Re: Project 11711: "Ivan Gren" class
Supposedly its expected to start trials mid-April https://flotprom.ru/2019/%D0%AF%D0%BD%D1%82%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%8C3/
The pic is from April so trials mid-April seems doubtful to me, they need to finish it off, re-paint & probably a drydocking first.
Navy is planning on ordering another 2, possibly the modernised version https://flotprom.ru/2019/%D0%AF%D0%BD%D1%82%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%8C57/

It seems heavier on the front than on the back.
Maybe they can test navigation near the port as everything seems to be installed to check engines, flotability ...

The weapons and most antennas are on-board. Reserve the fresh paint for after the trials.

In the previous page you can see how Eehnie also predicted the new order of large amphibious ships
Now I read Eehnie in mundo.sputniknews.com and sputniknews.com.

More compact superstructure. Greater flight deck. Maybe two helis in the hangar + two on the deck.

YESSSS!!!
This is smartest thing they could have done by far.
They converted old school landing ships into proper Rotterdam-style LPD thus capitalizing on time and money already invested in them and saving themselves the hassle of building Priboi LPD.
They can now focus on developing Avalanche LHD and have decent LPD already in production, perfect!

Highly unlikely, the Ivan Gren has a displacement of 6600T, so this ship based on the Gren should be closer to 6KT, unless there's been some serious redesign.

Well the Priboy, was meant to handle more than double the Gren's weight, but this is a definite improvement over the Gren nonetheless.

Is she LPD? I am not sure that this class is "dock" ship? Can she launch LCU/LCM ? It is more likely it is just LS(T).

Re: Project 11711: "Ivan Gren" class
Well thats a lot more rational looking, still got the IG look in the hull.
I'd say there's a bit of a hull stretch.
IG has 2* Ka-29 already, this is getting Ka-52K (which apparently means bigger hangar).
8Kton is being quoted as officially stated at the event.Highly unlikely, the Ivan Gren has a displacement of 6600T, so this ship based on the Gren should be closer to 6KT, unless there's been some serious redesign.

Well if so, then let's hope this is the only redesign and hope that things don't go Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs like last time's numerous redesign sessions.
Fingers crossed.

On the sign: Project 11711. Ships 303 + 304.
Hard to justify after this modifications.

Does it have a well dock?
If it has a well dock and an hangar for the helicopters, according to the US Navy classification, it is a LPD.
From wikipedia
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dock_landing_ship wrote:
A ship with a well deck (docking well) can transfer cargo to landing craft in rougher seas than a ship that has to use cranes or a stern ramp.[2] The US Navy hull classification symbol for a ship with a well deck depends on its facilities for aircraft – a (modern) LSD has a helicopter deck, a LPD also has a hangar, and a LHD or LHA has a full-length flight deck.[2]

From Bmpd article
The ships were named after military leaders who led amphibious operations in the Pacific during the war with Japan in 1945, from which it can be concluded that both new BDK are destined for the Pacific Fleet.

Re: Project 11711: "Ivan Gren" class
that is quite important. The Pacific Fleet needs new vessels and their Ropuchka and Alligator LST are not exactly new.George1 wrote:From Bmpd article

That is my point I do not think it have well dock so it isn't LPD.

Looks like Russians stick to tradition. The difference between Project 11711 and "improved" 11711 seems to be like: Tu-22 and Tu-22m. You add just m et voila !
BTW Rakhmanov was mentioning that Ivan Gren project can be modified till 14,000 tons in next step . Well this is coincidentally fucking close to Lavina LHD...
