That will stir them up over the border. I'd say Russia is trying to push as hard as it can, like CAS for Kurds, to force an early reaction.zg18 wrote:Kurds started operation to take Azaz from Erdogan proxies.

They are definitely out for some turk blood, I give them that.
I noticed on some other forums that everyone is convinced that turks are some kind of military superpower. Su-24 ambush inflated that opinion even further. Like they could roll into Syria unopposed and take on VKS air group in Latakia.
1) Everyone ignores the fact that Su-24 was ambush from (at the time) "non-belligerent" entity.
2) Even if by some cosmic paradox turks with their whole military even partially successfully take on Latakia air group, those guys do not exist in vacuum, they are just tiny fraction of Russian Armed Forces. Those other guys will not sit on their asses.
How f*cking stupid people (FoxtrotAlpha, WarIsBoring, etc...) have to be to think that turks even stand a chance in this game? And that is without taking SAA, Kurds and rest of the crowd into account.

I also think this is main reason for the Kurds to start the operation for Azaz and it is also the main reason for the SAA to begin the Al-Raqqa operation, I don't think it is a coincidence that both operations started at the same time. I think Russia wants to see what kind of reaction they will get from NATO.

Agree, a possible pointer to a much bigger conflict will be if proper SAMs or even MANPADS start appearing.par far wrote:JohninMK wrote:That will stir them up over the border. Looking at some of the latest RuAF helicopter attacks there were no flares being fired.

It is better if SAA uses paratroopers more. With terrorists concentrated in Tal Rifaat, if they can parachute some men behind enemy lines, then do a pincer attack, the progress in Syria would be many times faster than the current pace and would match the Spanish civil war pace.

Oh, and where pray tell would the SAA materialise these magical paratroopers from? Their backsides?
You screw up an airborne assault and you lose a lot of men very quickly.

Para desants are extremly tricky to perform, also Syrians lack lifting cappacity for major paradrops. In most of the encounters though last century paratroopers mostly fought like common mechanised infantry anyways.

Turkish media reported that the missiles were invented in the Ottoman Empire
ANKARA, 10 Feb — RIA Novosti. The missiles and submarines were invented in the XVIII century in the Ottoman Empire, reported Tuesday by the Anadolu news Agency.
The Agency cites senior scientific officer of the British center for the study of Islamic culture Salim Igusa, according to which in the early periods of the Ottoman Empire surpassed European countries in the field of firearms, most of the big steps in this area were made in the years of the highest power of the state "Tulip era" (1718-1730).
"The first of these inventions was the creation of a submarine. Architect in the shipyard Ibrahim Agha called the submarine "Tajtelbaum". The second major invention was firearms and rockets, invented by gunner cannon Bayramoglu Ali Agha," said Agus.
However, according to him, over time, knowledge in this area have been lost.
Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Muslim sailors discovered America 300 years before Christopher Columbus.

The biggest threats to paratroopers is enemy air power and air defense. Neither of which rebels have. Had the US not used 101st airborne, WW2 would have taken decades rather than years to finish.

Numerous issues arise with large scale airborne operations - the troops need to carry light equipment, resupplying them is problematic and on the top of that, they tend to be scattered over a large area upon landing.
Large scale airborne operations were abandoned after WW2. Helicopter is so much better way to get troops behind enemy lines.

"Major powers agreed on Friday to implement a cessation of hostilities in Syria to expand delivery of humanitarian aid to people caught up in the conflict, officials said. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, speaking to reporters after a meeting in Munich that included Russia and more than a dozen other countries, said the target for implementing the nationwide cessation of fighting was a week's time. He said all participants had agreed that Syrian peace negotiations should resume in Geneva as soon as possible. He said the cessation would not apply to Islamic State and other militant groups fighting in Syria."

Since Kurds are the only moderate rebels, there will obviously be no end to the war in Syria. That is obviously obvious

Re: Syrian Civil War: News #6
"According to a source close to Al-Masdar, 25 soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have died inside Daraa governorate over the past weeks due to local swine flu outbreak. Especially the 121st Brigade of the 7th Division seems to be affected as the majority of deceased soldiers are from the Brigade HQ near Sanamayn city in northern Daraa. Upon the death of a Syrian soldier, usually their families are given benefits by the Syrian Government as to compensate the loss of their relative. However, because the soldiers’ death was caused by disease rather than war, they have not been designated as Killed in Action (KiA) or ‘martyrs’ and as such, their families will not receive the usual compensation. Furthermore, according to intel delivered to Al-Masdar News exclusively, the local Syrian Arab Army commander-in-chief in northern Daraa failed to bring in doctors as to treat the illness while controversially also sending them to fight on the frontline despite the critical condition of the soldiers.
According to a relative of a Syrian soldier who spoke to Al-Masdar News, he suddenly fell ill at ease and began to spit blood. Nevertheless, upon requesting a leave as to deal with his illness, he was declined by his superior. Two days later, he fainted on the frontline in southern Syria. After becoming unconscious, he was brought to Tishreen Hospital in Damascus. But sadly, he later died of internal injuries. Due to the Syrian war, many civilians, soldiers and fighters have been denied access to basic healthcare and as such, many somewhat harmless diseases have had deadly consequences. For now, it’s unknown how many Syrians have been infected by the swine influenza virus. However, an outbreak in southern Syria has now been confirmed."
Swine flu in Syria? Why do i have feeling its common flu but ppl are more sensitive due to bad hygiene and lack of food/medicine.

So, by this agreement, which groups will not be considered "militant"? Pretty much expecting that issue to be a huge bone of contention between GCC/NATO & 4+1, and will probably sink this thing quick.

Apparently only Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS (and ISIS factions) are not part of this agreement of ceasefire, attacks on them will continue as they were. Kurds and various FSA groups on one side and SAA, Hezbollah, NDF, Russia, UK, US, France on other. And yes this will sux big time as who da hell knows whats happening in the field, i expect alot of mess with Red Cross and other organisations, there might be attacks on their convoys and similar by ISIS mby even FSA groups that are aganist ceasefire (apparently many actually are).

Yes, glorious Putin administration kind of diplomacy. Basically forcing Syria to apply and admitting itself defeated, basically small capitulation.ultron wrote:Ceasefire in all of Syria begins in 1 week as agreed upon by Russia and the US. The war is over.
What strategic objectives have been accomplished? Nothing, even all of Latakia province is not liberated.
I bet US should of thought about ceasefires when they defeated Ghadaffi or Saddam. Russia under Putin is nothing that even resembles as great power or something that should be taken seriously, Ukraine and Syria are great proof of that.
I can't believe Assad and Iran accepted this. The turkish border is still open and new supplies and fighters will arrive.

You're being incredibly melodramatic. Politics is deception and you shouldn't take anything at face value. This is not a ceasefire, this is a cessation of hostilies -- a term that is a little more nebulous, so don't expect anything concrete to come out of this. These Islamists chimps are not exactly rational and so I expect them to try to claw back lost territory and momentum -- at which point the Russians and the Syrians could say that they tried to approach this diplomatically and that all diplomatic efforts have been exhausted, giving the Russians carte blanche to destroy these animals.

That´s the ideal situation besides if you check couple of posts before, this does not refer to islamic terrorists. Is there any list made? an dstill one week left...
I do not believe in any rules in West, besides one rule, rule of force. West has been trying to force Russia to submit for long time. and I guess Russian Leadership knows it by orders or magnitude better then anyone here does. We also do not know options and with objectives just guessing.
SO you are correct no need to dramatize, yet

It does not include Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State sworn affiliates.
