I rather suspect that mine knew there were problems... they had had ventilation issues in the past and explosions too, but right now China is buying all the coal it can get so likely extra shifts and ignoring warning systems to get as much coal onto those train wagons will be the priority of management at the mine because if they don't ship it some other mine will...

It turns out the management is at fault. They even finagled the detection equipment since they wanted to maximize production
and profits as coal fetches a high price now. I hope these scumbags are prosecuted to Hell.

The disgusting thing is that the lives they were gambling with were not their own...

Five people killed by fires in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region - Emergencies Ministry

A state of emergency has been declared in the region where strong winds are fuelling fires

KRASNOYARSK, May 7. /TASS/. Five people have been killed by fires in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk region, the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"Twenty buildings are on fire in the Nikolsk settlement, where two people have been killed, according to preliminary reports. Sixteen buildings are engulfed by fire in the Talazhanka settlement in the Kazachinsky district. According to preliminary reports, three people have been killed," the statement reads.

A state of emergency has been declared in the region where strong winds are fuelling fires. Blazes have been reported in more than 16 settlements where about 200 buildings are on fire.
