In a built up area they would be sitting ducks with bolt actions. AK-74 would leave them no chance. In fields - I would argue, but that's just insane. These guys are reservist protecting the rear areas like supply lines and towns. The Mosin-Nagants are fitted with optics for sniping. They will have plenty of buddies around with AKs as backup or spotters.

Briefing by Russian Defence Ministry

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue the special military operation in Ukraine.

High-precision air-based missiles of the Russian Aerospace Forces have destroyed aviation equipment at the Kanatovo military airfield near Kirovograd, 1 large ammunition depot in Nikolaev and 1 fuel storage facility for Ukrainian military equipment near Zhovtnevoe, Nikolaev Region.

In addition, the forward command post of the 17th Separate Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 4 areas of manpower and military equipment concentration, as well as 2 depots of military equipment at a military airfield near Kramatorsk have been hit.

Operational-tactical and army aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces have hit 93 areas of Ukrainian manpower and military equipment concentration.

Missile troops have hit 2 AFU command posts, 1 artillery battery at a firing position, as well as 2 launchers and 1 transport and loading vehicle of Tochka-U tactical missile system during the night.

Artillery units have hit 32 command posts, 5 ammunition depots, 403 strongholds, areas of manpower and military equipment concentration, and 51 Ukrainian artillery positions.

The attacks have resulted in the elimination of up to 600 nationalists, as well as 61 units of weapons and military equipment.

Russian air defence means have shot down 3 Ukrainian aircraft in the air: 1 Su-24 near Zmeiniy Island, 1 Su-27 near Ingulets, Kherson Region, and 1 Su-25 near Koshevoe, Dnepropetrovsk Region.

In addition, 14 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles have been shot down overnight near Verbovka, Velykaya Kamyshevakha, Brazhkovka, Veseloe, Peremoga, Bolshie Prokhody in Kharkov Region, Barvinok in Kherson Region, Avdeevka, Dolya, Kamenka in Donetsk People's Republic, Severodonetsk in Lugansk People's Republic, including 1 Bayraktar-TB2 near Zmeiniy Island.

In addition, 2 Smerch multiple-launch rockets have been shot down in the air near Tarasovka and Vasilievka.

In total, 149 aircraft and 112 helicopters, 726 unmanned aerial vehicles, 288 anti-aircraft missile systems, 2,834 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 325 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,306 field artillery and mortars, as well as 2,646 units of special military vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed during the operation.

Any estimates as to how many cruise missiles (Kalibr, Kh-55, Kh-101, Iskandar-K) Russia has fired since Feb 24? I think they have used more cruise missiles in the last 2.5 months than used in Syria over the last 6 years. Must be the largest combat use of cruise missiles ever!

According to the US they fired more than 2000 missikes since the start. However it is counting even smaller once like kh-25. It is also from the US who have no intel inside russian forces so it's a made up claim regarding the impacts in Ukraine. Not reliable at all.

In Syria they used them either for the show of force or for testing.

Yeah I don't think 2000 is realistic. 2000 Kalibrs and Kh-101s would have smoked the living hell out of Ukraine by now. I would say around 500 cruise missiles would be a more realistic number. That would be about 7 missiles per day on average since Feb 24.

Well ... it didn't look like that.
A few destroyed buildings, that was all. Sure, they hit precisely where they should, still ... there was no space for 30+ missiles.

This is a kind of repetition of US attack on the claimed "chemical weapon facility" in Syria, when they said to hit it with "dozens of missiles", and the number of 57 was told at some occasions.
To hit that empty facility with "dozens of missiles", one must have been insane. There was nothing to be hit with that number. But sound powerful, right? A nice topic for the evening news.

Kalibr and kh-101 are good for hiting Lviv area but closer to the border they will use kh-59 or kh-38 as well as Smerch or Iskanders.

They also should have used Tochka which they still have a huge number in reserve.

The hits came from the back which suggest a chopper was used.

I get the HEAT warheads expand most energy forwards to penetrate armour but I would have thought standing literally next to the impact would have been fatal
