Russia's Western Military District Gets 2,500 Modern Communication Systems

The modern stations and systems ensure a high level of noise immunity and imitation protection and enable rapid data transmission.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Western Military District troops received over 2,500 modern communication and control systems in 2015, a district spokesman said Tuesday.

"The Western Military District signal troops received over 2,500 units of modern digital stations as well as control and operational and tactical data transfer systems from the Russian defense industry in 2015. It includes digital telecommunications system Redut-2US, Kushetka command vehicles based on BTR-80 and all-terrain Kamaz drive vehicles," Col. Oleg Kochetkov said.

The modern stations and systems ensure a high level of noise immunity and imitation protection. The equipment enables rapid data transmission networks using various topologies.

New communication technology allows troops to perform training and combat tasks in a unified system of tactical control, as well as to transmit large amounts of audiovisual information over secure communication channels, the spokesman said.

Western Military District signal troops began exercises using the new equipment in permanent deployment as well as field training and tactical drills, Kochetkov said.

"The Russian Army scouts at the numbered army level in the Central Military District converted to the R-145BMA Tigr command post vehicle designed for communications with the higher headquarters and subordinate units, the military district’s press office said on Friday, October 23, 2015. "The Tigr commander’s communications vehicle is designed for unit commanders to remain in touch with their higher HQ and subordinate elements at the halt and on the move," the press office said in a news release.

The command post version of the Tigr features secure communications equipment, including a GLONASS satellite navigation receiver. The GAZ-2330 Tigr armored wheeled combat vehicle features an enhanced off-road capability and is powered by a 150-hp engine. It has a carrying capacity of 1.2 tons and a maximum road speed of 140 km/h. The Russian-developed family of Tigr armored wheeled vehicles is produced for the Russian Defense Ministry by the Gorky Automotive Plant and Arzamas Machinebuilding Plant. The Tigr is designed for reconnaissance, convoy escort, patrol and fire support missions.

The R145BMA command post vehicle has been derived from the baseline Tigr. It is designed for command, control and communications. The vehicle has Class 5 all-round ballistic protection compliant with the GOST R 50963-96 standard."

New Batch of Repair Vehicles Enter Service at Eastern Military District

    Russian Ground Forces: News #2 - Page 20 1029208155

Twenty state-of-the-art armored recovery vehicles have entered into service with Russia’s Eastern Military District (EMD) for field repairs of weapons and equipment, the EMD spokesman said Wednesday.

KHABAROVSK (Sputnik) – Gordeev added that REM-KL vehicles are able to evacuate damaged vehicles or light armored vehicles, as well as weapons weighing up to 16 metric tonnes.

"The 20 REM-KL vehicles are equipped with modern multi-profile equipment and instruments, and are designed for the tactical restoration or repair of military equipment and weapons in the field," Alexander Gordeev said.

The REM-KL is designed on the basis of the Ural-532362 heavy-duty off-road army service truck. The vehicle is mounted with an IM-95 crane with the maximum load of 3 metric tonnes and an electric generator for welding jobs.

Its main advantages over predecessors include high maneuverability and the equipment available to perform more complex repairs on the ground.

This always made sense to me. I believe it was planmed even during soviet times. But these mobile nuke plants would provide all the needed energy, plus some, for all their needs.

"In 1957 the Ministry of Medium Machine Building of the USSR (read: Ministry of Atomic Energy) issued an ordered to the Kirov factory for a nuclear power station on a mobile chassis allowing for power generations in remote parts of the USSR. This vehicle received the name TES-3 (Transportable Nuclear Power System) along with the GABTU designation Object 27. Head designer Joseph Kotin settled for an enlarged T-10 chassis with 9 road wheels instead of the usual 7. Due to the large size and weight of the power system 4 chassis had to be linked. The reactor produced 1.5 megawatts of energy. In 1961 in the TES-3 was put into service with two different reactors being built and tested successfully during in the early '60s. However in 1965 it was taken out of general service. However the TES-3 was sent to the Kamchatka peninsula where it served for several decades. The TES-3 served as the basis for other vehicles of this type in the 1980s."

TSNIITOCHMASH set to develop telescopic shells for autocannons/artillery:

    - TSNIITOCHMASH recently successfully conducted preliminary tests of a new 120-mm self-propelled artillery "Zauralets-D." On what other projects in the field of artillery Institute works?

    - We are thinking about developing a telescopic shot for small-caliber guns. By the way, on this problem for a long time are specialists in different countries. Enough serious scientific advance in this area has in our country, we develop it. In contrast to the unitary shots, telephoto shot himself in a shell hidden in the sleeve. Firstly, it increases the rate of charge, and secondly, saves space, allowing increase ammunition.

TSNIITOCHMASH: a sample of a new gun for the Defense Ministry will be ready soon

Russian Military Holds Large-Scale Anti-Terrorist Drills in Amur Region

Anti-terrorism units in Russia's Eastern Military District have conducted large-scale exercises to repel terrorist attacks in the Amur Region, the district's spokesman said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Describing the script for the exercise, Col. Alexander Gordeev said, "a conventional armed bandit group attacked a military unit to seize the storage of ammunition and weaponry. As a result of the use of grenades by the conventional terrorists during the assault on the military unit, fire broke out in one of the checkpoints.".

According to Gordeev, anti-terrorist units blocked terrorists and opened fire. After having eliminated the so-called "conventional gang," the fire brigade garrison extinguished a fire.

About a dozen automobiles and light-armored military vehicles, and some 200 soldiers participated in the exercises.

Russia to Develop New Armored Vehicle Evacuation Equipment by 2019

Next year’s plans include developing reconnaissance vehicles, unified evacuation vehicles based on the Tornado truck, as well as tracked evacuation and repair vehicles.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – New machines to evacuate motor and armored vehicles from the battlefield will enter into service in Russia by 2019, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Dmitry Bulgakov said Friday.

"We expect to complete the development of new evacuation means of armored and motor vehicles in the next three to four years," Bulgakov said at an Armed Forces materiel and technical support assembly of military department heads.

Bulgakov said next year’s plans include developing reconnaissance vehicles, unified evacuation vehicles based on the Tornado truck, as well as tracked evacuation and repair vehicles.

"We are currently developing tactical and technical requirements and specifications to carry out development projects for this technology," he added.

The Russian Armed Forces are undergoing a $325-billion rearmament program, including the upgrading of new armored vehicles and automotive equipment.

"More than ten Strela-10MN mobile air defense missile systems have arrived for air defense units of the Western Military District’s motor rifle brigade based in the Leningrad Region in northwest Russia, district spokesman Oleg Kochetkov said on Monday, Nov. 30, 2015."The air defense units are currently learning to operate the new systems. They will conduct their first live-firing exercises already in the next training year," he said.

It was reported earlier that the Eastern Military District’s air defense units had received ten Strela-10MN systems in the autumn of 2015. This year, systems of this type have arrived for units stationed in south Russia. The Strela-10 air defense missile system is designed to defend units in various combat situations and on the march from attack and reconnaissance aircraft diving and flying at low and ultralow altitudes. The Strela-10M4 is an advanced version of the Strela-10 system, which is able to search for and eliminate targets 24 hours a day in limited visibility. The air defense missile system provides for an autonomous and automatic sector-wide search for targets.

    Russian Ground Forces: News #2 - Page 20 Russia_Western_Military_District_troops_receive_new_Strela_10MN_mobile_air_defense_missile_system_640_001

The Strela-10M4 air defense missile system is armed with eight 9M333/9M37M/9M37MD surface-to-air missiles. The system has a maximum range of 5,000 meters. It can hit targets flying at a speed of 420 m/s at a maximum altitude of 3,500 meters. The system is capable of accomplishing combat tasks during jamming. The missile reloading time is about 10 minutes. The system’s chassis is an adapted version of the MTLB tracked prime mover. Unlike the baseline Strela-10, the Strela-10M4 system needs only minor debugging, which makes the process of its upgrade much easier."
