The plane will be repaired, the crew unfortunately died of a freak accident. I'm sure they will check to see what caused the plane to activate ejection system while it was still on the ground

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
Zero zero ejection seats would not have helped... the one guy that survived was belted in but the other three were not, so even a zero zero ejection seat would not have saved them if they were not belted in.

Saw a video somewhere today on twitter of the crash site taken from a helicopter. Forget any chance of survivors, they will be hard pressed to recover remains. The coastline there is a 150 meter or so straight down rock cliff. The plane hit it just at the top.

Do you happen to know what the main theory is to the crash?

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
You can bet the age of the plane had something to do with it... time to get some new planes into service and those older planes out.

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
I really wish Russia would take steps to improve its civil aviation transport.
At one point it was 1 or 1.5 major disasters a year. Now its around 1 crash every two years.
Many of these planes are far too old. Anti-terrorism security needs to be at the level of say Israel.
America hasn't had an airline crash for I think nearly 2 decades.
Air traffic control, and runway features also need improvements, and it seems some pilots are lacking.
Russia isn't a poor country, and its got a magnificent aviation tradition. So its very sad to see Russia trail behind other major powers in aviation safety.
Putin is a terrific leader, but I can't help but think 3 or 4 rungs down from him you have a fair amount of garbage that should be replaced. Very sad and RIP to the victims of this crash.

I'm no FAA expert but the plane crashed straight into a sheer cliff - most likely due to pilot error in bad weather conditions. I can't see any evidence so far suggesting any terrorist plot and it's unlikely to be one.
This is NOT a major airline crash - just a tragic accident of a civil aviation plane. These accidents are unfortunate but they do happen each year, and that includes the USA.
The last major US airline accident was in November 2001 with American Airlines Flight 587 where 265 people lost their lives.
Just before that two United Airlines Planes claimed nearly 3000 lives when they crashed into the WTC. A tragic event with some very dark undertones that changed the World forever.
Sometimes you can stop these things from happening, but sometimes shit happens.

Re: Russian-Made Crash Notification
Of course when the problem is pilot error there is only so much a brand new plane can do... I mean look at that Boeing 777 they lost...
At the end of the day even with the newest planes in service crashes will happen.
The main delay for most of the aircraft to replace the old planes in use is engines and they are sorting that out.
Ironically the dumbest thing they could do is rush the damn things into production and service because that will result in accidents... do you get that irony?
All they can do is examine what happened and try to work out solutions and changes to new aircraft that might make the mistakes or problems less likely to lead to a crash... more precise navigation... basic radar systems that warn of cliff faces ahead... stuff that makes a drunk pilot sober before they can start the engines... that sort of stuff.

Meh. What do you mean by civil aviation transport ? The latest civil transport crash in the US was in 2019. A Boeing 767.

BE-200 crashes in Turkey in apparent CFIT accident. https://www.rt.com/russia/532050-russian-firefighter-plane-crash-turkey/
Do these planes havce TAWS and would it be useful in water bombing? Not sure. Cloud and snow covered peaks are super dangerous. RIP to the dead.

This aircraft is very well equipped for any emergency role and purpose designed for water bombing. It can land on any open stretch of water to ingest water for fire fighting This is the type of aircraft I would gladly suggest for our own annual forest fires that are mostly due to arsonist's work. Being a modern aircraft it will have some form of TAWS yes.

I am just wondering if TAWS is useful in waterbombing as they are often below minimums. Or did they fly into a dead end canyon.

From one of the videos that I have seen pretty much "Or did they fly into a dead end canyon" that was completely filled with heavy smoke.

MOSCOW, August 27. /TASS/. A Su-24 bomber crashed near the city of Perm in the Urals and its pilots ejected, the press office of Russia’s Central Military District reported on Friday...
..."The flight was without payload. The plane crashed in a forest area. There is no destruction on the ground," the District said...
..."The [rescue] team has found the Su-24 crew, their lives are not in danger," the source said.
Fortunately, no loss of life.

It is strange, but in case of su 24 I am not as shocked. Would be like saying an su 22 (my fav) had just crashed.
