Rostec creates for the mass adoption of computers "Elbrus" in Russia

Russian Electronics: Semiconductor and Processors - Page 20 U7oOOYJ

Rostec is developing software that will open opportunities for mass implementation of domestic computers "Elbrus" in state institutions, business, schools and universities. The developers of a subsidiary of the state Corporation, the National center of Informatization (NCI), to create so-called virtualization technology for Russian computing, allowing simultaneous work of several dozen cars at the expense of one server "Elbrus".
This technology significantly reduces the value of domestic machinery and allows to minimize the cost of construction of offices of computer science in schools and universities, working space in offices and industrial plants. The development is conducted in the framework of the program of import substitution for the development and implementation of domestic cybersecure information technology in various sectors of the economy.

"We are working on reduction of the proposed solutions to bring the cost of the working place on the "El" to similar foreign models. This platform is a Mature, debugged it, tested on major projects and have proven their quality. Its main advantage – high level of information security, which is important for many Russian companies dealing with sensitive information. The introduction of such equipment in schools and universities can provide a special effect for the Russian it industry – we will have a new generation of Russian programmers that will join the work on the Russian technology and will understand that it can solve the task not worse than abroad," commented Director of special Affairs of state Corporation rostec Vasily Brovko.

The created software will allow you to connect to a single server processors "Elbrus" the required number of jobs. Their number will depend on the "power" of servers – the number of processors, amount of used "hard" disks, and RAM.

"At the conference "the Digital industry Industrial Russia" we announced the beginning of the formation of the Alliance of developers of application software platform "Elbrus". In fact, we are now talking about creating a software ecosystem for that platform-based operating system ntsi "Axis", – said General Director of NCI Konstantin Solodukhin.

As he noted, posed by virtualization technology will contribute to the adaptation of the platform "Elbrus" for mass application and thus prostimulirujte domestic demand for domestic high-tech solutions.

It's funny how things have come full-circle.

Back in the 70s and early 80s in the computer labs of universities you had such a thing as terminals - which weren't computers by themselves; they were monitors and keyboards connected to a mainframe or supercomputer. Each such mainframe or supercomputer would have a few dozen such terminals connected to it for users to use. Each user would have their own account, could log in via any terminal, and would be able to interact with the actual computer via a command-line interface; word-processing, maths, programming, or even the primitive internet of the day for interaction with other users at other universities. So essentially a single computer would have multiple users using it simultaneously, each in their own seperate environment - and no-one would ever tell the difference. UNIX OSs were typically used for this, and this is a big part of why UNIX and the later Linux evolved with an architecture centered around protected memory and multiple users, including support for concurrent multiple users doing work on it.

And now we have this - the same sort of thing just evolved - each user is connected with a monitor and keyboard to a central server, and has their own virtual environment running Linux or whatever Russian OS; with one of the processors or cores of this server and part of its memory dedicated to running each such terminal/virtual environment.
They can save even more power by ditching the virtualization and just have one instance of Linux running on the server with multiple users again, same as decades ago - Linux is reliable enough for that sort of thing and flexible enough to be extended over however much memory and processors. However that might impose restrictions that virtualization would not; people would want more control and customization, their own admin capabilities, etc...

The St. Petersburg electronics manufacturer has launched a "radical" project

St. Petersburg high-tech company "NPO "STARLINE" has launched a project designed to make the company Russia's largest contract manufacturer of electronics. "Radically expand" production "STARLINE" helped the rate on the most modern robotic equipment that almost no use of domestic electronic factories. However, for the full promotion production, and most importantly, to intercept orders from the Chinese, which apparently expects "STARLINE", need a proper strategy and a significant amount of time, experts say.

As reported by the co-owner and President of the company Temur Aminjanov, for the project at the site in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the new building area of 10 thousand sq. m., run a workshop for the production of electronic circuit boards, cables and final Assembly of products (with testing). Also built 12-metre high robotic warehouse. In the near future will have two more workshops, investments in which will amount to 10-15 million euros each, for the manufacture of plastic enclosures manufactured by the company products and metal molds for these hulls. All the workshops are equipped with robotic lines the world's best manufacturers — Japanese, Swiss, and Austrian companies such as: NMIll, Venzel, Erowa, Mitsubishi, Ziersch, ORLaser, Fleischer etc.

This project expands the existing electronics manufacturing, and not only automotive security system that already provides the company with more than 48% of the Russian market (its total annual output — about 30 billion rubles.), but also other transport systems, e.g., for UAVs, the company "Geoskan". According to Temur amidzhanov's, the company manufactures electronic products under contract with about a hundred Russian and foreign companies-developers. Among them are such famous companies as Optosense, "Termotronik" SKB "QUANTUM", the "Cybernetic technology", "speech technology Center", "INIS", etc.

"A few hundred Russian developers of modern electronic systems are now forced to assemble their products in China, as in Russia, very little electronic factories with modern equipment. We are working on such equipment. The demand for our services is huge — the production growth we have 300% per year", — says Timur Aminjanov.

An acclaimed expert in electronics market, the Chairman of the expert Council of the Association of Russian developers and manufacturers of electronics (ARPA) Kalju Kukk confirms the serious shortage of modern electronic production in Russia. "In Dubna a couple of years ago launched the plant of JSC "Svyaz engineering KB" and once it fully loaded with orders. But he makes only the PCB. Near Moscow there is a factory "Microwire", but it produces only cables. And "STARLINE" deployed large — scale production of a full cycle-and the cables and housings, and complete Assembly. Such plants we need. The demand for them is really great", — says the expert.

The head of Committee on cooperation of ARPA Sergey Zorin confirms that the parameter "scale multiplied by the quality of the" new plant "STARLINE" — undoubtedly the largest in Russia. And just for the nominal power of the equipment is equal to him, Russia really seems to be no, the expert believes. "I was in this factory is really cool", — says Sergey Zorin.

Rostec runs a series of chips for satellite communications, navigation and radar

A subsidiary of the Rostec Moscow research Institute of microelectronic equipment "Progress" — has spent 21 million rubles to start mass production of its chip, which was developed at least five years ago.

In a series of run IC for satellite communications, navigation and radar systems, to their foreign counterparts which, according to the developer, the "unknown". This follows from the tender documents of the enterprise on development and production qualification testing and Assembly of microchips with the quality category "VP". This abbreviation means "military acceptance" — presentation to the electronics of high quality requirements. Their satisfaction implies the use of products in equipment, failure of which leads to "significant consequences."

The definition of the contractor "Progress" made in the format of a purchases from a single supplier with a contract price established at the level of 21 mln., and the time of its execution until 30 November 2018 the name of the contractor on the procurement website now explicitly are not registered anywhere. However, a number of independent from each other circumstantial evidence, for example, the supply of raw materials for the work, it can be concluded that it is "Zelenograd nanotechnology center" (Zelenograd nanotechnology center).

This organization tells about itself as about one of four such centers, organized in 2010 by the state Corporation "nanotechnologies" in collaboration with "Zelenograd innovation-technological center" and the national research University MIET.

At the time of the publication of the "Progress" in the press service of "Rostec" has not responded to Interview questions relating to in what extent in the future it is planned to produce chips, and who can become their direct users.

    What is the scheme available

Exact title forthcoming for the rollout of products — chip 1338ХК8У. Technically it belongs to the category of attenuators (from FR. attenuer — to soften, weaken), which in electronics are designed to reduce the intensity of the electric or electromagnetic oscillations. Directly against 1338ХК8.e.e the creators report that it serves to regulate the amplitude of input signals the so-called L-band.

    The chip is made in a sintered body. The operating frequency range declared at the level of 0.1 at 1.55 GHz, d — 6 bits, current consumption — 50 mA supply voltage analog part — 5 V ± 0.15 V, digital parts 2.5 V ± 0.15 V, temperature range — from -60 to +85 C.

What needs to be done to the contractor

For the execution of the contract Zelenograd nanotechnology center is required using the "semifinished products" of the customer — crystals and buildings — to produce an installation party in 225 chips, and then the main series in 582 pieces, with the above-mentioned quality of "VP".

In addition, the scope of work includes the development of technical documentation on the build process circuits and the implementation of screening tests. The latter consist of "burn-in" products, mechanical testing, including linear acceleration, and measurement of electric parameters in the range of operating temperatures.

    Notable facts about "the Progress"

"Progress" was founded in 1987 on the basis of units of the Institute, "Automatics" and CNIT as a center of computer-aided design of specialized VLSI (very large scale integrated circuits) of the Ministry of industry of communication of the USSR.

SBIS of the company used in modems for satellite communications, apparatus for ATM and ICM, radar, satellite navigation, mobile telephone communications, intra and backbone communication networks.

At the Institute I assure you that he was one of the first in Russia has implemented orders for designing VLSI for such global industry leaders as Motorola, VLSI Technology, Nortel, ST Microelectronics, Star Gold, SGS Tompson, etc.

BY "Promsvyaz" is developing electronics contract manufacturing in the Sverdlovsk region

The Yekaterinburg production Association "Promsvyaz" by the end of 2018 intends to raise more than 100 million rubles for contract manufacturing of electronics.

As noted by the Director of development AT Promsvyaz Fedor Selyutin, to develop this direction the company started in 2015. Over the past two years the annual growth in demand for contract manufacturing services has reached 100%, revenue increased 5-fold, from 20 to nearly 100 million. Key customers of Ural engineering companies and design offices, as well as manufacturers of electronics and electrical engineering that require production of small batches.

"The installation of elements on printed circuit Board, including BGA, manufacture of electronic products, manufacture of cables, harnesses and similar products in small batches (from a few dozen pieces) is a real problem for the company, which has its own production. Such orders do not take mass producers in Russia and abroad, they are not interested — says Fedor seljutin. Thus, there is a niche which is contract manufacturing. Our economy is not the largest party, and the cost is a small party is always more, especially if she's experienced, and it is necessary to adapt the production from scratch. But it's cheaper organize its own production, which subsequently need to load for continuous operation".

Also Director of development AT Promsvyaz added that the constant increase in the demand for contract manufacturing services, including pilot batches of various equipment, demonstrates a high innovative potential of small enterprises of the Ural region.

    Background:

Production Association "Promsvyaz" (included in the same holding) is a modern scientific-production enterprise of a full cycle. The plant was founded in 1939 on the base of repair workshops of the Ministry of communications of the USSR in Yekaterinburg. Over the next 75 years, he passed several stages of development, including the stages of production of relay, analog and digital communication equipment.

Today ON "Promsvyaz" secured the high-tech production facilities. The plant develops and produces complex systems with technological and dispatcher communication. One of the promising areas of its business services contract manufacturing of electronics. Product quality is ensured by the quality management system is certified ISO 9001-2008 and military standard GOST-РВ0015 capable of supplying products to the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation.

"Promsvyaz" is the official supplier Gazprom, Tatneft, Slavneft, MMK and other major Russian companies. The geography of deliveries of equipment covers the entire Russia and CIS countries.

There was never any doubt that Russia would develop its own extreme environment IC production. Russian scientists
have been dealing with such parts for decades. They can design them on par with any of their NATO counterparts.
Internet trolls who do not have even Masters degrees in physics subjects would have no idea so they run around yelping
that Russia can't do this and Russia can't do that. Custom IC production is an application of developed knowledge, not
    new physics magic.

BTW, some twits think that rad-hardened ICs are some production process and that, for example, Intel CPUs can be
cranked out ready for naked use in space. This is utter inanity. The size of both the lithography and the chip area
explodes from features designed to minimize ionizing radiation. CRC features have to be built into the transistor
layout at all stages. And vastly more metal traces are needed to divert current spikes. There is no foundry cranking
out magic rad-hardened chips. Rad-hardened chips are produced on regular IC production lines. And none of them
are 14 nm parts. More like one micron at best.

I had to realise today that the advancement of ICs stopped years before.

There was same running joke about that the Russian MOD bought 90 (45) nm semiconductor manufacturing lines (over decade old technology), but I have to say that those lines will be fine to make everything that they need, and any new/better line will not give anything to the quality of they product.

I wanted to buy to my son a new CPU instead of the decade old I7-920 (45nm) , and I have to realise that there is nothing really on the market to buy.

The typical new (2017/18 on 14nm) Intel CPUs has roughly twice higher speed than the decade old 920 : /.

There are few "powerful" one, with 150watt power consumption.

So, the 90/45nm of the Russian MOD will make everything that they need .

And it means that in ten years time the Russian / Chinese will have the same set of satellites/military equipment like the US, and the radar performance on the fighter jets will be dominated by the size of aircraft and the cooling capacity of it .

The biggest advantage of the Su-57 will be that it is bigger, so it can accommodate bigger cooler for electronics, and it means it will have more powerful radar than the F-35.

The Core i7 920 if over clocked gives newer chips a run for their money. Issue in terms of real performance increase has been through the communication channel between cpu and ram.

    Ram speeds matters as well.

EOS and partners launched the server on the basis of "Elbrus-8S" liquid cooled
    https://sdelanounas.ru/blogs/112806/
Famous Russian vendors, including the company, EOS, initiated the development of Russia's first servers based on the national eight-core processor "Elbrus-8S", using system fluid immersion cooling. Created as a demo server cluster was designed for porting on it software technologies from multiple developers and are allowed to show work completely domestic integrated solutions based on the Russian hardware. For the first time this model was publicly demonstrated last September 11-13, 2018 the exhibition "import Substitution".

Server, four processors "Elbrus-8S" were combined in the cluster with the same server based on Quad-core processors "Elbrus-4C". For heat dissipation used in immersion cooling technology: the cluster is fully seated in the box with the dielectric (i.e., not conducting current) with a liquid (in this case oil). Immersing all heat-generating components to the liquid coolant has a number of significant advantages in comparison with air cooling. This savings of space to accommodate computer systems and substantial reduction of noise from device operation, and significant reduction in energy consumption (some experts believe that using this technology can save up to 95% of the energy normally used for cooling).

The new cluster was installed software products of "1C" (developed by 1C:Enterprise), Postgres Professional (developer DBMS Postgres About), "New cloud" (developed by "My office"), Spirit (the Creator of the software product VideoMost), InfoWatch (developer smartphone with trusted firmware and software "Traffic monitor"), EOS (the developer of the document management systems). These software and hardware component the basis for a common fully import-substituting complexes developed under the concept of "domestic Business solutions (DOR)": the universal working place of the official and complex for the provision of public services. Collective stand of ARPP "national software" at the exhibition "import Substitution", where he seemed to these developments, has become one of the largest among the whole exposition area and number of components of a single system and attracted the attention of the greatest number of visitors.

"Using immersion cooling greatly extends the scope of the decisions that we showed at the exhibition. Reduction of energy consumption — a significant benefit, but most importantly, that such systems can be installed in any room, in any climate. Does not require special measures for air-conditioning, cleaning the dust, the special temperature regime. The noise from the operation of such a cluster is minimal, not comparable with noise from servers, cooling with fans, and next to it, you can safely run. For us, the company EOS, it is imperative that at the last exhibition "import Substitution" we could offer ready to introduce domestic integrated solutions for automating business functions. These solutions are created in the project DOR — domestic application system for automation of business processes in the domestic computer technology under the control of the domestic operating system using domestic DBMS. On the basis of these decisions can be automated organizations of any scale from small to region. I would like to mention the possibility of establishing mobile centers of the organization of public services in remote areas, including extreme climate. The functionality, reliability and security of such systems is very high," — said marketing Director of EOS Elena Ivanova.

New technologies of the resident of SEZ "Dubna" for 3D electronics

In 2018, the "s-Component Dubna" presented to domestic producers, radio - and microelectronics, new and innovative design. The first batch of products based on its own designs of resident of the SEZ "Dubna" has already received high appraisal from customers.

The resident of special economic zone "Dubna" company "With Component Dubna" is implementing a project on the development and manufacture of metallized ceramic housings, circuit boards and other electronic components on the basis of modern material — high-tech ceramic. This year the team introduced the leading Russian manufacturers of radio - and microelectronics, their new products and technology, which was approved, and the company new orders.

The acceleration of the growth of electronic systems integration and movement towards compactness of the used components, the electronic industry is a technological limit to the complexity of the circuits made in one plane. This applies, in particular, a classic printed circuit boards and other similar products. The obvious way out is the transition to 3D-electronics that involves the creation of multi-tiered structures with vertical switching, which consists of several layers of materials with high thermal conductivity and good electrical insulating properties.

We pondered the solution to this problem and in cooperation with one of the world's leading manufacturers of power supply systems have developed the latest powerful DC-DC Converter, — says General Director of OOO "S-Component Dubna" Oleg Kul. — Housing material and circuit boards — lymantridae ceramics, the thermal conductivity of more than 170W/MK, which is comparable to the conductivity of aluminum radiators. Material conductors — silver paste with a thickness of 60 µm. The same paste filled with a continuous layer of high current transient interlayer holes with a diameter of 0,6 mm. This constructive solution allows to work with currents up to 100A, providing heat removal at the expense of own properties without forced ventilation.

The advantages of the new Converter are in the first place, the minimum mass-dimensional characteristics and is completely domestic production boards and pastes. Such high settings is another new product of the company designed for aircraft, specialized ceramic hermetic feedthroughs for blocks actuator. Used in the manufacture of advanced innovative solutions specialists Dubna resident provide high vacuumpacked and operation of products in harsh conditions, with minimal weight and volume. In the aerospace industry these characteristics are critical, especially in difficult situations.

    — The first batch of our products have already received high appraisal from the customers, — says head of sales Department, OOO "C-Component Dubna" Alexey Evstratov. — Currently working to expand the range and mass production of products based on growing specific requirements of users. We strive for optimal balance in relation to taking into account all possible wishes of the developers and manufacturability. This determines the production efficiency, the best output characteristics at a very competitive price.

The Roselectronic Holding of Rostec State Corporation has completed the creation of the first Russian chip for the Internet of Things (Internet of Things, IoT). The 5x5 mm chip is designed to receive and transmit information in the optimal frequency range from 100 MHz to 2.5 GHz for the Internet of things. This is the first domestic microcircuit that provides digital communication at a distance of up to 30 km.

The device will be used in IoT solutions for industry, transport, communications, agriculture and in “smart” household appliances. The main advantage is the absence of undeclared functions, the so-called bookmarks, which is key when used in strategically important enterprises and infrastructure facilities. An experimental batch of products has been created and is currently being tested.

“The electronic component base is the main element in building the Internet of things systems. The development of a domestic chip is a necessary step to reduce dependence on imported components. The creation of such devices contributes to the large-scale digitalization of various industries and creates the prerequisites for creating “smart” products for the mass market. We estimate the current demand of the Russian IoT solutions market for at least 1 million of such devices per year, ”said Rostekh industrial director Sergey Sakhnenko.

The microcircuit is designed by the leading design center of microelectronic devices in Russia at the Research and Development Institute “Progress” of the holding “Ruselectronics” for mass production at domestic enterprises. The assembly of chips on the territory of Russia will allow the devices to meet the requirements for domestic microelectronic products of the first level.

The developers of the line "Elbrus" has completed the creation of new high-performance processor "Elbrus-8СВ".

As it became known CNews, which lasted nearly five years, the project to create a Russian universal 64-bit OCTA-core microprocessor has been completed. About this CNews reported in the Ministry of industry, commissioned by the developer which the line "Elbrusy" company MTSST — conducted development work (R & d) of a state contract to 621 million rubles.

Given the name "CPU 9" is the cipher of the works carried out according to the classification of industry and trade. In the MCST product called "chip 1891ВМ12Я" or "processor "Elbrus-8СВ"".As reported CNews in the Ministry of industry and trade, the results of successful tests of the new output state customer has been obtained design and technical documentation of the chip and the design documentation with the letter "O1" (with adjustments according to the results of the acceptance testing of the prototype or batch).

""Processor-9" designed by technology 28 nm (32 nm Intel), running at 1.5 GHz, has a peak performance of 576 GFlops single-precision and 288 GFlops in double precision, — speak in a press-service of the Ministry of industry and trade.

    — The product is comparable in performance to the foreign 9760 Intel Itanium, Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 and Intel Xeon E7-4850 v4, manufactured on more advanced technologies." The first of these analogues, created by the technology of 32 nm, Intel has released to the market in may 2017, after burying this line of Itanium. Model E5 2609 v3 on the 22 nm process, was released in the third quarter of 2014, model Intel Xeon E7 4850 v4 on the process technology to 14 nm in the second quarter of 2016.

"On the basis of "Processor-9", you can create a personal computers, high performance workstations, servers for different purposes with a capacity up to 2 teraFLOPS, in different data centers and supercomputers petaflop performance" — believe in the Ministry of industry.

MCST needs to get with the program. Double precision operations should cost nothing in modern CPUs. The Elbrus needs a proper
64 bit floating point design and not 32 bit hack. It also needs a vector FPU unit that can handle 512 or better year 1024 bits of
    FPU instructions per cycle.

They have been sitting on the same design for over 15 years now.

Yes, a new architecture would be good. But I'm assuming their aim is entirely Linux or UNIX were it's more refined around their own architecture.

I am thinking about running fluid dynamics models (including atmospheric air quality and chemistry models). Since they are marketing these CPUs for
servers and not just consumers, they need to have a "Xeon" line which is competitive. I know, the current design is quite good. But there
is nothing stopping them from furthering the design. Even if that costs more transistors and power dissipation.

If MCST wants to compete on core count, then it is also falling behind. An 8 core CPU model is old news. They need 16 and 32 core models
as well. And they can do 16 cores on a 28 nm process just by lumping two 8-core units together. Such density is valuable for servers.
A 32 core two-socket blade or 2U rack unit allows for large numbers of cores to be deployed. These days the number of CPU cores counts
for something since efficient MPI and OpenMP hybrid code exists that scales linearly with the CPU core number to high values. Some older
parallel code was not so good and couldn't even make use of 16 cores properly. Those days are long gone.

If Russia had a visionary Government , it will be producing a not just 64 bits computer but 128 bits
with the aim ,to get the world faster processor for mathematics and Fp and Dp precision advanced graphics , and then speak with Sony ,offer them to equip their next generations consoles with the Russian processor.. that will give Russian high tech companies
an up to  75 millions processors building contract.. also offer their Quartz storage technology to Sony
too , to replace their blue ray optical drives... There is so much money to make in technology that
Russia is missing for Putin completely outdated model of economy. based on energy ,mining ,agriculture and sports.

With the scientific talent Russia have.. is for Russia to be far head on western competition if had Putin began early to focus on high tech economy.. but when was the order given for import substituion of american technology? on 2015 ?   Putin the "great" even allowed Americans professors financing the best Russian students in Russian universities ,that they later recruit as soon graduate of University. Laughing   This is unbelievable the things Putin allowed to happen.. it like treason. Russia spend a fortune
graduating students ,so they later go to work for American companies.. Is that is not treason no idea what is..   Neutral

Russian neuroprocessors will think about abroad

SEC "Module" plans to enter the German market

The Russian developer of integrated circuits of the Scientific and Technical Center “Module” plans to bring its neural processors to the foreign market. The company reached an agreement with the German Dream Chip to promote its product among automakers for machine vision devices. On the world market, Russian solutions have not yet become leaders in performance and energy efficiency, and experts say it’s too early to talk about competition with such major manufacturers as NVidia.

The Russian developer of integrated circuits of the Scientific and Technical Center “Module” has reached an agreement with the German Dream Chip, which is involved in computer vision technologies for the automotive industry, a spokesman for the Scientific and Technical Center said. According to him, the companies have agreed to promote joint products on the European market on the basis of Russian neuroprocessors. The agreement is enshrined in the framework of the Embedded World Forum 2019. In the Dream Chip, they didn’t respond to the request from Kommersant.

The SEC “Module” states that they have not previously introduced their product to foreign markets: processors were bought, for example, by domestic space industry enterprises and individual developers of computer vision systems. The company hopes to compete with American NVidia processors. "The price range of top-end processors today is around $ 100, our price is 30% lower," says a spokesman for NTC Module. NVidia did not provide a comment.

The sale of processors in Germany as part of the product, Scientific and Technical Center Modul, jointly with Dream Chip, is scheduled to begin in late 2019. Now the sale of neuroprocessors is 10% in the Modula business, this share in the company is expected to increase to 30%.

With the Dream Chip “Module” creates embedded systems of machine vision, which will be sold to German automobile concerns. They are supposed to be built into the modules for the recognition of car numbers, electronic devices of machine vision for driver assistance, monitoring systems of unmanned vehicles. “Two development options are being discussed now: either the production of finished systems will be localized in Russia, in Modula, or in Germany, and then we will receive royalties from sales,” the company representative said. Modula estimates the market in this segment at hundreds of thousands of processors. In 2018, according to Deloitte, investments in the development of neurochips amounted to $ 1.5 billion, which is two times more than in 2017.

On the world market, Russian solutions are not the leaders in performance and energy efficiency, but not among the worst, said Maxim Piskarev, deputy general director for marketing and sales of chips Elvis CPS. Specialized microcircuits for artificial intelligence systems are a new and fast-growing market, so almost all companies with relevant competencies have a chance to occupy a niche, he believes. So, in 2019, solutions from other Russian manufacturers will also appear, including Elvis SPC, the Dream Chip also has its own neural processor, adds Piskarev.

The creation of neuroprocessors was announced by other Russian developers. So, in February, the Foundation for Advanced Studies and MIPT told RIA Novosti about creating a neural network processor that can recognize speech and images. In January, Izvestia reported that the industry union “Neuronet” plans to create a “national neuroprocessor”.

The neurotechnology market is actively growing, but in Russia it is still not as developed as in Europe, therefore, domestic platforms have prospects for development, agrees Alexander Vassilov, general director of VisionLabs. “If the Scientific and Technical Center“ Module ”becomes a large platform, we will add its support in our software. However, so far it is difficult to talk about possible competition with such a large manufacturer as NVidia, now these are companies of different levels, ”he argues.

The Microsoft study said the Russians were the leaders in AI....you hear that guys?!?! Combine that with all the news alerts of Federation children winning countless gold, silver, and bronze medals at youth scientific Olympiads over the past decade....you see?!?! 'Russian brain-drain' is at work!!!

Microsoft recognized Russia as the leader in the implementation of artificial intelligence

Russian companies were the leaders in the implementation of artificial intelligence. This conclusion was made by experts from Microsoft in the study "Business Leaders in the AI Era", published on the corporation's website.

It is alleged that 30 percent of Russian leaders are actively implementing AI. On average, the world is 22.3 percent, and in particular, in France - only 10 percent.

According to Microsoft, top managers from Russia called setting correct goals, developing business ideas and identifying new market opportunities (32, 26, and 25 percent, respectively) as priorities in the use of AI. Another 23 percent of respondents trusted artificial intelligence decision making.

800 top managers from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States took part in the survey (sample - 100 respondents per country). Considered large companies with a staff of more than 250 people. The study was conducted from January 18 to January 27, 2019.

different source about same processors but but some numbers inside. BTW I'd expect them move manufacturing to Russia since Min of Industry and Trade co-financed its development.

21-core Russian neuroprocessor Module: Serial production has started

Newly created in Russia 28-nm neuroprocessor Module NM6408 launched into serial production. The development is designed for systems that process large amounts of data (for example, video streams), and has a peak performance of 512 GLPPS. The 21-core processor is fully competitive with its foreign counterparts.

    Who made it?

The development of the NM6408 was carried out by the domestic Modul company for 3 years with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia in 2014-2017. Another year was spent launching the processor into production, testing, creating and refining software. The topology of 28 nm in the Russian microelectronics is not yet available, so the final contract production of new processors is located at the Taiwan plant TSMC.

One may argue that if the processor is not manufactured in Russia, then it is “not ours”, but the Modul company created this product itself and when the necessary 28 nm production capacity appears in our country, it does not refuse to make its processors here.

What are the features and how much does it cost?

As the tests showed, the Russian development is many times (!) More efficient than similar devices from NVidia, and at a price - 30% cheaper than them (the retail price of our serial NM6408 is around 4,700 rubles, and its foreign counterpart Nvidia Jetson Xavier - more than 6,500 rubles) .

    What's inside our new processor?

This is your core. It bears the brand name NMC4 (NeuroMatrixCore, “Neuromatrixcor,” 4th generation ) with a unique multiprocessor architecture. The NM6408 includes 1 universal RISC processor, 4x5 processors (1 RISC + 4 NMC4) are attached to it - a total of 21 cores.

At the same time, the Russian neuroprocessor consumes only from 20 to 35 W , maintaining a very hard temperature range - from minus 60 degrees Celsius to plus 85.

At the level of computation, the novelty "can exchange digit capacity for performance . " According to the developers, “the ratio looks like this: 512 GFlops 32 bits (single precision) and 128 GFlobs 64 bits (double precision). If high accuracy is not needed, then you can use software to reduce the bit depth and gain performance. When reducing the bit twice the performance is increased to four. When you decrease the digit capacity three times, the performance grows nine times, and so on. But less than four digits are already inefficient. ” Based on the new processor, a high-performance computing module MC127.04 has already been developed .- to work as part of embedded computing and specialized high-performance systems, as well as to build systems for digital signal processing and machine vision.

Who is the unique Russian processor for?

For systems where big data is processed (big data) by neural network applications. These are transport, security, energy, as well as devices operating in severe climatic conditions (for example, in the Russian Arctic).
