Zhukovsky (MO), August 21. (ITAR-TASS). Indian Navy invited the joint Russo-Indian company BrahMos consider the possibility of installation of the same name of cruise missiles on diesel submarines.

According to ITAR-TASS during MAKS-2009 the director of a joint venture with Russia by Alexander Baskakov, "currently is no such possibility, there are only theoretical developments. "Nevertheless, the Indian Navy proposed joint venture to explore the installation of missiles Brahmos on diesel-powered submarines, - he said. - The type of boats is not defined, but it will not nuclear-powered submarines.

"Currently, we are to pursue this matter," - said Baskakov. "The NGO engineering" is a big hurt to the submarine-launched prototype missile BrahMos, "- he recalled.

Joint venture "BrahMos" created in 1998 in accordance with the Agreement between the Governments of Russia and India. June 12, 2001 from the Indian Chandipur test site was carried out the first launch of a supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, created on the basis of Russia's fourth-generation anti-ship missile. According to the press service of the NPO Machine Building "," after that until August 2009 was held on 20 more launches of cruise missiles from ships and land-based fixed and mobile launchers, nearly all with positive results. Indian fighters to be armed with BrahMos misiles

    RIA Novosti

    04/02/201013:14

SINGAPORE, February 4 (RIA Novosti) - India's fleet of Su-30MKI Flanker-H fighters could be armed with BrahMos missiles by 2012, the vice president of the Irkut Corporation said at the Singapore Airshow 2010 on Thursday.

The Corporation is a prime contractor in manufacturing the Su-30MKI multi-role fighters for the Indian Air Force. Its share of Russia's arms exports is 15%.

"The modernization program includes re-equipping of some 100 Su-30MKI fighters, which are currently in service with the Indian Air Force," Vladimir Sautov said.

"It is being carried out by the Rosoboronexport, the Sukhoi Design Bureau and NPO Mashinostroyeniya. If things go well, we may offer modernized Su-30MKI fighters to our other foreign partners as soon as 2012," he added.

The BrahMos missile has a range of 290 km (180 miles) and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg (660 lbs). It can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 meters (30 feet) and has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is about three times faster than the U.S.-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.

The Indian Air Force originally ordered 50 Su-30MKI aircraft from Russia in 1996 and an additional 40 planes in 2007. India's Hindustani Aeronautics (HAL) was also contracted to build 140 aircraft in India between 2003 and 2017 under a licensed production agreement.

Sautov also revealed that as the missile is "large, heavy and powerful," a lighter modification is currently under development, which will enable Su-30MKI fighters to carry not only one but three missiles.

Established in 1998, BrahMos Aerospace, a joint Indian-Russian venture, produces and markets BrahMos supersonic missiles. The sea-based and land-based versions have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian Army and Navy.

    @Austin
So tell me India got Brahmos & Pakistan got C-802 antiship cruise missile.
One is supersonic & the latter ~sonic.
Being ramjet powered the Brahmos suffers from high altitude detection & interception. Its min altitude above sea level is 10m while C-802 is about 3m; however Brahmos is popular because of its high destructive power; owing to high speed say ~twice of C-802 its penetration & kinetic blow will be twice deadly than C-802. Being a Russian legacy of making things spacious its warhead too is ~twice heavy roughly 200kg as opposed to 110kg for C-802.
So in a way a single shot of Brahmos can take down a cruiser ship which otherwise will require two C-802!!
by the way can Brahmos be launched from a warplane?? because C-802 variant is integrated in JF-17

nightcrawler C-802 is more comparable to Kh-35 Uran missile.

Brahmos is in a different league and it really keeps getting better specially the Block 2 is a very unique missile with unique characteristics.

More ever the KE imparted by Brahmos is 9 times more lethal than subsonic missile and not 2x times that you have mentioned.

You can read more on Brahmos from their official page http://www.brahmos.com/content.php?id=10&sid=10

I do not think any where in the world there exist a missile like Brahmos ,Its really in a league of its own and a outcome of Indo-Russian joint effort.

C-802 like Uran missile has its own niche space and will have its value due to subsonic low level penetration and its still a challenge for any AD system to deal with.

    Sorry my bad

    K.E (c)=0.5*m*v^2 (of C-802)

Brahmos has relatively double mass & double Mach no

    K.E (b)=0.5*(2m)*(2v)^2 (of Brahmos)
    K.E (b)=8*K.E (c)

    roughly~8 times
    ummmm......... close to your estimate

Hypersonic missile to be ready in 5 years

Coimbatore With the air-version of BrahMos missile likely to be inducted in IAF within a year, works have already been started to develop BrahMos 2, the fastest Hypersonic missile in the world, which would take final shape in five years, a top scientist said.

While the BrahMos missile has the speed of Mach 3 (speed of sound) moving at one km per second, the Hypersonic missile would achieve a speed of Mach 6 to Mach 7, double than that of the present missile, A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO and Managing Director, BrahMos Aerospace, said.

“We have the guidelines and technology to make Hypersonic missile. Tests, however, have to be conducted for configuring with the propulsion and the engine and flight tested, which would take at least five years,” Pillai said.

Once operational, BrahMos 2 would be the fastest missile in the world, he said.

Having achieved the land and sea versions of BrahMos missile, the air version was in the final stage and after carrying out the critical test,it would be inducted into the Indian Air Force to use in Sukhoi-30,the main striking aircraft. The missile would be a versatile system in the Defence Force, he said.

Asked about inquiries from foreign Countries, Pillai said since there was no equivalent to the BrahMos, many countries were queuing up for the missile for use in multiple platforms in their force.

There was , however, huge requirement of this missile in India and only after fulfilling the demand, the company can think of supplying to foreign countries, he said.

It would be the fastest air breathing anti ship missile...

There are plenty of missiles that travel at more than 2km/s.

Indias BrahMos cruise missile successfully test fired

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

New Delhi, Mar 4, IRNA -- Indian Army Sunday successfully test fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile at the Pokharan range in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan state, to operationalise the second regiment of the weapon system in service.

'In conformity and pursuit of operational and strategic surface to surface missile capability development, the second BrahMos unit of Indian Army has been operationalised. The Indian Army unit successfully launched BrahMos missile and destroyed the preselected target in the field firing ranges in Rajasthan,' pti reported quoting an Army spokesperson as said in Jaisalmer.

The test was witnessed by senior Army officials including Vice Chief Lt Gen Shri Krishna Singh and Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen A K Chaudhary.

The Army has so far placed orders for three regiments of the supersonic cruise missile and with today's test firing, two of them have been inducted operationally.

The Defence Ministry has also given a go ahead to the Army to induct a third regiment for being deployed in Arunachal Pradesh along the China border.

One regiment of the 290-km range BrahMos consists of around 65 missiles, five mobile autonomous launchers on Tatra vehicles and two mobile command posts, among other equipment.

BrahMos Aerospace, an Indo-Russian joint venture company headed by A Sivathanu Pillai, is also working to develop the submarine launched, air launched and a hyper-sonic version of the missile in the near future.

It has already been inducted into the Navy and is deployed on almost all the front line surface warships of the maritime force.

BrahMos Missile in Indian Armed Forces Empty Brahmos missiles to get airlift, to be mounted on Sukhoi-30MKI

    Post  ricky123 Sun Aug 26, 2012 1:23 am

NEW DELHI: The government is set to approve an over Rs 6,500 crore programme to mount supersonic cruise missile Brahmos on Sukhoi-30MKI fighters of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The air-launched missile system would significantly add to the conventional offensive capabilities of Indian military might, while intensifying arms race in the region.

The project seeks to mount the missile on 42 Sukhoi fighters, and includes 216 air-version missiles.

it will be mounted on only 2 protypes first then rest will follow ,i think they are making changes to the fuselage
this will be made in india itself with russian providing help ....

Most deadly fighter with even deadlier missile respekt

i heard they r gonna sell this missile to other countries as well ?

i heard they r gonna sell this missile to other countries as well ?

The Yakhont is an export missile and has already been sold to a few countries.

The money earned in selling such missiles is reinvested in making newer better missiles.

Russia does not sell its best missile (Onyx, which Yakhont is based on).

Sales of Brahmos lead to income that helps pay for Brahmos II.

BrahMos Missile in Indian Armed Forces Empty Brahmos Aerospace working on a reduced size "Brahmos Mini" version for Rafale and Mig-29K

    Post  ricky123 Fri Nov 09, 2012 5:24 pm

Brahmos Aerospace gave Navy Recognition an update on the status of Brahmos Mini during INDODEFENCE 2012, the Tri-service defence exhibition currently being held in Jakarta. While the mini version will be significantly reduced in size, the Indian-Russian joint venture is focusing on retaining the same speed, range and overall performance as the original, larger missile.

While the regular Brahmos missile already equips Indian Army and Indian Navy, the first drop tests from a SU-30MKI will occur in the next 5 to 6 months. Integration work on the platform has already occured for quite some time now in India with the participation of HAL, Sukhoi and the Indian MOD.
BrahMos Missile in Indian Armed Forces Brahmo11
However Brahmos Aerospace has the feeling that with a smaller missile, it will be able to be present on many platforms. The company's first focus will be the integration of the future Brahmos mini on future Indian platforms such as the Rafale (winner of MMRCA) and Mig-29K of Indian navy.

Early work on Brahmos Mini is aimed at reducing many systems of the original missile, and the target weight for the "mini" version is 1.5 tons while retaining the original speed (Mach 2.Cool and range 290 Km. First live tests could be conducted in about 2 years while subsystems trials are currently being conducted.BrahMos Missile in Indian Armed Forces Brahmo12

The first platform to be integrated with Brahmos Mini will be of Russian origin, possible the Mig-29K of the Indian Navy. Brahmos Mini will be capable of withstanding aircraft carrier deck landings as the heavier, 2.5 tons missile already withstands all sorts of stress when launched from the various existing launchers.

While no talks have occured yet between Brahmos Aerospace and Dassault Aviation they plan to start contacts once the first missile tests have occured.

Regarding weapon loads, the Indian-Russian Joint Venture believes that after the required development and testing, both Mig-29K and Rafale should be able to carry between 1 and 3 Brahmos Mini.

On a larger scale, Brahmos Aerospace is confident that Brahmos Mini will open a huge potential market for the company, with specifications that very few competitors will be able to match.

Finally, regarding its presence at Indo Defence, Brahmos Aerospace told us that a lot of countries from the area have expressed interest for its land attack and anti-ship missile.

i think the price .size speed will play a great role if they r thinking of exporting
and if they can intergrate it on all platforms it will then have to be mass produced bringing down theprice

India test-fired new version of BrahMos cruise missile

The Indian military on Wednesday successfully test-fired a maneuverable version of the 290-km range supersonic cruise missile BrahMos. The missile blasted off from a naval warship off the coast of Vishakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal in a pre-designated war scenario taking a “double-maneuver in S-form,” BrahMos Aerospace CEO A. Sivathanu Pillai said. It hit the designated target ship just one meter above the waterline, ripping through the ship’s hull, he said. This is the 34th launch of BrahMos, which is capable of acquiring data from both US’s GPS and Russian GLONASS satellite systems.

India test-fires submarine-launched version of BrahMos missile

VISAKHAPATNAM: India today successfully carried out the maiden test firing of the over 290km-range submarine-launched version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in the Bay of Bengal — becoming the first country in the world to have this capability.

The submarine-launched version of BrahMos was successfully test-fired from an underwater pontoon near here, BrahMos CEO A Sivathanu Pillai told PTI.

This is the first test-firing of an underwater supersonic cruise missile anywhere in the world and the missile travelled its complete range of over 290km, he said.

He said the performance of the missile during the test launch was "perfect".

Ship and ground-launched versions of the missile have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian Army and the Navy.

The maiden test of the submarine-launched version of BrahMos comes over a week after the indigenously built long-range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay failed to hit its target in its first test.

"BrahMos missile is fully ready for fitment in submarines in vertical launch configuration which will make the platform one of the most powerful weapon platforms in the world," Pillai said.

Defence minister A K Antony congratulated DRDO scientists and Russian specialists along with officers of the Indian Navy associated with the project for successful test launch of missile from an underwater platform.

    Very interesting.

What was the launch platform? And what in the Indian navy is going to be used as the platform?
