The money talks head towards the cliff. A definite game of chicken going down here
AFP – 6 hours ago
Ukraine's finance minister visits the California grounds of Kiev's biggest creditor Wednesday for "make or break" negotiations aimed at keeping the cash-strapped former Soviet country from hurtling into default. Natalie Jaresko's talks with the Franklin Templeton investment giant in San Francisco come with Ukraine steadfastly refusing to make a $500 million (450 million euro) bond repayment that comes due on September 23. Kiev has warned that failure to strike a final restructuring agreement would leave it with insufficient time to coordinate similar deals with its other main lenders.
But sources close to the discussions said the US financial titan was willing to accept a write-down on the face value of its original investment of no more than 10 percent -- well short of the 40 percent figure originally proposed by Jaresko. "The 5-10% haircut (which also includes conditions) is unacceptable to the Ukrainian side and they are very much hoping for an improved offer closer to the situation Ukraine faces," another person close to the negotiations told AFP. "But time is running out," the source added. "There is a clause written into the September 23 repayment which states that any changes to the payment must be approved by the bondholders at least 21 days before the payment is due."
Franklin Templeton leads a pack of four major investment houses that hold about $8.9 billion of Ukraine's maturing debt.

A couple of items from Agence France-Presse
Ukraine vowed Tuesday to use all weapons at its disposal to withstand an alleged new pro-Russian rebel advance that added urgency to a goodwill visit by Britain's defence secretary. Kiev accused the eastern separatist fighters of launching another missile assault north of Mariupol -- a government-held port that provides a land bridge between rebel territories and the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula. "We will use our entire arsenal and all the means at our disposal to beat back the enemy's assault," Ukrainian military spokesman Vladyslav Seleznyov told AFP. "We cannot risk the lives of our soldiers," said the top Kiev army representative. "The rebels used to launch Grad missile attacks on a rare occasion. Now, it is an everyday occurence."
The militias accused Kiev's pro-Western forces of being responsible for the latest flareup along east Urkaine's 500-kilometre (300-mile) front.
Kiev (AFP) - Ukraine on Monday reported it had repelled a rare tank assault by pro-Russian rebels that threatened to shatter a shaky ceasefire and dangerously escalate the 16-month war in its breakaway east.
President Petro Poroshenko said "about 200 insurgents" had staged a pre-dawn raid on Novolaspa -- a village halfway between the separatists' de facto capital Donetsk and the Kiev-held southern port of Mariupol -- that caught government soldiers off-guard. Chief of Staff General Viktor Muzhenko "informed the president that the Ukrainian forces gave a fitting rebuff and repelled all the attacks," the presidency said.
But the defence ministry later reported the militants mounting a second attack on the same village whose outcome was not immediately clear. Local pro-Kiev officials told AFP that separatist fighters had also launched several waves of Grad missile attacks on the eastern outskirts of Mariupol itself. The Ukrainian foreign ministry called the clashes "a dangerous indication of a further escalation to come".
But the rebels said Kiev's claims made no sense because Novolaspa had always been one of their frontline outposts. "The armed forces of Ukraine simply put the village under a heavy shelling attack," a local separatist official told the rebels' main news site.

I have a feeling that F.T. isn't going to budge.
Today, Franklin Templeton Investments is one of the world's largest asset management groups with over US$844.7 billion in assets under management (AUM) on behalf of over 25 million private, professional and institutional investors, as at September 30, 2013, up $29.7 billion or 4% during the 4th quarter (FY 2013). wrote:

In addition, more than UAH 116.5 million were paid in assistance to participants in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) who were wounded and on disability.

KYIV, August 10 /Ukrinform/. Tsentrenergo PJSC has halted operations at Zmiyivska TPP and switched it into hold mode due to a lack of fuel - the stockpile of coal reached 803 tonnes.
The press service of Tsentrenergo PJSC reports.
"On August 10, Zmiyivska TPP stopped operating and was switched to hold mode due to a shortage of fuel - the remaining balance at the warehouse records 803 tonnes," a statement said.
According to the press service, delivery of train cars with coal for the Zmiyivska thermal power plants has been suspended because of the damaged railroad tracks on the Yasynuvata-Skotovate railroad section in the Donbas conflict zone that had been hit earlier.

According to the official numbers from UA (2.4K, and the exchange rate (20/21) , that's roughly 10K american per fallen soldier. This regards the Armed Forces (ergo those who depend from the MoD). For the MVD (Ministry of Interior), that's everyones guess. Is it a great number? 24 million USD for MoD deceased seems logical.
Roughly 6 million for the wounded, That's tricky. If the wounded get 1K USD, that's 6K WIA since last year. If 2K USD, then it's 3K WIA. We need benefit numbers for cross checking. If however this is for disabled alone, then we have a different issue. Disabled could range from 1K to 3K.
BTW: Ukraine going Full Retard.

And the a**holes inside Kyiv goverment blamed Russia again. Yes, everything is because of Putin.
And rather than address the Kharkov mob appropriately, Valentin Nalivaychenko, then-head of the Ukrainian Security Service, blamed the incident on – who else – Russia. "…Local gangs might have been provoked and inspired by the foreign special services," Nalivaychenko said on Shuster-Live. "To put it bluntly – by the Russians."

Hopefully this happens because it will make ordinary Ukrainians hate the junta more. The more they hate the better.

Couple of DPR press releases today following the comments out of Holland at the start of the week.
MOSCOW, August 12 /TASS/. No damage agents have been found at the Flight MH17 crash site in east Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said on Wednesday. "Our agency has taken an active part in the search operation ever since the Malaysian Boeing (on flight MH17) crashed over Torez. No damage agents have been found in the wreckage, let alone the traces of some concrete types of weapons," the Donetsk news agency quoted the Prosecutor General’s Office spokesman as saying. No Buk missile fragments found at MH17 crash site in Ukraine — DPR envoy
The Prosecutor General’s Office said that all the debris, fragments and personal belongings from the crash site had been registered in a manner prescribed by the law and handed over to Dutch investigators.
MOSCOW, August 12 /TASS/. Those who claim that fragments of the Buk anti-aircraft missile system have been found at the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crash site will be unable to present any evidence to prove their words, Denis Pushilin, the representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in the Contact Group for Ukraine settlement said on Wednesday. "I am absolutely sure that no evidence will follow these remarks. We have already heard the United States say that Ukraine has some evidence on the Boeing-777 crash but we have not seen it. It’s going to be the same this time," Pushilin said.
He added that attempts were being made to politicize the investigation. "The fact that they have not even collected the plane fragments properly is a source of my great concern. We can still see rather huge parts of the plane lying on the ground. We have urged them many times to come and take them away. Without them the investigation is going to be difficult," Pushilin explained adding that various political statements could be made to this effect. "We have seen attempts to create a tribunal, which was wrong a priori," he stressed.
Earlier on Wednesday, August 12, the Dutch Safety Board and the Dutch Prosecutor’s Office published a joint press release, which said that the investigators were scrutinizing the elements, which might be related to the BUK anti-aircraft missile system. At this stage, the experts have not confirmed the existence of a link between these elements and the Boeing crash.

04.08.2015 | 23:42
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have got a modern, level-two field hospital facility from the United States for use in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone in eastern Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian General Staff's press service.
The medical equipment arrived under bilateral agreements with the U.S. government on the support of Ukraine, the General Staff's press service wrote on Facebook.
The hospital facility is fully provided with medical equipment and medicines for first aid to soldiers with wounds of varying severity.

"This hospital works as an independent facility and is designed to function in a combat area of operations. Moreover, our foreign partners have undertaken to train our military personnel how to use this equipment. In addition, the U.S. side will supply all the necessary materials and medicines in the next 1.5 years to ensure the full-scale functioning of the hospital," the press service quoted adviser to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Maryna Mavlonova as saying.

Tho it has not been posted here I presume people are aware of this on cassad - "The DNR declared an alarm. All units are prepared for full scale offensive by ATO." etc etc http://cassad.net/vazhnoe/16232-v-dnr-obyavlena-boevaya-trevoga.html A little alarmist and I don't think it's popcorn time just yet. We remember what we saw on the roads last year and that which is not shown this year, for obvious reasons. No video, no documentary evidence, but last night the roads were creaking under the weight, and that is why I advised to get the popcorn.
