Gran 120mm Guided Mortar round
Note at 00:42 the 82mm automatic mortar 6B9.
Does anyone know more about it or actual footage only about it?
I find it highly interessting a 4 round 82mm mortar salvo, it is also installed on some MB-TL vehicles.

It is a good time for the Russian military...
Lots of spending but with a government not keen to jump into conflict.

Spending yes but at the same time Russian MoD has never been so open to the public. We get information up to date with specifications and HQ pictures and videos. Its good time for usGarryB wrote:It is a good time for the Russian military...

military fans too.
On the other hand Russian military has fought wars throughout its history on the scale never experienced by anyone else on the planet. They best of all know what war means and they
are for such reasons not eager to jump in the casket of nails so easily. China on the other hand has not and has received lots of humiliations by different nations in its recent history.
Therefore I bet their generals are more trigger easy in light of the new found wealth and army modernization to correct the the tide of "history". Time will tell.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
Can you see why I suggested it could be used as a modular add on weapon for Armata tanks?
Fairly small and compact... change the 4 round clip to belt feed and you have a high elevation weapon that can rapidly deliver HE to target.
Israeli tanks carry 60mm mortars for targets that don't need a 120mm HE round... this 82mm weapon would be just as useful against point and area targets...

Make it even more modern with lighter and higher quality steels it would be the hell on earth for the recieving side.GarryB wrote:Can you see why I suggested it could be used as a modular add on weapon for Armata tanks?

Didn't saw you mentioning it before, but that would do a great job on certain tanks, but maybe to space intensive for armata in general.

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
It is unusual in that it is both a direct fire weapon but it is also obviously a mortar.
It is my understanding that a unit of 6 weapons fire their first 4 rounds at a cyclic rate of 720 rounds per minute, which means each gun fires at about 2 rounds a second so that would mean a team of 6 guns would fire 24 82mm mortar rounds in less than 2 seconds on target... 30 seconds later they could be hitched up to the towing vehicle and away.
When you are developing vehicle families you need modular gun mounts for different roles... so a 23mm 6 barrel gatling, or a combined Kornet and 12.7mm HMG mount or an 82mm fully automatic belt fed mortar become interesting systems for the lighter vehicles or as add on weapons for heavier vehicles.

They should be liquid nitrogen bottles, often used to cool thermal imagers and other IR sensors.

Could that be the cooling part on Igla Manpads or similiar cooling aid tanks?

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
The one for Igla is of a different design; Igla's liquid nitrogen coolant bottle is actually integrated with a thermal battery.Werewolf wrote:Could that be the cooling part on Igla Manpads or similiar cooling aid tanks?

Re: Russian Military Photos and Videos #1
Those nitrogen bottles are used on the thermal imagers used on Russian and Soviet ATGMs... nitrogen is inert and abundant in our atmosphere so it is cheap and non toxic.
It is used to rapidly cool the thermal sensor in the thermal sights and each bottle lasts for about 4-6 hours depending on the model.
