININGRAD, October 21. / TASS /. The crew of the large assault ship "Ivan Grin", which is at the factory road trials in the Baltic Sea, fired small artillery complexes AK-630m, the official representative of the Baltic Fleet Roman Martov said.

Poor Gren it's not a bad design really...has two choppers, has motor boats sure it could carry abit more cause 14 tanks is small 18 would have been reasonable.

Problem is the people in charge of this thing just have shown how vastly incompetent they are

If they are going to bring anything back in service may has well be the Ivan rogov's.

Granted those ships require a modernization which would be super super expensive.
