they are correct, clearly underlining that the effort to take Mosul is done in coordination with Syrian Gov. Mosul will be the last blow against ISIS under this guise.
I think ISIS will start fading and being far more underwhelming than it ever was, but still will be a threat.

Re: IRAQ - Fight on Islamic State: News #2
Actually rather interesting... the altitude would mean steeper angle of fire which would be very useful if firing HE rounds.
In some cases the elevation would mean being able to fire at targets hiding behind low frontal cover and with regard to firing HE rounds if you fire horizontally a round that misses by a few cms might not impact the ground for a kilometre or more, but firing from a steep angle means if you miss by a few cms it will still hit the ground nearby and explode perhaps till hitting the target with fragments...
A UAV view without the UAV cost.
Of course the obvious problem is it is fairly exposed and would come under sniper fire to disable it.

Re: IRAQ - Fight on Islamic State: News #2
RIp the guys in the BMP. It seem they managed to shoot off one round from the 73mm but it was too late... the daesh VBIED was too close.
Don't understand what happened with the tank though... anyway it seems urban combat they should always have good UAV coverage to spot VBIEDs from a long distance beyond the line of sight of troopers.
Meanwhile. The southern front the National Police is now 3km from Mosul Airport and in the western front the PMU is nearing Tel Afar Airbase after clearing out the dozens of villages they've over run in the past 2 weeks.
In the eastern front, the army and Specfor are nearing the centre of Mosul and the fight gets more desperate by the daeshis every day.

There was project in Yugoslavia, based on M-84 chasis, which had mechanical hand couple m tall with optronics and ATGMs on top. It was supposed to be tank-destroyer.

They may be "in TelAfar" but it is only the airfield by the look of it. It seems that the PMU are carefully avoiding all the towns, concentrating on cutting all the road links to end ISIS supplies.sheytanelkebir wrote:now the PMU are in Tel Afar... lets see if the turks are up for it.
The Iraqis are not totally stupid, the last thing they will want to do is to threaten the populations that the Turks believe they have a right to protect thereby giving the Turks a reason to invade in force, something the Iraqis are unlikely to be able to stop.
This is the Shia Crescent they are creating, next stop Deir and Palmyra cutting off ISIS from Jordan as well as Iraq

actually tel afar is predominantly SHIA Turkmen that the Turks seem blissfully unaware of... Today tel afar is therefore mostly deserted since the Shias were all either massacred or managed to escape when Daesh (at that time with the tacit support of Barzani's KDP forces) invaded it.
Many of the PMU fighters going to Tel Afar are unsurprisingly... Shia Turkmen from Tel Afar!
here's a tank that was hit by a Daesh anti tank missile earlier last week.

Did they really aimed at the turret ring? Also that Gun looks chipped, thermal sleeve looks nailed, I suppose they had a look at at and it still runs the rounds, for the sake of your guys.

Re: IRAQ - Fight on Islamic State: News #2
well at muaskar al muthanna they are rebuilding all the damaged ones... some have been battered with multiple atgm and rpg hits and still rebuilt. but at what cost is the question... since the iraqis have only 146 hulls to play with, they do try to make sure that all are removed and rebuilt.
meanwhile loads of BMP-1 and T72s are arriving from various sources to fill out the real massive gap in armour and fire support. I'd guess that rebuilding an abrams costs more than 5-6 old T72s.

Thank god, these guys are getting less and less opportunities to play the attrition game.

and here's that famous SVBIED ramming into an abrams...
we can see that the gun barrel and front hull are completely charred... but the turret has managed to turn afterwards at least.

Nice. Abrams is a beast.
Not sure about the crew's SA.. or maybe there's good reason they did not react in a timely fashion.
