Failed launch of North Korean spy satellite

An attempt to launch in the DPRK on May 31, 2023, the first North Korean reconnaissance satellite Manrigyon No. 1 (Malligyong-1) using the new space launch vehicle Chollima-1 (Chollima-1) ended in failure. After the launch from the Sohae Cosmodrome, the Chollima-1 carrier rocket, after the separation of the first stage, experienced an abnormal operation of the second stage, and the rocket fell into the Yellow Sea 200 km off the west coast of South Korea. On this occasion, an air raid alert was declared in Seoul. Part of the rocket fragments was found and caught by the South Korean side of the vessel.

North Korea Develops, Test-Fires New IRBM Solid-Fuel Engines

North Korea has developed and test-fired new-type high-thrust solid-fuel engines for intermediate-range ballistic missiles, North Korean state-run news agency KCNA reported Wednesday.

The North Korea "has developed new-type high-thrust solid-fuel engines for intermediate ballistic missiles again, which are of important strategic significance," with the tests "provided a sure guarantee for reliably accelerating the development of the new-type IRBM system," reported Korean Central News Agency.

The tests were aimed at evaluating the technical specifications of new IRBM engines, the media reported, adding that the tests were "very successful" and the "reliability and stability" of the engines and manufacturing technologies were verified.

North Korea tests solid-fuel hypersonic missile — KCNA, 01.14.2024.

The test did not impact the security of neighboring countries and "had nothing to do with the situation in the region," KCNA added.

SEOUL, January 15. /TASS/. North Korea has carried out a test launch of a solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead on January 14, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

"On January 14, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) Missile General Bureau performed a test launch of a solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missile with a hypersonic maneuverable warhead," the news agency said, adding that the launch was successful.

The test did not impact the security of neighboring countries and "had nothing to do with the situation in the region," KCNA added.

Earlier, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the DPRK had tested an intermediate-range ballistic missile.

Solid fuelled hypersonic missiles are easy... S-300 and S-400 SAMs are solid fuelled hypersonic missiles... the trick is to get them hypersonic powered by scramjet, which is a fraction of he weight of a solid rocket powered missile.

🇰🇵 As Japanese media report (referring to both government officials and independent expert data), the DPRK's first reconnaissance satellite is, by all indications, operating successfully.

This is indicated not only by the correction of the orbital altitude (demonstrating not only the operability of the device’s engines, but also its controllability by commands from the ground), but also its regular, precise appearance over the same strategic objects in the region (with an interval of approximately once every 5 days).

The launch of 3 more similar satellites planned by Pyongyang in 2024 will make it possible to increase the frequency of viewing objects of interest by 4 times and switch to almost daily monitoring.

North Korea has successfully tested a new medium- and long-range missile, the Hwasong-16B, with a hypersonic glide warhead, the Korean Central News Agency reported. The rocket flew 1 thousand km at an altitude of 72.3 km and entered the Sea of Japan.

The rocket and unit were not tested at their maximum trajectory capability. The hypersonic unit achieved a flight range of 1,000 km from the missile launch point. During the flight, after separating from the missile, the warhead performed vertical maneuvers. The height of the apogee during the first "jump" was 101.1 km, and during the second - 72.3 km.

Therefore, Pyongyang is quite quickly and confidently increasing its hypersonic capabilities.

🇰🇵 Kim Jong Un visits North Korean strategic missile bases – state news agency

It looks a bit like Yars but bigger. The progress of North Korea's missile technology is incredible. Why such a rapid increase in help from Russia and China? They already have solid-fuel ICBMs. This looks like a large solid fuel missile.

The west has made Russia and China their strategic enemy, it only makes sense for Russia and China to then look at countries in a similar position of attempted isolation and hate and think about how they can help them resist the western sanctions and pressure and to grow and develop as countries to become more powerful and more dangerous to the west... the mutual enemy.

There was a time when Russia wanted to cooperate with the west, which the west used but never saw Russia as an equal, so Russia has learned it needs to find its own way forward and not bother with any sort of partnerships with the west until they can grow up.
