Briefing by Russian Defence Ministry

Units of the Lugansk People's Republic, continuing their offensive, blockaded the northern outskirts of Kremennaya and the eastern outskirts of Metelkino. During the night, up to 40 Ukrainian nationalists of 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, 1 artillery battery, 2 IFVs and 4 vehicles of various purposes were destroyed.

High-precision air-based weapons destroyed 6 Ukrainian military facilities, including 5 ammunition and missile-artillery weapons depots in Boguslavskoe, Krestishche, Reznikov, Velikaya Novoselka and 1 fuel depot.

Air defence means of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down 1 Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter near Lyubimovka and 8 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles near Lisichansk, Donetsk, Chernigov, Korosun and Novomikhailovskoe, including 1 Bayraktar TB-2 near Vakhovka.

Operational-tactical and army aviation hit 52 military assets of Ukraine. Among them: 3 command posts, 3 multiple launch rocket systems, Buk-M1 anti-aircraft complex, illumination and guidance radar of S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, as well as 10 areas of military equipment concentration and 16 AFU strong points.

In total, 124 aircfaft and 81 helicopters, 353 unmanned aerial vehicles, 1,839 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 202 multiple launch rocket systems, 773 field artillery and mortars, as well as 1,711 units of special military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed during the operation.

Now that Russian forces withdrew from some areas, the Ukrainian photographers have come in

Russia can't win if they don't use the air force and a bunch of 250 and 500kg bombs daily.

They need to increase the use of drones and coordinate attacks on air defence sites. Bring back those tochka on the front, spot the AD with drones and attack it in 2 minutes.

They have hundreds of toshka in reserve.

Some of the attacks are fresh, like drone videos. But some of the footage are old with already burned-out equipment. There was little action last few days.

Re-read my first sentence in that post. I questioned whether this was the right thread and Garry left it here.

Whether it was true or not, I put it up as it seemed to me to be quite a good article on that piece of equipment and how it functioned so might have belonged somewhere in the Russian Army section of the site.

What logical physical reason is there for Russian AWACS, over the horizon radar, and constant fighter flights, not have detected ukrainian Mi-24s? Dont say IFF, because if youre gonna claim ukrainian and russian aircraft have the same IFF signals, then either you are retarded or the russian military is retarded.
Could russian air defence detect low flying cruise missiles if they couldnt detect a couple of ukrainian helicopters?

First, take a look at the very first physical map of the area.
It is fully covered by the rivers flowing in gorges. One can get to the center of Belgorod not sticking its nose above the horizon for one meter.
Maybe, if there would be a 24/7 coverage of A-50s, they could have spotted something - but that is questionable.

If they followed roads and flew with 80km/h most radars, even of an AEW plane, would "think" they were cars.

Did they scrambled fighter jet to intercept them ?

Where are the pantsirs with optical systems ? The area was already attacked twice.

Very worried about that. Altought is understandable in a military point of view, for UA to hit targets on the frontier, is nevertheless an escalation of the conflict.

It was indeed some very professional job they have performed well under the circumstances. The most crucial aspect of such operation is very good and very detailed intel about own positions and enemies formations. Somebody was giving them either very good intel.

However it's easy to understand how it can be a genuine fk-up. The relief of that area is very hilly, and from Ukrainian lines its only 40km. Fighter jet cover can be assessed by NATO radars. And Russian anti-air may have reservations over shooting as there are plenty of Russian helicopters returning from missions.

The Ukrainians could simply have chosen the right window, sent the helicopters in flying low, and then got out.

A missile was shot down over Belgorod.

I was thinking the same. They use the same helicopters as russians and at low altitude IFF systems may have hard times.
