What annoys me is that Russia did not foresee this, the Ukrainians should be decimated in terms of air power. They should be in the Stone Age.
And I say it again, it's a mistake not to kill Zielinsky. It would be a psychological blow.
Mariupol MUST FALL ALREADY.
Mariupol must be taken with the minimum loss of manpower possible, as those are experienced troops that we do not have an infinite supply of. If that requires a slow and methodical approach then so be it. In practice there is only Azovstal left, from which a breakthrough of whatever scale was attempted today and ended in disaster like the previous one attempted from the Illich factory. Nevertheless they still have considerable forces there.
For the next urban battle it's necessary to introduce mini-UCAVs, robots, BMPTs, guided mortar shells and more specialist infantry equipment, as well as reorganizing to heed whatever lessons are learned from Mariupol. Many fighters have gained experience from Mariupol, and although many were lost - this is only a fraction of the total involved in the battle.
The enemy meanwhile has been unable to preserve practically any of its fighters from Mariupol. Very few managed to sneak out. If we talk about Kharkov, they do nontheless have those who managed to withdraw from urban battles in outlying settlements such as Izyum, as well as a cadre of foreign mercs.
They also know that there will be no evacuation for them, and that their leaders will order them to make suicide breakouts rather than have them surrender.
