Russian-Made Crash Notification

They came too fast Shocked altimetre was dead for sure and they had no visibility.

A large plane like this is full of fuel when it takes off and normally takes off with way too much weight to safely land.

Normally it is not a problem because the plane is flying somewhere and by the time it gets there it has burned off 20+ tons of fuel so it is much lighter when it tries to land.

This aircraft tried to land without a big flight to burn off some fuel, so it was seriously over weight... which means it takes a lot more room to slow down and all the bumps on the runway incur more stress on the structure which is not designed to land at those sorts of weights.

Note the damage on the top of the fuselage on this Tu-22M which crashed in 2017.

Close examination of the Tu-22M3 crash video allows this conclusion.

They've nearly flown into the ground, nose down with a very late flare -> still sinking too quick & broke on impact.
Obviously horrendous visibility.
Is it just me or ground looks lower before the runway? Could cause them to think they were higher relative to the runway than they were.

A training round is not a weapon.

MOSCOW, September 4. /TASS/. Both pilots of the Sukhoi-25UB fighter-bomber lost in the Stavropol Region on Tuesday died in the air crash, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The Defense Ministry’s probe on the site of the Sukhoi-25UB crash in the Stavropol Territory has confirmed the death of both pilots. They failed to eject themselves," the Defense Ministry said.

The Sukhoi-25UB jet of Russia’s Aerospace Force crashed in the Stavropol Region on Tuesday. A source in the region’s law enforcement agencies said the crash occurred while the plane was performing a training flight. The crew failed to complete an aerobatics figure called dead loop and flew into the ground.

The plane carried no ammunition and crashed in an unpopulated area causing no destruction on the ground.

Tough day for the Russian Air Force. Earlier, an L-39 trainer aircraft crashed near Krasnodar, killing the cadet pilot. Now, a Su-27 fighter disappeared over the Black Sea, and is believed to have crashed into the sea.

And this is why you replace all these old jets.

The Western Military District announced that a Russian Su-30 (presumably Su-30SM) fighter crashed in Tver today. Both crewmembers ejected safely.

Su35 1:0 Su30SM.

I guess the su30SM crews will try to get a revenge .

The военный осведомитель channel is saying that the Su-30SM that crashed today was actually shot down by a Su-35S fighter that accidentally shot the fighter with its cannon. 2/

They are screwed if that was the case... don't they have a round counter so pilots know if they are actually carrying ammo?

During normal flights, projectiles for the cannon are not pulled out of the aircraft. Even if this plane last fired from a cannon 300 years ago during testing. The ammunition for the cannon is always charged, but if there is no practical shooting from it according to the exercise, it must be disconnected by aviation armament specialists (with control of the actions by another specialist) with a special switch and the SHR connector is disconnected (consider the gun is turned off from the socket).
It is almost impossible to control the shutdown of the cannon from the cockpit, but when performing typical attacks, the very last stage of protection, namely the "Main B" switch, does not turn on at all, and in addition, before performing the attack, a control clamping of the gun trigger away from the target is performed with recording on a tape recorder.

And only if all these numerous and obligatory actions are lost, the cannon can shoot.

From the comments above it is normal for aircraft to exercise with live ammo, but with the cannon disabled... so the real question is why did the ground crew preparing the aircraft for a dogfight combat exercise leave the gun live and able to fire, and why doesn't the aircraft have a simulation mode where all weapons are disabled because the target is clearly a friendly aircraft and this is an exercise...

Three crew members died as a result of a sudden activation of the ejection system in a Tu-22M3 bomber during preparation for flight on the ground at the Shaykovka airbase in the Kaluga Oblast, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced.

"Due to the insufficient height to deploy the parachutes, three crew members received injuries incompatible with life upon landing"

Among the crew members who died is a commander of the 52nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, Colonel Vadim Beloslyudtsev.

According to Interfax, the fourth member of the crew survived the accident and was taken to the hospital.

That probably damaged the bomber too. They probably have an automatic destruction of sensitive stuff in the bomber after ejection happens to not let the enemy take it.
