Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #4
Nice.
Reminds me of some funny videos I have recently seen on Youtube regarding some delusional Canucks.
There are a few videos about the Russian aggression in the arctic and Russia wanting not just control of the NSR, or northern sea route via Russian waters... but also the NWP or North West Passage through Canadian territory, and that if they only had their Avro Arrows in operation then they could stop Russian aggression.
Lots of videos showing MiG-31s and Tu-160s helpless in the presence of these mach 3.5 super planes from Canada Aye....
Ignoring of course the fact that the MiG-31 and Tu-160 were developed in the absence of the Arrow... if the Arrow had been developed then the Soviets would have developed their aircraft to be able to counter them too.
The videos of course show F-35s trying to deal with the Russian aggression and failing and then showing how the Arrow would enable Canada to wipe the floor with them Ruskies... with one hand behind their back of course...

Su-35S flights of the Western Military District air squadron in Karelia
For the first time, divisions of the Air Force and Air Defense Army units of the Northern Fleet have worked out the technique of repelling an attack by drones of a conventional enemy using automatic small arms and anti-aircraft artillery. The training, which took place in the Murmansk region, involved the Ka-29 helicopter and the Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system.

The R-77/R-27 combo seems to be standard for the Su-35S.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #4
Nice Videos...
That video from Chechnia in 2000 is interesting... just looking at the video it seems all the special troops didn't wear helmets and most carried either an AK-74 with an under barrel 40mm grenade launcher or RPK-74 or SVD or PKM.
They seemed to be rather better equipped uniform wise than I remember for many conflicts, where most of the time even their tops and trousers didn't often match and irrespective of the weather or conditions they would have a mix of camouflage for different regions and different times of year, but the uniforms in this video looked rather good.
You will notice the R-27ET carried is the IR guided model so carrying it would be useful for tail shots at targets trying to run away as the R-27ET has more range and higher speed than the R-73... but uses the same seeker if I remember correctly, so at lower levels where missile range is shorter the bigger heavier missile will be better able to chase down a target trying to run away.
There is no IR guided model of the R-77 so keeping the older larger R-27 missiles is useful.
For close in manouvering targets of course the TVC equipped R-73 would still be the dogfight missile of choice.
The older R-27s will also be older stock and probably would be used up first if possible too.
Nice to see the Ka-29 with 80mm rockets and 23mm gun pods too.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #4
Oops, sorry... looking closer those are R-27Ts not the larger R-27ETs.
They still have a longer range than the R-73s, but only about 60-65km compared with the 75-80km range of the R-27ETs.
