These numbers indicate that the "rebels" have been hollowed out. I don't see them having 1000 tanks but I could be wrong.

I would suggest that the Russian effort in Syria is slowly increasing in line with progress. Success breads success. How long has there been a Colonel General in charge in Syria? The last I remember was a Lt Gen. As a career enhancing oportunity there must be a bit of a fight going on in Moscow for the posts. Mind you, its not all good as that Maj Gen found out last week.

The success of the operation for the liberation of Syria’s Palmyra was made possible thanks to the actions of the Russian Air Force and the dedication of the Syrian military, Col. Gen. Andrei Kartapolov, the commander of the Russian military contingent in Syria, said Sunday. “I would particularly like to comment on the actions of our Air and Space Forces of Russia, which deprived the enemy of the ability to maneuver and promptly deliver reserves. Also the actions of the units of Special Operations Forces of the Russian Armed Forces that conducted reconnaissance and hit the most important targets,” Kartapolov told reporters on Russia 24 channel.

He went on to praise the Syrian troops that fought Daesh in the ground operation. “I cannot help but note the bravery and self-sacrifice of the Syrian soldiers, officers and militia fighters who went in without sparing their lives to accomplish this task and reclaim this city for the Syrian people and for the whole of humanity… I think the most important thing is that the Syrian soldiers and officers believed in themselves, they believed that they can return what they had lost,” Kartapolov said.

The commander further said that the second retaking of Syria's Palmyra from Daesh went according to plan and with minimal losses. “The operation to liberate Palmyra was carried out according to plan. We spent a lot of time in preparations and we considered all the factors that came up during last retaking of Palmyra, which allowed us to carry out the task within a short time with minimal losses,” he said.

Have feeling he may have meant "sick" in the current slang sense. If not, oh well, it's the ugly reality of war. Maybe doesn't seem "cricket" but it's no crime.

Head of the Directorate of Combat Training of the Western Military District’s Staff, Major General Petr Milyukhin, was critically injured in the battle for Palmyra in Syria, according to reports in Russian media. It was the first Russian general, who was wounded in Syria. According to the Russian Kommersant newspaper, the incident allegedly took place on February 16 when an armored vehicle with Russian military personnel was blown up on a radio-controlled IED en route from the Tiyas Airbase to the city of Homs and then came under fire. Milyukhin lost both his legs and an eye. 4 more Russian troops died in the incident. The death of four Russian military servicemen en route to Homs was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry in February.

The Russian Aerospace Forces performed 991 sorties, destroying 2,306 ISIS targets during a month, Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel General Sergei Rudskoy, said. ISIS command points, depots of arms and ammunition and heavy military equipment were main targets of the airstrikes.
