The US wants to assert its power. Two carrier groups with F 35 are quite a show of strength,
I think only Syria has P-800s, and only a few of them. A large saturation attack is needed against an aircraft carrier group.
Moreover, Syria will not dare to attack CVN that much.
A new poll this week showed that support for Israel is cratering among young Americans. There has been a staggering collapse in support, support for Israel's recent actions in Gaza fell from 81% among those over 65, to just 27% among the 18-34 demographic.
