The fact that they call them fully multirole suggests significant changes to the mission computers and avionics which were fairly basic for ground attack on the original models.

New can mean newly upgraded or brand new.

I believe the fact they call the "new" aircraft multirole suggests they are the SMT's. The 9-12's appear to be all used up and there were very few 9.13's to begin with. The one squadron of 9.13S's apparently were the aircraft upgraded and sent to Armenia a year ago.

Re: MiG-29/ΜiG-35 Fulcrum: News
If it was actually new... ie a new airframe it would be a MiG-29M2.
SMTs are upgrades... if they were MiG-29S or MiG-29SMs then they could have been upgraded with SMT components but without the hump back (the T part... Toplivo = fuel).
That would mean they would have SMT components but would still be Ss or SMs.
When we get photos of them we will know... if they look like old model 29s then they are still Ss and/or SMs, but if they have the hump back they will be SMTs.
I agree it is very confusing.

Re: MiG-29/ΜiG-35 Fulcrum: News
Those 16 MiG-19SMT, which RuAF will receive in this year are practically new as they are made from unfinished frames in MiG factory and are not modernized existing RuAF MiGs. Additional MiG-29 fighters which will go to Armenia, will be repaired ones, what mean from existing RuAF stocks. We could only hope, they will get some upgrades to make them multirole fighters and replacing old radar with Zhuk-M would be a good step in that direction. This could also give capabilities to use new R-77-1 missiles.

A model is scheduled to be built for and handed over to the VSK for tests and evaluations this year.

Do you have any info about those 6, that were built last year for unknown customer? We still don't know, who will receive them.

Re: MiG-29/ΜiG-35 Fulcrum: News
Original article:
http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20160205/1370342560.html
I was just going to lament how it's all good that Belarus (which retired it's Su-27s a few year ago on cost grounds) and even Armenia (small country) are interested in buying Su-30SM, but i believed the cheaper MiG-35 would have been the right choice for these countres (not to mention giving RSK MiG the orders they badly need to remain at the forefront of fighter production and development) and indeed other smaller ex-USSR ones when they will want to revamp their air forces. I can understand Kazakhstan buying Su-30SM as it is a big country and Su-30s long range is required.
Hope this contract will bear fruit (very curious if it is Egypt or Algeria), it would be of course a major boost to RSK MiG and the MiG-35. Here's to a MiG-35 order for VKS soon too.

Re: MiG-29/ΜiG-35 Fulcrum: News
Nizhny Novgorod, February 5 -. RIA Novosti Russian Aircraft Corporation "MiG" expects to end this year with the Defense Ministry to sign a contract for the supply of MiG-35 fighters, told the deputy director general of the corporation Alexey Beskibalov.
He arrived in Nizhny Novgorod to participate in Friday's celebrations to mark the 84th anniversary of the formation aircraft building plant "Sokol".
As stated in August 2015 RIA Novosti CEO of RAC "MiG" Sergey Korotkov, signing a contract for the supply of Russian Ministry of Defense of the MiG-35 is expected in the first quarter of 2016, the corporation "MiG" (RAC "MiG") expects that the aircraft will be on Aerospace forces of the Russian Federation in 2018-2020 years.
"Last year in March signed a state contract on development activities (R & D) on the MiG-35 to conclude a series of contract with the start of delivery in 2017. At the moment (serial) contract is under negotiation, we expect its signing until the end of 2016 ... The plan we put that shipment of the first two aircraft is already within a serial contract until the end of 2017 ", - said Beskibalov.
As explained by the executive director of the aircraft plant "Sokol" Alexander Karezin, "OKRovsky contract is in progress." "A certain number of machines to be manufactured within OKRovskogo contract to confirm the terms of reference These machines will be made this year and in the beginning, maybe next year.", - He added. "Falcon" is a co-executor of this contract.

Thanks Goerge. I saw on Google, it seems that you are right.
Egypt has ordered 48 mig 35, why would they ordered more mig 29 (and not 35) ? (Maybe they will send their f-16 to reserve ?)
Or maybe they bought it for Syria ??

MiG-35 is the export version of MiG-29M/M2, its the same order, that of about ~ 50 fighters

But there were apparent problems with the older MiG-35.
MiG-35 now are supposed to be under newer equipment and modernized AESA radar. Even the MoD stated about last year about interest in MiG-35. So it is all just contract negotiation now and possibly testing of said equipment this year.

Re: MiG-29/ΜiG-35 Fulcrum: News
The MiG-35 was pretty much developed for the Indians... so when they chose the Rafale it took time to adapt the design to suit the Russian AF.
Now it seems they have finalised the design specifically for the RuAF and for an export customer and so they can now start producing them.
