And they are also very useful for barrel-bombing defenseless civilians.

Defenceless civilians who seem to be able to live with ruthless head chopping terrorists for several years without problems... in fact it is probably safe to say these civilians are most likely the families of those head chopping terrorists who offer support and likely their children when they get to fighting age... in terms of fighting a guerilla war these people are the support and supply network... they are in effect the swamp.

Turkish troops themselves should fight with these armored vehicles on the front-lines, as the FSA are not familiar with them, and do not know how to properly use them to a good effect.

Turkish troops are not required... every battle with Assads forces and the terrorists means less terrorists... as long as Syrian forces kill the armed terrorists everything is fine.

While you rejoice over the FSA fleeing keep in mind that this whole offensive is a humanitarian catastrophe.

No it isn't... these are ISIS, and Al Quada loving people... these are the people who danced when the twin towers came down in the US... I am surprised the west is supporting them, but the west is so easily blind... anything that upsets Russia must therefore be good...

I also wonder if blindly supporting the tyrannical Alawite minority is really worth a serious deterioration in relations with Turkey.

Turkey is supposed to be separating the bad terrorists from the moderate terrorists and they aren't doing that because there is no such thing as moderate terrorists... they are all the same, so now Assads forces are dealing with some of them... Turkey should be happy, but of course they are not.

It is they who sheltered Nazi war criminals after the war, despite being a Soviet Block state. I find them disgusting.

Werner Von Braun was a Nazi War Criminal... who looked after him and gave him a nice house and a very good paying job and all the resources he needed and brought all his mates over to the US too?

You know the Black Sea Fleet needs to sail through the Turkish straits to get to Syria.

They do... and the gas that Turkey uses for energy comes from Russia too and they will also earn lots of money on transit fees for the gas that goes through their country to the EU... so can you tell me again why Turkey should be upset at evil Assad killing terrorists in his own country?

Lets not forget the Turks are one of the countries that started this conflict, there is a price for every action and part of Turkey's price for what it did is refugees or are you ignorant enough not to realize for every action comes a consequence.

Indeed.... Turkey probably made an enormous fortune buying cheap oil from ISIS in both Syria and Iraq and then selling it full price on the international market... but that money has obviously disappeared into lots of secret Swiss bank accounts never to be seen again...

Syrian choppers do not have good enough electronics for those rolls, The only thing they can do now is transport.

No big deal... artillery isn't as precise as direct attack by cannon or rocket or bomb from a helo, but it gets the job done... it is just that a lot more goat fuckers are going to die with the terrorists... which will probably suit Turkey better because they don't want those sort of migrants... I suspect most will end up going on to Europe if Europe does not hand over the billions of dollars they promised Turkey to help them deal with the migration problem but never actually paid... I am sure europe wont mind another influx of a few million model citizens...

Cannot believe the stupidity of the individuals posting here.

And that friend will be the biggest mistake ever ,that erdogan could do.. because the treaty of
the Montreux Convention ,is an international law that regulates the free passage of all nations who live
there in the black sea.. and if deny Access to Russia to its own naval ports ,it will defacto be seen by
international laws and russia as a declaration of war...

And if you have any brains ,you will know Turkey stand not a chance in a million . when during soviet times
the turkey foreign minister threaten to block soviet union from the strait.. he was told by his soviet counterpart
that they only need 2 bombs to reopen it .  lol1

and turkey will be a sitting duck all his cities with the obsolete air defenses they have ,
i guarantee you ,that erdogan will not dare to do that.. because he have no chance of winning a war..
vs russia..an europe hates turkey ,and american too.. and when he shoot down the russian plane. that
was busy fighting terrorist , and he later ran away to NATO for protection ,they told him.. you are on your own..

Nobody with in europe ,neither american will risk a nuclear war ,with russia ,if turkey provoke russia into
a war. So all that Russia needs to do is start sinking one by one turkey navy , and hitting turkey economic
zones ,bomb afte bomb and they will have to surrender fully to Russia if they don't want to see their entire
country destroyed.. either conventionally or with nukes... so sorry for you..  If erdogan is so stupid ,to start
a war against Russia.. he will make it very easy for Putin ,because he will tell all his nation ,that russia is at war
and turkey declared it on them and so they will fight to reopen it.. and not only turkey will re-open the strait
withing days closed ,but he will abandon syria too ,with his tail between his legs..  Wink

Putin is well aware.. that if he allow turkey to do a naval blockade ,it will be inviting other nations to do
the same in other zones.. and this like i said ,it is on a treaty ,that states , that if turkey blocks the strait of Bosporus and Dardanelles straits to russia ,is defacto a declaration of war.. and it will be game over for him.
his own military will remove him from power in a second, in a coup ,before if he ever dares to demand a war with russia and will declare him , a nut.. mentally ill and no longer qualified to run the country. For far less he got a coup just years ago..

last point ,you condemn alawites.. but you have no problem with The armenian genocide of turkey ,
in 1.2 millions of civilians executed by turkey ,just to steal their lands..  and all this is known ,thanks
to the nazi german ambassador.. that the genocide of turks on armenians.. even for nazis was seen as
extreme for them.. turkish past government that erdogan worship crucified and impaled thousands of civilians women and children ,just because of their hate of christians..and for taking their lands..

Even United  States ,Europe ,russia, canada, all of NATO minus turkey, recognize the armenian genocide.. and it is very well documented with newspapers reports and photos.of the entire thing..  Armenians lived there first
in turkey ,and had a big nation there since the bible times . ,before turkey even existed..

    Syrian War: News #20 - Page 31 Arm_pompeus-sm\

even american navy saw how turkey burned to the ground , entire armenian cities..

    Syrian War: News #20 - Page 31 Smyrna-02

strong images inside so be cautious..

    http://www.genocide-museum.am/eng/gen_musium.php

So i fail to see a difference between Erdogan and his supporters and Isis and alqaeda leaders..
turkey deny the armenian genocide ,and now is leading another one , against syrians.. by arming terror groups and invading them.

Everything going well. SAA, just keep advancing. Must not stop. If Turkey provide obstacle. Then go around them. Until all IDLIB liberated. Instead of using Russian or Syrian airforce against Rats and Rat master. Because Rats have some SAM. Use artillery. Against those units that open fire. Otherwise leave the Turks alone for now. They have no plan for Syria. Either political or economic or military. With regard to SDF request from SAA, to help push Turks back. I think SAA, should only do this, if kurds agree to work with SAA, to push yank out of East Syria and participate in peace plan and reject separatism and join constitutional committee. Keep on the good work. After IDLIB, more work needed to eject Yanks and stop Usrael bombings by counter attack or liberation of Golan. Move.

Ah, the old myth (or propaganda BS) of the "barrel-bomb". Syria uses russian helicopters. Russian helicopters are capable of dropping standard bombs. And the syrian air force still got hundred of thousands of bombs = no need to build makeshift explosive devices.

Some of the fleeing people are headchoppers and their families. Others are civilians that flee fighting (which every normal people would do) but they will come back after the syrian army liberated their towns. And they are fleeing now because they´re able to do so now, after the "freedom fighters" are running away and can´t keep them under control.

A barrel bomb would be less efficient than a modern cast bomb design... it would also be less effective and therefore not more deadly to civilian or military targets.

Its main feature would be low cost... so the western objection must be that if you are killing people you have to do it with expensive weapons... doing it on the cheap is not acceptable?

Ah I see you felt the need to be an A-Hole, Yes those old outdated choppers will be so useful against modern MANPADS. Think before you type buddy.

Assads already lost three choppers and the Rebels have only had MANPADS for a few days. You do know Assad doesn't have many choppers right? and replacing choppers takes time not that he can, I doubt Syria can even produce Choppers, Russia isn't about to hand over modern choppers to them.

Comments like yours make me roll my eyes.

Who cares about choppers? Drones is the name of the game now.

There are posts out there claiming that there are Tu-160s at Hmeimim. Seem to be due to misreading this satellite photo. They are actually An-124s.

Can anyone explain to me how Syria being ruled by a tyrannical and selfish minority of around 15% is supposed to be somehow "democratic" and a "beneficial" thing?

    About Armenians:

Also keep in mind Putin's strange links to Germany and his obvious lack of enthusiasm for fighting against the Ukrainian nationalists.

Is Putin controlling Assad, or is it the other way around?

Assad is an Alawite, but apparently was voted by the majority of the Syrian population, including sunni muslims, shia muslims, christians and kurds.

Why do you say it was tyrannical?

It is possible that in the past the life was better for some minorities than others, in that case I hope that after the war will end they will improve the social system and equality.

Anyway, if not for Assad the life for the Christians there would have been even worse... and the Christians have been in Syria much longer than the Muslims. Don't forget that saint Paul was converted on the way to Damascus...

Anyway, Soviet Union was the worst about it, where the Russians, even if they were majority of the population, were always coming after all other nationalities in terms of privileges, representations, and actual hold of effective power.

There are Christians in the FSA.

Assad is so "loved" by the non-Alawites that he would have been overthrown a long time ago, if not for the massive foreign support his regime has received from Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah.

Lets face it, his regime is artificially propped-up.

Syria was not a democratic country before the civil war started there, and that is one of the main reasons the civil war started to begin with.

Under the rule of the Assad family it was always a dictatorship.

Looks to me like after Stalin's death U.S.S.R. was ruled by ethnic Ukrainians, at least until the 1980's all the Soviet heads of state were ethnic Ukrainians (with Andropov being the first non-Ukrainian since Stalin). I guess that explains why the ethnic Russians were somewhat neglected. The ethnic Ukrainians simply took advantage of the system to self-aggrandize themselves.

I know that there were inequalities, and i spoke with some syrian refugees in Germany that did not like Assad, even if you cannot take for granted everything said by people that left their countries (e.g. I know in proportion much more americans that don't like trump....)

Anyway there were inequalities and most of the power and political influence was in control of some groups... is it much different from US or other western states?

The main difference is that most of our states did not have a large percentage of easily brainwashed young muslims that were corrupted by a terrorist agenda with dreams of a new islamic golden age and a lot of money, support and weapon from several countries, plus huge influss of armed and trained terrorists from half of the world coming in our countries (we just have easily brainwashed self hating idiots that want to destroy their own history and culture, and a lot of so called refugees, that in most cases (but not all) are anything but honest refugees but that's another matter)

With those condition it's difficult to avoid a civil war... in the early 50s Iran was lead by a democratic and loved leader
(Mosaddegh), but that did not save him from a foreign organised coup....

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded on Saturday that Syrian government forces immediately withdrew from areas close to Turkish observation posts in Idlib, backtracking from his previous pledge to wait for the move until the end of February.

It seems to me that the push from the north could have been intentionally stopped to reduce casualties. Its main function was to scare the shit out of all the terrorists east of it, encouraging them to flee west before it was too late.

15% is within the western standards of democracy. Macron had 20% in the first turn, Trump and Hillary were the two candidats but both have more haters than supporters, Merkel is at power as long as the "dictator" Putin, UK officials have no power and are controled by the City ...

I just opened the link sent by "odin"... what bunch of bs... he is lucky that the Armenians are not so politically influential as the Israeli... had he tried to post his negationistic bs about the other famous genocide of last century he would be in serious trouble

I think the most important Russian 'stuff' at the moment are being delivered by air so no need for the M4 quite yet.

    No really..

the m4 is important because will allow Russian base to provide a constant supply of armor ,tanks
and artillery from Russia ->lattakia -> aleppo..  or the other way.. from aleppo to latakia.. depending where
the heavy armor is need.. and as you know you can't  transport by air dozens of t-90  or t-72b3 tanks..

Russia perhaps is trying to spread turkey military in the entire front.. who knows.. but M4 is extremely important..turkey is giving long range self propeled artillery to the terrorist that odin the turk support.. and that artillery can hit russian base idlib.. so to reinforce the latakkia front.. M4 highway also needs to be liberated.

however the bonus of taking western aleppo now..that is very mountainous maybe could be to enhance the air defenses coverage ,of the entire zone..aleppo and idlib zone.. because mountains can obstruct the line of sight
of s-400 .. it will push enemy airforces from syrian army farther from aleppo (like israel ,turky or US) if radars and airdefenses deployed in western aleppo highest mountains. but this is a guess.. haven't seen yet a topography map , of northern syria.. highest positions are important like mountains ,it always give better range and view and can't be rolled by tanks ,it also allow cheap manpads to reach very high altitude flying drones like predators or global hawk just using cheap manpads..

    in more news..

relations between Erdogan and Pussia are all time lowest.. since the fake honeymoon. Now Erdogan openly
accuse Russia of cheating turkey in lybia.. that Russian special forces are there and Sputnink reporting that Erdogan pass weapons and armor to Alnusra front in syria..

No idea what Erdogan really expect to win in syria.. by trying to restart a major war ,   with turkey alone in one side.. and Russia ,Syria and IRan in the other.. it will be a massacre.. of turk soldiers.. if he goes full scale war
against Russia.. and any massacre of turk soldiers will mean he will be history , his own military will kick him from power..  before erdogan go complete nuts mode ,and declare full scale war on Russia.  Maybe he hopes
Americans will help him with predator drones and with long range tactical rocket artillery that US have and intelligence. and perhaps with a new wave of fresh new terrorist.. they will not give him things ,he can later use
against them.. and will demand erdogan to become first loyal puppet before any help.

    update..
Russia military will setup observations outpost along the M5 highway.. to block Turkey from attempting
to advance against syrian army positions there..  So a confrontation between Turkey and Russia is a matter
of hours or days .Now SAA can use Russia observation along m5  as a shield  if their positions shelled by turkey artillery ,the russian airforce will destroy turkey artillery. russia if it is shelled by turkey rebels.. then the same.. no difference. Russia will return the fire and any one attacking them..

This is what awaits [@ODIN] turkey army/alnusra brothers if they dare to target Russian military positions..

Even American generals have show major surprise of how effective are
Russia artillery forces..  Turkey army will experience the same thing hitler army had to face..
when they tried to enter moscow..  you shall not pass..   russia

Well.. it looks SAA have done very well in western aleppo. perhaps better than they expected and terrorist and turkey army fleeing the zone as fast they see the SAA to enter on it.. this is bad news for mr @ODIN
    and his hero president Erdogan.

    from syrian perspective..
a general poster @Canthama told..  @7 hours ago...

Total collapse of the turkish backed terrorists in western, Aleppo , they are running like they can, we could have vast areas liberated until tomorrow…even Anadan plains, rats are fleeing after massive losses in Mansoura and al Jazira/Rashidin 3.

Recall I mentioned the turkish regime forces went to Atarib in the morning and left in the evening of yesterday, so today this very same force went to regiment 111 near Darat Izza, arrived in the morning to set up huge base….they are leaving now since the terrorists’ frontline against the SAA has collapse all over western Aleppo,   it is no longer safe for the turks to stay in Regiment 111,  they are leaving to Afrin, it may indicate the SAA will get to Regiment 111 in 1 or 2 days, the collapse is huge and may reach all the way to Bab al Hawa. Simply incredible.

So there you see.. either Erdogan allowed his army to retreat.. or the turkey army is just dissobeying
orders and refusing to fight.. my best guess is the first one..  because turks ,are robots and they just
follow orders blindly from any totalitarian dictator like Erdogan is. that banned freedom of expression
in turkey and freedom of media and jail any opposition to him.. that critisize him..

on a side note.. one of the surprises , Erdogan airforce could face if fly over Syrian territory..
or their tanks too.. if get hit by one of this..

    from 2017... report..
    https://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/forget-north-korea-russia-now-building-emp-weapons-23760

and turkey tanks what they could face in battle field..

In a fight between SAA and Turkey army..for full liberation of idlib , we could see the use of emp weapons fired on Turkey armor.. if Russia supplied them to SAA. basically this don't kill the soldiers.. but produce the same EMP effect of a nuclear attack..  Shocked  and completely burn the electronics ,computers of their tanks or infantry vehicles.. in a 5km square zone..  russia

So effectively if Russia provide SAA with many of their advanced toys.. if you see turkey army ,abandoning
their tanks to their luck.. leaving them in the battlefield.. it could be emp attacked..  Cool
since nobody was killed ,they will get the idea their tanks just failed.. and will not know it was an electric attack.

this is also useful against drones ,and planes.. anything with electrics is burned.. as if it was a nuclear attack.
then this leave Turkey army with an useless tank or useless artillery.. in the ground.. Cool

This weapon could be incredibly useful for Iran or Syria ,for example to bypass Israel air defenses.  if fired this emp attack first to break the air defenses and clear the path and a ballistic missile following 10 seconds later
    to finish the job.. Smile

maybe this is how Russia have been capturing NATO and Israel missiles in syria ,in near perfect conditions..
but but turned off .. that could be repaired later. and understand well how they work..
