Pancir-S2 is coming online by the end of this year - I suspect its a somewhat modified Pancir-S1 with the missiles from the Pancir-SM.

Superior ZRPK "Carapace-C2" go by the army in 2015

What are the differences in the missiles? Maybe AESA radar too, cause wasn't there photos at one point with AESA radar on a Pantsir?

I don't know where you got that 40 km range figure from Viktor. I hope you are correct.
As far as I can remember, PANTSIR-SM range was reported as 35 km.

    Do you have a source?

My bad. Modernized Pancir-S1 missiles will have 35km range and 40 for the SM version.

For now only for Arctic region. It seems Russian army still didn't make a decision around army version of Pantsir.

Russia Developing Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft System for Arctic

Russia's KBP Instrument Design Bureau is considering developing a special tracked version of its Pantsir (SA-22 Greyhound) self-propelled anti-aircraft gun and missile system for use in the Arctic.

The Pantsir is typically mounted on a wheeled chassis, however its maneuverability in the heavy snow is "significantly restricted," Vladimir Popov, director general of the KBP subsidiary JSC Scheglovsky Val, told the TASS news agency.

He added that the idea of basing the Pantsir on the special tracked chassis produced by the JSC Ishimbayskiy machine-building plant was being studied and that some follow-up experiments were also planned to test its viability in polar areas.

Popov said that KBP had previously integrated Pantsir's combat module and radar on the tracked GMZ-352M1E chassis produced by the JSC Minsky track plant for the United Arab Emirates.

The director general also said that KBP was working to increase the Pantsir's reliability in severe climate conditions.

"Icing-up is the main problem," he said. "We are improving both the chassis' reliability and the frost-resistance of different oils and power fluids.

The Pantsir system is already “protecting Russia's northern borders," he said, adding that "three serial-wheeled SA-22s have been deployed at the Temp air base (on Kotelny Island) since 2014."

The operating temperature range of the Pantsir modification for the Russian armed forces runs from negative 50 degrees to 50 degrees.

Bolstering Russia’s presence in the Arctic region is part of the country’s military strategy through 2020. President Vladimir Putin said in late 2014 that Russia is not planning to militarize the Arctic, but is taking necessary measures to ensure its security in the region.

    Nice.

Regarding the upcoming Pantsir-S2, what are the chances of it having the 2-faced (Janus) radar?

The radar is a Janus-faced ESA, evidently intended to generate track outputs at a significantly higher rate than the VNIIRT 2RL80/2RL80E on early production systems for the Russian PVO and export clients. The system is claimed to be for an export client, not disclosed, who may be Middle Eastern given the desert camouflage on the prototype vehicle. A higher tracking rate would provide a better capability to track PGM targets, especially variants of the AGM-88 HARM/AARGM.

    33% Wink

It's either going to have the S1's radar if they go cheap, the two faced radar you mentioned, or the larger-single faced radar shown on the Kamaz Typhoon based model.

Who makes that 2 faced radar? Such a system would be very important for such systems!

    I think it's domestic production

    ...

Algerian Pantsirs apparently also have the 'Janus' radar

Such a system would be very important for such systems!

In terms of a two faced radar vs a single face... the costs pretty much double as you have two transmit and receive components, but for that extra cost the spin rate of a search radar is limited by the distance the signal travels... there is no point spinning the antenna so fast the return signal arrives back when the antenna has moved on.

Having two radar it means you can keep track of objects more efficiently as you are practically scanning twice per revolution of the radar which means for small highly manouvering targets you get position updates twice as often so a constantly changing threat environment you should see targets faster.

Obviously we are talking about the search radar... the tracking radar and EO tracking will be continuous tracking which is even more accurate as needed for direct hits.

If the vehicle is acting as a command vehicle it should be able to track twice as many targets as a single face system so in that case it would be superior in finding targets and handing them off to other platforms to engage.

Personally I would spend a little more and get a three or four faced system that was fixed and could electronically scan 360 degrees without having to actually move. That would improve stability and allow discrete scanning, but I suspect a system like this you would want continuous full field scanning to look for new targets all the time.
