    What a load of BS...

Try this... it sounds like a completely different incident... murder of Ukrainian and storming of Ukrainian base my A$$.

Crimea military center shooting resembles sniper fire at Kiev’s Maidan
    Published time: March 19, 2014 18:18
    Edited time: March 19, 2014 21:14

The shooting in the Crimean city of Simferopol bears a strong resemblance to the actions of snipers in central Kiev, as February violent clashes, local prosecution said. Russia considers the shooting that left two killed and two injured a “provocation.”

Speaking at the press-briefing the next day after the gunfire in Simferopol, Crimean prosecutor, Natalya Poklonskaya, shed very little light on what exactly happened outside the Ukrainian military topography and navigation center.

Stressing that the investigation is still on-going, she recounted how several unarmed officers of the Ministry of Defense of Russia had come to oversee progress on a joint matter regarding mapping. Their visit was earlier agreed with the commander of the Ukrainian armed forces and with Kiev.

Several of their colleagues, who at the time were outside the building of the compound, were fired upon.

“While cartographers were on the territory of the center, some self-defense unit representatives, protecting the center from the outside, came under fire,” Poklonskaya said.

Bullets came from a similar direction, but with varying trajectories, resulting in the death of two officers on both sides and a further two injuries.

Single shots were fired “simultaneously in the direction of Crimean self-defense units and Ukrainian servicemen.” Investigators have found bullets at the scene, but Poklonskaya was reluctant to reveal what kind of gun was used.

“Experts familiar with the crime scene believe the crimes perpetrated today bear a strong resemblance to the actions of snipers on the Maidan on February 18-21,” she summed up.

If this turns out to be the case, she said, it is possible that the attack was possibly aimed at “provoking clashes between the servicemen of Ukraine and Crimea.”

Crimean prosecutor, Natalya Poklonskaya (RIA Novosti / Taras Litvinenko)

Now investigators are working on establishing a number of attackers and their exact location.

Earlier, the local interior ministry said in a press release that the shoots came from a house under construction opposite the center.

There has also been information that a sniper was detained. But later this information appeared to be bogus.

At the briefing, the prosecutor stressed that no one had been detained in connection with the shooting.

Despite very little details immediately available, shortly after news of the shooting broke, Western media was fast to point a finger at Russia, blaming the attack on “pro-Russian forces.” This view was shared in Kiev, which in an immediate reaction authorized Ukrainian troops stationed in Crimea to use firearms to “defend their lives."

However, in Russia the shooting is widely seen as a provocation after Crimea and Sevastopol were accepted into the Russian Federation and the treaty was signed.

"What happened in Simferopol yesterday was beyond any doubt a provocation and its style suggests that the sniper there acted in the same manner as the ones on Maidan," Russian Black Sea Fleet Commander Aleksandr Vitko. "Two people died as a result," he added. "Nonetheless, the hotheads in the incumbent Ukrainian leadership said something about permission to shoot. I'd like to warn everyone in this connection and especially the men and officers of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, God forbid you to make a single shot, even from a slingshot. Matches are not toys, and I'd like to ask everyone to understand it in the very literal sense."

The situation in Crimea was discussed in NATO between Russia’s Ambassador to the Alliance and its military officials.

"We have informed them that we see this incident as a provocation. The Russian troops were not involved in it; there was no storming of the Ukrainian military base as claimed by the authorities in Kiev. The incident is now being investigated, those guilty will not walk away from the responsibility," Russian Ambassador to NATO, Aleksandr Grushko, was cited by Interfax as saying.

Crimean authorities have shared this stance, saying that the shooting in Simferopol was indeed a provocation aimed at spreading a “spirit of hatred and fear.”

“Such provocative tactics of putting in confrontation opposing parties was systematically employed at Maidan in Kiev. In a similar way provocateurs are trying to blow up the peace and harmony in our house,” Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov said.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian coup-appointed Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a note of protest to Russia following the death of a Ukrainian soldier in Simferopol.

“Today he [the Russian charge d'affaires in Kiev, Andrey Vorobyev] was once again given a note against provoking armed incidents, violence and murder of Ukrainian soldiers," the Ministry said.

A criminal case has been launched after the shooting and the charges are in line with Article 115 of the Ukrainian criminal code – murder. But there is still a lot that is unclear about the attack. It was even less known on the evening it took place.

This, however, was not an obstacle for a stream of conflicting reports, speculating that Russian forces were “storming the base.”

RT’s team was one of the first to arrive at the scene. As they came to the base, RT producer, Lida Vasilevskaya, reported the center was already surrounded by men in camouflage and the situation was "calm."

She learned that the majority of the staff working at the military topography research center are women. The center’s area is rather small, and servicemen have only six machine guns and three Makarov guns to provide security.

It was confirmed to RT that the shooting did take place, but by that time it was unclear where the shooting had come from. This is yet to be investigated.

    http://rt.com/news/crimea-shooting-sniper-kiev-897/

Hmm.. snipers shooting people from both sides... where have we heard this before?

Most of the rest of the story is different too... an organised pre arranged visit becomes the armed storming of a base... I  have had no respect for western media for some time... this is a clear reason not to change this...

Clearly the Kiev Thugs are happy to kill their own to get what they want... reminds me of the KLA in Kosovo where they would attack police or army units near villages that didn't support them in the hope that the units would retaliate against the villages and get them on their side.

Hope they track down the shooter and make him talk...

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has started the preparations for terminating bilateral agreements with Ukraine related to the status and operation of the Black Sea Fleet, a Kremlin spokesman said Friday.
The decision was made at a meeting of Russia's Security Council chaired by President Vladimir Putin.
According to spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the agreements to be scrapped include the 1997 Agreement on the Status and Conditions of the Russian Federation Black Sea Fleet's Stay on Ukrainian Territory, which was extended in 2010.

And the ships afloat from Ukr Navy will join BSF when inspection has been done, probably half of the ships are obselete and head for scrapping. Some corvettes, mine sweepers, and landing ships will be refurbished.

Apparently Putin ordered those ships that won't be inducted into the BSF, to be returned to Ukrainian hands. What, does he feel sorry for the state of the Ukrainian fleet or what?

Don't understand such a course of action personally. Either we recognize them and don't touch their property, or their territory - or we don't recognize them, take the Crimea, seize all their property and don't give them back anything that can be later used against us, and prepare for war.

What kind of message is Russia sending by first seizing all their ships, keeping the juciest ones for themselves and giving the crappy ones back? Smile

They will not take space in ports and to avoid the cost for scraping. Showing some good will to relax some tensions is also not bad.

No point in trying to get good relations with these coup leaders... they wont listen to reason... but it never hurts to throw the small ones back... next time the Ukraine collapses they might have had some decent upgrades and be worth another look...  Twisted Evil

Russian naval base resumes in Crimea

The headquarters are in Sevastopol, where until March 19 were the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy

SEVASTOPOL, December 21. /TASS/. The Crimean naval base, a part of the Black Sea Fleet until 1996, is reconstituted fully, a representative of the Black Sea Fleet’s headquarters told reporters on Sunday.

"The headquarters are in Sevastopol, where until March 19 were the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy. The head is Captain Yuri Zemsky who previously was commander of a Navy division in the Mediterranean Sea," the representative said.

"The new units have joined the group of forces to provide coverage from the Black Sea from enemy’s ships."

The Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, a city with a special status on the Crimean Peninsula, where most residents are Russians, refused to recognize the legitimacy of authorities brought to power amid riots during a coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

Crimea and Sevastopol adopted declarations of independence on March 11. They held a referendum on March 16, in which 96.77% of Crimeans and 95.6% of Sevastopol voters chose to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the reunification deals March 18.

In the Soviet Union, Crimea used to be part of Russia until 1954, when Nikita Khrushchev, the first secretary of the USSR’s Communist Party, transferred it to Ukraine's jurisdiction as a gift.

Work to integrate the Crimean Peninsula into Russia’s economic, financial, credit, legal, state power, military conscription and infrastructure systems is actively underway now that Crimea has accessed to the Russian Federation.

Despite Moscow’s repeated statements that the Crimean referendum on secession from Ukraine was in line with the international law and the UN Charter and in conformity with the precedent set by Kosovo’s secession from Serbia in 2008, the West and Kiev have refused to recognize the legality of Crimea’s reunification with Russia.

Court Hearing on Crimea's Scythian Gold to Be Held January 21: Official

According to an official representative of the University of Amsterdam, the first court hearing on the return of Scythian gold to Crimea will take place on January 21.

MOSCOW, January 5 (Sputnik) — The first court hearing regarding the return from Netherlands of a collection of golden Scythian items belonging to four Crimean museums will be held on January 21, an official representative of the University of Amsterdam, which is the owner of the Allard Pierson Museum where the collection was exhibited, told RIA Novosti Monday.

“The first hearing will take place on January, 21” Yasha Lange said, adding that the Allard Pierson Museum is keeping in touch with all the parties concerned through their legal representatives.

A collection of more than 1,000 gold items was sent to the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam in February 2014 for an exhibition titled "Crimea: Gold and Secrets of the Black Sea." The precious metal artifacts came from five Ukrainian museums, four of which are located in Crimea.

In March, following Crimea's reunification with Russia, the Ukrainian government demanded the entire collection be returned to Kiev. Crimea has dismissed the claims.

The exhibition closed on August 31, but the items remain in the Netherlands. Late in November, the four Crimean museums filed a lawsuit to a court in Amsterdam demanding that the Allard Pierson Museum met its contractual obligations and return the Crimean part of the collection.

Crimea Putting Up Thousands of Tourist Signs in Time for Summer Season

Crimean authorities have been working on a project to put up several thousand modern, interactive signs for tourists for the upcoming summer tourism season, directing visitors to historical and cultural heritage sights, nature preserves, resorts and hotels.

MOSCOW, January 7 (Sputnik) Crimea's regional government is in the process of setting up nearly 7,000 signs for tourists for the upcoming summer season, directing visitors to the peninsula to historical and cultural heritage sites, nature preserves, resorts and hotels, Rossiyskaya Gazeta has reported.

Crimea's Deputy Minister of Tourism and Resorts Olga Burova noted that the project has been implemented under the auspices of Russia's Ministry of Culture, and that "the signs are aimed at making tourists' travels to Crimea as comfortable as possible."

The signs, in Russian and in English and featuring QR codes, arrows and distance indicators, are already being set up in Simferopol, Evpatoriya, and in Greater Yalta. The Russian Ministry of Culture has allocated 23.5 million rubles (about $370,000) for the installation of the signs.

A similar project, called "RFQR Sevastopol," is being set up in Sevastopol, with local government and investors dedicating roughly 40 million rubles (about $630,000) to the project. In addition to the installation of signs, the "Open City" project for the Hero City will include the creation of a unified tourism internet portal, as well as interactive information kiosks, to be set up across the city.

Sevastopol's cultural and historical sites will be furnished with 1,050 QR codes, through which tourists will be able to receive detailed information about the city's attractions.

Late last month, the European Union announced a new round of sanctions aimed at Crimea, banning European foreign investment into the region, preventing companies from providing technical and engineering services to Crimean-based businesses, prohibiting European ships from docking at Crimean ports, banning joint ventures and the supply of telecom, transport and energy production-related technologies.

Earlier in December, Russia and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Crimea and the Indian business group Indian-Crimean Partnership, aimed at deepening India's economic cooperation with the peninsula. According to Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov, the memorandum is aimed at creating a "high-tech bridge between both countries" via Crimea. Aksyonov had earlier noted that companies from across Europe and Asia had shown interest in investing into the region in areas including automotive manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, and energy.

On January 1st, a law turning Crimea into a free economic zone stepped into effect. The law includes a series of incentives for business, including tax breaks, a preferential customs regime, and state rebates for companies providing employees with social and medical insurance and pensions. The law also simplified the process of issuing visas to tourists, businesspeople and officials, who are now able to receive a 30 day entry visa right at the border.

SIMFEROPOL, January 19. /TASS/. The first ever official celebrations of Day of State Flag of the Republic of Crimea have been held in central square in Simferopol on Monday. Representatives of the "Russian Community of Crimea" public organization, servicemen of people's defense, members of the "Young League" Crimean organization of the United Russia party and city residents are taking part in the celebrations, CrimeaInform news agency said.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Mikhail Sheremet addressed a gala meeting, saying that "the colors of the Crimean flag symbolize the heroic past of the Crimean people, their hopes and aspirations and a multiple national identity of the population of Crimea." "Today's celebrations have imbued us with a feeling of respect for the national symbols and the realization of being associated with our great country, and have united all the people who live in Crimea. We are tone nation," Sheremet said. A huge, meters-long banner representing all the colors of the flag of the Republic of Crimea was hoisted in Lenin Square in Simferopol.

In April 1999, the Crimean parliament adopted a resolution “On the flag of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," which endorsed its shape, the colors of the Crimean flag and its status.

In October 2008, the Crimean parliament declared January 19 Day of the Flag of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. A bill on national holidays and memorable dates adopted on December 24, 2014 officially declared January 19 Day of State Flag of the republic

They would be fools to demand his resignation.. given that Klaus hasn't been president already for quite some time.

Normally though former presidents and prime ministers in Europe, once they finish with their position and being to voice their private positions, especially if pro-Russian - are ignored. Gorby's lamentations over belligerent Western policy over the last decade haven't been given the time of day in the BBC or any other foreign media; despite the lavish birthday party they threw for him in London.

But Klaus is quite a character and people still do pay attention to him, they can't shut him up.

State Council of Crimea to nationalize Interbank Currency Exchange

SIMFEROPOL, January 21. /TASS/. Crimea will nationalize the republic's Interbank Currency Exchange (ICEC). The move was authorized on Tuesday in a unanimous vote at a special session of the State Council.

The move follows nationalization of one of the largest energy companies in Crimea, Krymenergo. The republic's head, Sergey Aksyonov, told parliament lawmakers that the decision was of value to the region's people and urging them not to heed Ukrainian allegations of “violating some commitments”.

"All of us understand the need for this process despite continuous allegations of non-transparency and violation of commitments made by our opponents," he said. "We believe that Ukraine is doing just the same, particularly when deciding to recover property divested by those close to its ex-president.”

ICEC's establishment in 1995 was initiated by leading Crimean commercial banks. Fifteen banks and Ukrainian financial institutions were founder members. The organisation is tasked with trading and closing of foreign exchange sale and purchase agreements between exchange members, transfer of trading information to the clearing bank for forex payments and foreign exchange rate fixing.

Crimea State Council nationalizes Crimean subsidiary of Ukraine telephone monopoly

On February 2, the subsidiary asked Crimean PM to nationalize the enterprise, saying the company leadership was taking steps to move the existing assets of the Crimean affiliate out of the republic

SIMFEROPOL, February 11./TASS/. Crimea’s State Council unanimously passed a decision on Wednesday to nationalize the Crimean subsidiary of Ukraine’s major fixed line operator Ukrtelecom owned by oligarch Rinat Akhmetov.

On February 2, the subsidiary asked Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov to nationalize the enterprise, saying the company leadership was taking steps "to move the existing assets of the Crimean affiliate out of the Republic of Crimea".

It said in an appeal that moves by Ukrtelecom were jeopardizing the functioning of means of communication in Crimea.

Earlier, the Crimean authorities repeatedly cited unwillingness of the company leadership to cooperate. Up until recently, no attempts have been made to register the subsidiary for work in Crimea in accordance with the Russian legislation.

On February 10, Ukrtelecom fully cut telephone and Internet connections in Crimea, as well as suspended the activities of mobile operator Trimob it owns. Krymtelecom state company took over the servicing of Crimean clients cut off from communication.

Russian Federal Security Service seizes caches with weapons for mass riots in Crimea

Two caches with weapons and rounds of ammunition prepared by officers of the Ukrainian Berkut special police department were confiscated in the city of Yalta

SIMFEROPOL, February 17. /TASS/. Officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in Crimea have seized caches of the Right Sector Ukrainian ultranationalist far-right movement that were designed for organization of mass riots, the head of the regional FSB department in Crimea and Sevastopol Viktor Palagin said Tuesday.
"Two caches that were prepared here for the Right Sector, for organization of mass disorders and opposition to power bodies, have been seized," Palagin said at an extended meeting of the Crimean prosecutor’s office’s board.
He said two caches with weapons and rounds of ammunition were confiscated in the city of Yalta. They had been prepared by officers of the Ukrainian Berkut special police department, who supported the Ukrainian side in spring 2014.

Would be a delightful irony to supply the confiscated weapons and ammo to rebels in the Ukraine... they can't blame Russia for supplying them because ultimately they supplied them.

Five thousand people gather in Sevastopol to mark first anniversary of March 16 referendum

On March 16, 2014 Sevastopol took part in the Crimean referendum in which 95.6 % of people voted for the reunification with Russia

SEVASTOPOL, March 16 /TASS/. Five thousand people gathered for a rally and a concert in Sevastopol, a city of federal importance, on Monday to mark the first anniversary of the March 16 referendum in Crimea in which almost 96% of Crimean inhabitants voted for reunification with Russia, according to law enforcers.

Sevastopol’s Governor Sergey Menyailo conveyed the greetings of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to the people of Sevastopol.

"I have received an instruction from the defense minister to congratulate you on returning to your homeland. A year ago you said that you wanted to be back to Russia, and the president made that decision calmly and without bloodshed," Menyailo said.

Admiral Alexander Vitko, the Black Sea fleet commander, said that he was proud of living in Russia and proud of the inhabitants of Crimea and the people of Sevastopol who made the right choice a year before.

"This city showed the whole world that it does not trade with its history or values. Let me congratulate you on the holiday of justness," Alexander Zaldostanov, the leader of the Night Wolves biker club, said.

The concert was followed by fireworks.

On March 16, 2014 Sevastopol took part in the Crimean referendum in which 95.6 % of people voted for the reunification with Russia. The voters’ turnout at the referendum was 89.5%.
