When you have nuclear armed communist shithole that not only can't feed it's own population but it can't even police it's own streets things will get much worse in the aftermath before they get better

Russia is eternal cautionary tale: Stay off the red shit, you will be regretting it long and hard and more often than not you won't survive it unless by accident

Funny you say that because I remember chatting with a pro democracy Russian in the 1990s and he was scared.

He said the police during communism were corrupt and could be bribed, but they had a set of rules to enforce and could be trusted... with the fall of communism the mafia groups started taking over and they could do what they liked... no rules at all... not a good way to live...

He wanted back on that red shit it seems... so the cautionary tale of beware the reds is bullshit, but then ask any country the US and the west has ever tried to help with that... whether they like the order and structure of peace, or the chaos of war the west inflicted on them to save them from communism.

With investment and good trade relations with the west communism in China seems to work just fine... not suggesting communism is the solution but full blown democracy market forces bullshit is not the solution either... though the democracy the Russians seem to have is looking better and better... despite state ownership of critical sectors of the economy. If their MIC ever gets privatised then we can expect the defence budget will need to start climbing to the heights western defence budgets have achieved and things stop being about defence...

He was pretty clear... the police could steal from you but were not normally sadistic killers... you didn't worry about them taking your daughter or wife away for some one on one time if you know what I mean. After communism they weren't police... they were organised crime groups and they made up their own rules.

    No boundaries.

    Much more frightening.

Soviet cops did not engage in crime until the collapse period in 1988 and later. They did not shake you down on the road with spurious
traffic tickets. This is all the rot that came with the collapse of the system instigated from the top.

The cases I noted previously about food being diverted from the shops to forest dump sites was not organized by police but by
anonymous thugs. One can guess who they were working for.

The whole corrupt FSU cops is a feature of the "golden years" as claimed by Navalny and his patrons. The golden years of a
    gangster's paradise.

During the 1950 to early 1980s period the streets were very safe from both criminals and corrupt cops. By contrast the corruption
of cops and association with criminal groups has been a long standing feature of life in North America. That this appears to have
disappeared smells of a combination of mass media non-attention and more polished criminal activity.

I was there. They were working for the Berezovskys and Khodorkovskys of the world and their lesser kin. The people they were working for were sitting in London.

Russia’s Krasnodar region to increase new vineyards planting by over 10% in 2021

KRASNODAR, March 16. /TASS/. New vineyards planned for planting in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region in 2021 reaches 1,700 hectares, which is 200 hectares more than a year earlier, Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratyev said in an interview with TASS.

At the end of December, it was reported that in 2020 more than 1,500 hectares of young vineyards were planted. All in all, according to Vice Governor of the Krasnodar region Andrey Korobka, the region has the largest vineyard areas in Russia - about 27,000 hectares.

"The Krasnodar region accounts for a third of the country's vineyards, and we are gradually increasing the annual area of new plantings. In 2015, it was 1,200 hectares per year, now it reaches 1,700 hectares. The first 120 hectares were planted in Anapa, Novorossiysk, and Temryuk," Kondratyev said.

He noted that the majority of the new seedlings were grown in in the Krasnodar region. According to him, at the moment there are three such centers in the region, they produce 4.5 mln seedlings per year.

He also clarified that this year around 614 mln rubles ($8.42 mln) will be allocated from the regional budget to support winemaking. The funds will be used for new plantings and caring for vineyards.

Russia’s Krasnodar region is the country’s leading region in the development of viticulture and wine industry, with its wine products supplied to 20 countries. By 2024, the region plans to increase supplies to 445,000 decaliters. Over 20 agricultural producers in the region have licenses for manufacturing and retail sale of alcohol.

Essen Production's exports hit record highs in 2020

Essen Production AG in 2020 increased export sales by 19% in physical terms and by 32% in revenue compared to the previous year. According to preliminary data, the company's export revenue amounted to about 4.7 billion rubles. VAT included. Including shipments in the mayonnaise group increased by 12%, tomatoes - by 20%, spices - by 24%, sweet group - by 46%, sauces - by more than 70%. “In general, 2020 has passed well in terms of foreign economic activity. In spite of everything, this was our record year for the entire existence of the company, both in terms of tonnage and revenue, "said Nikolay Orlov, Commercial Director of Essen Production AG.

The growth was due to the emergence of new customers and the expansion of the geography of supplies. In the countries of the Middle East, the growth was 38%, in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Abkhazia and Georgia - 44%, in Latvia, Estonia, Greece, Norway, Germany, Italy - by 23.8%. Exports to China, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea showed a cumulative increase of 118%.

In China, the positive dynamics was provided by the supply of confectionery products, which increased from 1.5 thousand tons to 3 thousand tons. There was also an increase in the shipment of ketchups and jams to existing partners. Due to the pandemic, deliveries to China were not carried out in March-May, but resumed in June.

A lot of work was done to organize deliveries to China, which took more than one year. The company faced a number of peculiarities of doing business in this country. “First of all, the Chinese are ready to do business only with the Chinese, so we had to look for a local partner. In addition, it is very important for them that we respond quickly to their requests, otherwise they may perceive it negatively and refuse to cooperate, ”explains Orlov. Essen Production AG has found a partner who is deployed in the northern part of the country. He has stable financial support and distribution channels throughout China, therefore, according to Orlov, we can say that confectionery products are delivered throughout the country.

Sweets with a new recipe, unusual for the Russian market, have been developed especially for the Chinese market - they contain 30% less sugar than the usual Essen Production AG product, and the amount of milk has been increased. “The peculiarity of the Chinese diet is that they do not eat a lot of sugar, but they do eat a lot of dairy products,” says Orlov. “This was a special project, for which, in addition to the low sugar content, new tastes, types of packaging were developed, and the design of the packaging was updated”. In general, the company approaches the adaptation of the product to local requirements in terms of the possibility of improving the quality, Orlov adds. If, for example, grilled ketchup, in the opinion of the Germans, should be a little sharper, then these wishes are taken into account, but they can be applied not only to the “German” batch of the product: if this change has improved the taste and made it brighter, it goes into series.

This year, Essen Production plans to increase the export of sauces, ketchups and jams, as well as confectionery products. In particular, the supply of confectionery products to China is expected to increase by 10-12%. “We look forward to increasing the activity of our partners and lifting the restrictions set during the pandemic. The minimum plan that we set for ourselves for the grocery product is to grow by 5% in relation to 2020, in the confectionery business - by 20%".

The company is trying to expand its export supplies to all product categories it produces. Thus, the new products released last year - caramel and chocolate flavored toppings, tomato sauces and sesame mayonnaise, were positively accepted in most countries and have already been included in the permanent assortment.

At the same time, a certain category of products is sent to each country, Orlov draws attention. Most of the sauce group is supplied to European countries, the USA and Canada. “European cuisine is characterized by a developed culture of consumption of mayonnaise, tomato sauces and spices, which are widely represented on the shelves of local stores,” Orlov said. In the countries of the Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus, confectionery is in demand: these countries are characterized by large families in which the traditions of visiting, celebrating holidays, giving sweets, treating children and the older generation with sweets are preserved.

Essen Production AG JSC (TM Maheev, 35, CHO KO-TE, etc.) was founded in September 2001 in Tatarstan and today is one of the leading food manufacturers in Russia. The company's annual turnover in 2019 amounted to 23.26 billion rubles, and the share of exports exceeds 15% of total sales.

According to the Federal Customs Service, in 2020 Russia increased the export of sauces and products for their preparation by 7.5% to 139 thousand tons worth $ 166 million (+ 7.5%). Sales of confectionery products abroad increased in physical terms by 11% to 688 thousand tons, in monetary terms - by 3.6% to $ 1.4 billion, including the supply of chocolate confectionery products increased by 2.3% to 740 million dollars, flour - by 6.6% to 455 million dollars, sugary - by 2.1% to 181 million dollars. Export of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades increased by 48% to 26 thousand tons in the amount of 37 million dollars (+ 29%).

There is way too much sugar in commercial confectionery and baked goods. The Chinese market is doing everyone a service.

Parmesan will finally become Russian, by Oleg Sirota
    26.03.2021

Despite the hype on the Internet, Russia is successfully implementing the import substitution program. Milk production for six years of counter-sanctions increased by almost 25%. This is a record that even the Soviet Union did not have.

Sly Italians demand that sanctions be lifted from Parmesan. I was especially amused by a cunning move with a technical error: they say, this cheese is lactose-free, and therefore should not be included in the counter-sanction list.

For the uninitiated, any cheese that has been in the cellar for more than six weeks is practically lactose-free and can be eaten by most people with lactose intolerance. So here the Italian Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano, who announced this, is simply cunning. Why are they doing that? They understand that they are forever losing the Russian market and are trying to somehow return to it.

Despite the hype on the Internet, Russia is successfully implementing the import substitution program. Milk production for six years of counter-sanctions increased by almost 25 percent. This is a record that even the Soviet Union did not have. Import substitution for cheese is also going very well. On the whole, it has already been completely successful for farm cheeses (there are generally a boom of projects here), for mozzarella and burrata, for blue cheeses, and is now approaching a complete replacement for semi-hard cheeses.

For understanding: my dear Moscow region alone, which, according to the results of the first months of this year, came out on top in Russia in the production of cheese, launched more than 200 cheese dairies. From scratch! At the same time, we, the cheese makers of the Moscow Region, are not only engaged in development, but also actively look at the export markets.

The most difficult niche has not yet been taken from us - with parmesan. It is really difficult and long - you first need to build farms for a special diet for cows, then launch giant expensive cellars, and then lay cheese for several years. There is another problem here - the Parmesan production technology takes a long time to debug: I cooked the cheese, put it in the cellar, and in a couple of years you will find out where you went wrong. And you start over. We have this process going on - the first parmesan was tasty, but meaty, similar to Swiss sbrinz, and we corrected it. Debugging.

This is really the most difficult and expensive thing in milk processing, and indeed one of the most difficult processes in agriculture is its crown. This is, roughly, like the aircraft industry and the automotive industry.

We need another five to seven years to finally resolve the issue with Parmesan. A permit to import imported Parmesan will simply stop the investment and make the colossal investment necessary for this pointless. But after this period, we will not only produce it, but also start actively exporting it. We just need time. Nine women cannot give birth to one child in a month, about the same with Parmesan.

Diversifying domestic production of consumer goods including food is a good way to neutralize all the hate drivel from the 5th column
about how Russia not only does not make anything but can't make anything. Having Russian shops full of world class Russian goods
is better than any propaganda. In fact, it was the perennial problems with supply to the Soviet consumer market that was one of the
key levers of western propaganda to destroy the USSR. Russia is already well removed from this shortage and substandard quality
regime and it is defeating the 5th column because it leaves them squawking absurdities.

Now that they realise friendship with the west is simply not possible and not practical they will start to look elsewhere and the easiest way to deal and trade with elsewhere is to build up shipping capacity... civilian and military.

The Ministry of Agriculture began to select territories for putting agricultural land into circulation

The Ministry of Agriculture has begun the selection of regional projects for inclusion in the state program for involving agricultural land into circulation, said the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at a meeting of the Council on Agro-Industrial Complex and Environmental Management in the Federation Council.

He noted that the program has already been signed by the government, and its implementation and financing will begin next year. Within the framework of the state program, it is planned to put into circulation at least 13 million hectares of agricultural land in 10 years. This will require 754 billion rubles, of which about 539 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget.

Ministry of Agriculture: All conditions have been created for the successful development of the agro-industrial complex in 2021

Since the state program has a project-based approach, now the regions are sending their applications and justifications to the Ministry of Agriculture for including their territories in it. The Ministry of Agriculture is selecting projects, analyzing which lands will have the greatest return from being included in the state program.

According to the agency, there are now about 44 million hectares of unused farmland in Russia, 20 million hectares of which is arable land (used for sowing agricultural crops). As of January 2019, the total area of agricultural land in Russia is 382.5 million hectares, of which farmland (arable land, hayfields, pastures, fallow lands, land occupied by perennial plantations) is 197.7 million hectares. If we add here the land on which citizens grow potatoes and vegetables, fruit trees and berry fields in gardening, vegetable garden and dacha associations, as well as all land used for scientific purposes, then the area of agricultural land will increase to 222 million hectares, the department estimates.

Including through the introduction of new agricultural land, it is planned to develop the direction of the production of organic products. According to Dmitry Patrushev, the organic market is one of the fastest growing. Over the past 20 years, its volume has grown more than sevenfold and amounted to about $ 130 billion in 2020. Russia has every chance to take a leading position in this segment, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture believes.

Since the beginning of last year, the country has a law on organic products.

"Today, a certificate was presented for the use of the Organic mark, registered under the 100th number. To obtain the right to use such a mark, products must meet strict national standards. We certainly look forward to a further increase in the number of certified organic producers," the minister said.

Agriculture export from Russia to total $30 bln by end-2021, says minister

ST. PETERSBURG, June 3. /TASS/. Russia’s Agriculture Ministry expects agriculture exports from the country at around $30 bln by the end of this year, Minister Dmitry Patrushev told reporters on Thursday.

"Overall, we expect agriculture exports to total around $30 bln by the end of 2021, in line with the plans," he said.

The Agroexport federal center for development of agriculture exports under Russia’s Agriculture Ministry said earlier that agriculture exports from the country hit a record of $30.7 bln in 2020 compared to $25.6 bln in the previous year. More than 150 countries imported Russia’s agriculture products last year.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, organized by the Roscongress Foundation, is taking place on June 2-5. The topic of this year’s forum is "Together Again - Economy of New Reality". TASS is the information partner and the official photo hosting agency of SPIEF.

Not just caviar: discover the Russian sparkling wine that conquers the US.

Russian company Abrau-Durso is renewing its supplies to the US following a five year pause. It's the only Russian wine producer in the US market.

The Abrau-Durso grapes are grown in Russia's south, in the Krasnodar and Rostov regions.

Production is performed in a plant founded in 1870 by Russian emperor Alexander II near the Abrau lake.

In present times Abrau-Durso produces 40 million bottles a year. They're sold in 24 countries, including Germany, the UK, India and Japan.

In the US plans to sell the sparkling wines produced by the charmat method, as well as the classic sparkling wines produced with French technology.

Interbalt Fine Wine & Spirits acts in partnership with the Russian group in the US. "We deploy the widest array of consumers. We believe that our joint experience will allow us to compete successfully in the sparkling wine category with the French crémant, the Italian prosecco and the Spanish cava
within the same price range", stated Interbalt's founder Konstantin Jizder to Expert Russian magazine.

US demand for Russian caviar surges by 640%

Exports of Russian caviar saw a year-on-year increase of 12% in 2020, and have nearly doubled over the past five years, according to the latest data published by the Russian Agricultural Bank.

The strongest demand for Russian caviar was recorded in the US, which became a top-10 biggest consumer of the delicacy last year.

“Shipments to the US increased from a modest four tons recorded in 2016 to 28 tons in 2020, marking an enormous growth of 640%,” the bank’s analysts said.

Ukraine, which purchased 604 tons of caviar produced in Russia, topped the ratings, while Belarus became the second-biggest buyer, having imported 176 tons. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan imported 153 tons of Russian caviar, closing out the top three.

Demand from Moldova and Canada also demonstrated a significant year-over-year growth. In 2020, Moldova imported 64 tons, which was two and a half times more than the previous year, and Canada shipped 19 tons, marking an increase of more than 80%.

Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and China were also in the top-10 of the biggest importers of Russian caviar in 2020, even though shipments to China had declined by 65% to 15 tons, versus the 42 tons recorded in 2019.

Let's hope it's not black caviar. Sturgeon are one the gems of Russian fisheries and they are all(except the sterlet)functionally extinct in Russia due to overfishing. It's such a tragedy that the biggest bony fish in the world, the beluga is wiped out because we monkeys are obsessed with its eggs.

Speaking of fish, is there any development of aquaculture in Russia? Fish, on average are much more protein dense than land animals and their raising causes less CO2. I'd rather eat fish than liver, intestine, chicken skin, pork balls, chicken drumsticks, beef meat, etc.

Russia happens to have sparsely populated pristine coastline which could be used for salmon, sturgeon, arctic char, pollock, and cod farming, but for some reason I've heard of 0 investment into them.
